I would strongly advise people to prepare for Cory to be the Big Bad. If he isn't, then you will be pleasantly surprised instead of let down and disappointed. That's how I'm going into DAI.

I'm preparing, but that just seems to mean I'm dreading it.

I still think he's probably the secondary antagonist.

Considering he said that he would put up more footage if he can find some more that he is allowed to post, it seems he may have had permission. Plus, Angry Joe is hardly new to this game, he has been at it for a while and I would expect to know what is and isn't allowed.

I think Cory is the one who causes the breach to summon the "big bad" I do not think Cory is the big bad himself.

This has been my theory for a while. Why call someone the Elder one if you are basically going to reveal them early anyway.

Me too. I very much doubt the plot is going to be as straightforward as

Cory is the Big Evil, kill Cory, save the world, go home. Even Origins threw us a curveball with the Ultimate Sacrifice thing, and after DA2 I'm fully expecting Bioware to not make matters simple.

I figured that we just didn't KNOW it was cory yet, so everyone would mysteriously dub him as "The Elder One." Yet there Cory is, right in the beginning. I have a theory that the first time he actually reveals himself as The Elder One is sort of midgame I don´t know. But I wouldn´t exactly mind him being the big bad either, they have a whole game to flesh him out,besides he has a connection to Tevinter,The Wardens and Hawke. So I´m expecting him to be our main boss but the end of the game might reveal larger forces at work

With as careful as Bioware is being about minor story spoilers being shown in these preview vids they are letting people release, I seriously doubt they would make it that simple to figure who the overall bad guy is.  This individual is definitely in the game, but I am still not convinced he is the power behind everything.

that Corphyeus is in the game as a boss if not the Big Bad.  But I definitely agree that I am not 100% convinced that he is the overall big bad.  Part of this has to do with his back story, Dumat convinced him to go to the black city for some reason and I am just wondering if Dumat's motivation behind this deception ends up being crucial to the plot of DAI.  Honest I'd be fine with him being the big bad as he is over a thousand years old, very powerful, and likely will have had incredible influence in both Tevinter and over the Grey Wardens making him a realistic threat to Thedas as he can corrupt some of the more powerful factions in Thedas, especially with Orlais in disarray and the mage/templar civil war focusing attention of the other nations elsewhere.

--Corypheus breaking free is one of the only major, unresolved plot points coming out of Dragon Age 2.

The dragon ain't Corypheus, the artbook confirmed it to be his pet.  Either way I think it likely that he's Sarening to a big unknowable evil, likely Dumat.  But it's possible you're right and unlike half the people here I wouldn't mind that so much

He is a 'Herald of Dumat', or so he said. Unless BioWare wants to throw a 'twist' in the game, and have Dumat come back from the grave/never have been fully destroyed during The First Blight, then I just can't see him serve anyone else. Because, to be honest, I don't think Corypheus would serve anyone but an Old God.

Yes, Bioware isn't known to throw an identifiable villain at the start of the game only to reveal the greater evil at work pulling the strings. 

 

It's not like they did that with Revan in Koto - oh

Well at least they sure didn't pull that off in Jade Empire with - oh

You know, this might just be me, but I think the obvious big bad might not actually be the big bad after all AS CONVENIENT AS THAT MIGHT BE.

Remember back in DA2 there are a lot of hints about DAI plot even before the DLCs appeared but 1 major hint did appear in DA2...

Cory did mention back in Legacy that something called them to the Black City promising them the Golden City which lead to the corruption and the creation of the darkspawns. However, they believed it was Dumat that called them there but they never met the being who called them. This is a possible hint that the Elder One is most likely in the Black City or, from one of my theories, that the Black City was originally a Prison for the Elder One and he was released due to tricking the Magisters into going into the Black City thus starting a chain of events that finally lead to DAI.

I just don't think Corypheus is the Elder One.

 

First of all, he doesn't have a god complex. Sure, he thinks he's a hot shot being a magister, but he serves Dumat, he doesn't see himself as a god.

 

Second, I see people saying the voice of Cory and Elder One are the same, but I just don't hear it. EO's voice sounds deeper to me.

 

Third, while Cory was calling to the wardens while sleeping, I believe he did it unconciously, looking at his confused state when waking up. And we know that EO has been planning the breach for quite some time and I don't think Cory was capable of such planning.
