I wouldn't say I "hate" her. I don't know her character enough to hate her.

I'm still wary of Vivienne because of all the talk about ambition. I've known far too many people over the years who've let their unmitigated ambition twist them into backstabbers. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely", yeah. Everyone's heard that before. Of course, I'm probably exaggerating things.

 

Now... having actually seen her in game footage... I think she's a jerk, but a jerk who has a point; so she may grow on me yet. Doesn't mean I trust her, but at least I can respect her opinion.

Watching her video makes me like her. Although I would like to hear her with an Orlesian accent, she sounds very Ferelden from the trailer. I really liked her in her newest video though .

Even if she has a point, it's only somewhat. She's still only looking at this from one side of the argument. That heartless wench completely fails to even attempt to see things from the mages' perspective. There is fault on both sides here. The mages aren't spoiled children. They are the oppressed, unable to endure the treatment they are subjected to any longer, but lacking the proper education and experience to really know how best to handle the situation. What that **** fails to realize is that she is the privileged one with knowledge about how the world works that the others are all lacking! If she gave half a damn, she could be helping steer them in the right direction instead of pompously standing around judging them all as though she is somehow superior!!! So, yea. *&%^ Vivian!!

I don't get why people call Viv sassy. She's not sassy. She's powerful and condescending and controlled. Sera is cheeky and sassy, from what we can tell. Viv's punches are more gently delivered, but with a much harder impact.

And she's amazing and perfect. I do share concerns about the "don't need anybody" aspect, but it's too early to tell there. I'm content to wait and admire.

Not that everyone has to love her, you're perfectly entitled to your bad opinions.

 

Yeah. She's not sassy, she's a perfectly refined snarker. In  many ways Viv reminds me of the Oscar Wilde quote "A true gentleman is one who is never unintentionally rude" (albeit obviously gender flipped...)

If you don't want race cards being pulled then I'd ask people not to make threads such as these. It's simply motions followed through to their logical conclusion. The entire OP leaves very little to imagination. I'm saying this as a white person.

Where is that coming from?    I only dislike her because of her attitude and the heartlessness she has conveyed toward her own. She was always gonna be on my sh!t list though cause I can't stand snobs! None of the other characters, thus far, have managed to get under my skin the way she did. Also note that some actually like and defend her. It's not all hate. Who knows? I might even change my mind later. I started off hating Morrigan after all, and now I can't wait to see her in Inquisition.    Perhaps you shouldn't go around making base assumptions about why people feel a certain way about a character? Automatically crying racism, just because the person we dislike happens to be of a certain ethnicity actually makes you racist. Did you ever stop to consider that?

I think she's awesome. Clearly powerful, intelligent and sufficiently arrogant as to suggest an almost Machiavelli sentiment. That's a rare trait to find in a video game character. I've played enough JRPGs to develop a sincere and genuine disgust for the weak, diminutive female mage trope that just can't wander into so much as a goblin cave without falling over themselves in whiny incompetence. Generally, most of the other characters in DA:I I find a little bit dull, but Vivienne intruiges me...Now, if only I could romance her .

Actually despite my own opinion about her personality, I find her to be positively ravishing. Having her as a LI would have been the best.

Just because I dislike her personality is also not to say I dislike having a character like this present. The fact that so many people can dislike her so strongly with so little to go on is a true testament to the genius of the Bioware writers. I think I'ma love to hate her. Ya know?

I find it difficult to hate anyone in real life, let alone a video game character. Even the ones I hate, I have to admit were written well.  I can't imagine people would have this strong a reaction to a character we've seen ...30 seconds of out of a game that will last for hours.  I'm willing to wait and see what Bioware does with her.  Right now, she seems pretty interesting to me.

I don't really have a thing for Vivienne, but I can say that I have crushed on her VA for years.  

 

I can't say I hate someone I don't know.  This is why I've been largely avoiding the game trailers and most of the snippets about the companions.  It's far too easy to let those views color my opinion before the game comes out.  I'd rather go in with as fresh eyes as possible and decide for myself.

 

I have never hated a BioWare party member.  The only one that I really disliked was Oghren, but that was more due to the way his story was handled in Awakening.  Besides, I could be missing out on something great.  When I first heard about Morrigan, I thought I was going to despise her.  She ended up becoming my favorite friendship arc in DA:O.

 

Vivienne, while certainly different, has much of the same sort of caustic/self-serving/prideful first impression on me as Morrigan did.  And that's great, actually.  It makes me want to play the game and get to know her first.  Maybe my instincts will be right, and I won't like her.  Given that this is a BioWare game, I'll probably at least find her interesting.  And I know I'll never truly hate her.

No hate here, but she leaves me cold. Dorian just seems so much more interesting to talk to and have in the party. I'll take her along eventually.
