It's just something about the way she walks around, her facial gestures and everything.

She's one of those characters you hope you can Sparta kick off the hold.... and then revive using necromancy just to do it again.

Anyone else feel the same way ._.?

I don't suppose there's much point in having really strong feelings about a character we don't really know very well. I prefer to put aside any preconceived notions I'd have about a character based on some brief descriptions and reserve judgment for all the story content that character provides.

A good example of a character I felt got a lot of unfair hate was James Vega. Some jokers were going on about how he's catering to the CoD "dude-bro" crowd, as if the catsuit-wearing asari and terrorist organization operative were somehow on a whole different level. And despite the "problematic" design, he turned out a lot better and had more substance than he was given credit for. Maybe Vivienne will be a fascinating character.

A stereotypical what? All I find her is severely pretentious and obnoxious.

Stereotypical Orlesian.

That was unique.   :P

If such a bizarre and inexplicable set of circumstances where to occur, I'll make sure to tell you if hate kept me alive.  Or if it was the love of my husband and the overwhelming desire to see him again.  ;)

Clearly, you've never been beaten within an inch of your life by a Sasquatch...

Nah you'll most definately need to harness hatred in the above situation. Love won't stop the critters from preying on you, m'kay.

Different strokes for different folks.  'Sides, hate isn't enough either.  I think the primal animal fear of death and the basic will to live would trump all human emotion.  Combine that with logic and who needs love or hate?

Morrigan was a lot more presumptuous, arrogant and pretentious than Vivienne's ever been. Nonetheless nobody ever made a deal of any proportion out of it. I assume you hated her as well?

It's pretty common for a number of Bioware characters to be loved by some and disliked by others.

For example, I really liked Liara's character (at least in ME1 before she went all commando), but I'm not surprised some disliked her. Similarly, I didn't like Morrigan, but plenty of people did.

It's the characters people feel "meh" about that are the real problem.

I don't get why people call Viv sassy. She's not sassy. She's powerful and condescending and controlled. Sera is cheeky and sassy, from what we can tell. Viv's punches are more gently delivered, but with a much harder impact.

And she's amazing and perfect. I do share concerns about the "don't need anybody" aspect, but it's too early to tell there. I'm content to wait and admire.

Not that everyone has to love her, you're perfectly entitled to your bad opinions.

The bolded is how I see her as well. She seems like the kind of person who will insult you to your face, but you may not realize it until a day later... it's oddly attractive

For all the anti hate people, someday that hate might be the only thing that's keeping you alive.

Like say, if after being savagely beaten by a sasquatch until nearly every bone in your body is broken. It grows tired of playing hacky sack with your crippled form and leaves. With all of your might you try but can't move. Fortune smiles when you notice that the vertabrae above your clavicle is unscathed, and are lying face down too. Using your chin you inch back down the forest trail you traveled. During the crawl you'd normally experience blackouts from all the pain but your hatred is what's keeping you focused. To keep you going you recall not only the savage beating you suffered, but also your unfaithful spouse, meth addict sibling, cheap boss, bills, debt, and unfulfilled dreams. By harnessing all that hatred you repelled any and all predators, and miraculously sustained yourself during the 7km 36hr long crawl. Thanks to that very same hatred you made it to the evac copter and to safety.

Think about it?

You just described what happened to me a few months ago! Listen to this man, he speaks the truth.

I might have fundamental disagreements with Vivienne, considering my position on my mages (mage freedom all the way :P ), but I still think she'll be interesting and see no reason to boot her just because we have diametrically opposed positions*.

* Unless I were recruiting team members from Psycho-Pass 2, in which case Shimotsuki Mika would totally get booted from my team because...reasons! Actually, I'm kidding - I'd keep Mika on the team and then make her write up all the case files/reports. :P

Something about her rubs me the wrong way, from what little we've seen of her she seems all high and mighty.

However I am not too quick to judge.

Morrigan had a similar setup, she seemed cold and a bit mean, but uncovering her back story and character revealed a lot more to her and reasons behind why she acted how she did. She became my favorite character in DA:O next to Alistair.

My opinion of Vivienne is...I don't know her.

I like what I've seen so far but that may change over the course of the game.

Fenris annoyed the s*** out of me at first but I eventually grew to not mind him after accidentally ending up on the friendship path with him.

And that's why I love her and her magic Anna Wintour ways. Now, carry on with your preposterous amount of loathing toward a number of pixels and voice clips.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people hate her because she's black, a woman-of-color. Not only that, she's powerful, strong, has authority and influence, and doesn't look like she'll take any of their sh*t. Maybe they've never seen that many women-of-color characters in video games like that and it rubs them the wrong way because here's not another forgettable token character that they can dismiss or make submit to them.

And so they mask their racism behind the fact that she's "haughty" or whatever when what it might boil down to is that she makes them uncomfortable. And then they wish violence on a character they barely know, but of course, their reactions would be far less intense if it was some proud, condescending white man.

Just a theory.
