What have we learnt about Gamer-Gate

Regarding:

Video Games

Video Gamers

Video Game Journalists

Video Game Publishers and Developers

The relationship between reviewers and the video game industry.

Social Justice groups

Bigotry in gaming

and pretty much any other relevant issue.

The problem with the second question is you can't drop everyone who supports the movement into that just because some immature people do that. That's why people who damn someone who supports he movement right away is in the  wrong.

Of course they get locked, devs don't want people talking about how corrupt the industry is these days and the lack of integrity that many companies, developers and journalist have.

The Quin incident and how companies tired to cover it up and ban the topic just shows how far the industry has fallen.

I learned that as a male I'm expected to either shoot up a school or sexually assualt a woman because the toxic masculinity created by rape culture has taught me to. I can't help it. I'm a man in today's society.

So many interesting and meaty topics to discuss.

Possible corruption between video game journalists and publishers

The way the media views gamers

Feminism and social justice

Bigotry

etc...

Nope? Not having this discussion? :crying:

I feel so tempted to waste 30 minutes and type out a tl;dr.

But the truth is that I learned I was actually white, and a rapist, as a result of gamergate.

Well, I've read a fair number of posts on The Escapist's Gamergate thread, and I was shocked by how accepting they were of ideas like "The Fappening was a false flag attack by feminists to discredit 4chan!" and various other conspiracy theories. Reminded me of the fact that half of a population will have below average intelligence.

What do you think this "Gamer-gate" is really about?

Corruption in the video game industry?

Or about how deep our bigotry of women and minorities has become?

Because every feminist I've spoken to tells me that it's the latter and not the former.

How did an issue about corruption become about bigotry most specifically misogyny?

I wasn't going to dignify this thread by posting to it. But here's a video of some real women warriors. I used to be one of these.

I have learned that I hate the majority of humanity.

And that GamerGate threads last maybe a week.

And that; Actually, this was about ethics in videogame journalism.

It is a rather complex, multi-faceted issue, driven by several competing trains of thought and leading to heated arguments.

Which is why this topic will always be locked.

I will say though, that I've been considered a literal subhuman for my thoughts on the matter. A minority coming from an immigrant family considered subhuman by a wealthy, straight white male for not believing in 'equality'. Irony is not often lost on people in this debate.

It's a fight club reference if you didn't get it. :D

Seriously though, Well, To some extent, Anita is right. But feminism isn't really about equality. And i do agree that society views gamers as some kind of angry nerds. Which is remarkably dumb. I haven't really paid much attention to the whole issue of GamerGate vs Anita to judge it more thoroughly.

I've learned that many people, myself included are far too guilty in getting caught up in a certain kind of group mentality that doesn't end up helping anyone or result in any real discussion. And that many of the people who actually have something to say get ignored in favor of pointless bashing. That people will jump to defend their identities without actually taking time to really learn both sides of what we're talking about.

Well.

- It showed how worthless and corrupt "gaming journalism" is but anybody who was paying attention during the last decade could have noticed that.

- Lots of people complained about "muh-soggy-knee" but they should really go elsewhere with their medical problems.

- Anita Sarkisscamer took more money from foolish people.

- 4chan is sold out in what was the greatest betrayal since that one time a bunch of jerks decided to stab Julius Caesar to death on the senate floor.

- Neckbeards prove that they cannot be defeated, for they are legion.

- It never ends this ****.
