So, I really, really want to play a Qunari. Some of you may even remember the thread I made on the subject way back too. And given that a huge plot element concerns the mages, I thought being a mage would be great too (knight enchanter ftw), given that it would probably have a big impact somewhere down the line, in the story.
However, most of the time I'm a sword and board warrior, as I don't like being confined to the back, just shooting off attacks. To top it off, humans will probably be the most accessible, to see the differences later on via other playthroughs, but considering one playthrough might be over 100 hours and I might need a break after, for you know... work, what should I do?!
Is anyone else having this dilemma?

I'm not sure what you mean by "humans will probably be the most accessible". That said, I'm not conflicted at all. Will be rolling Dwarf(ok I'm a little conflicted, not sold on rogue or warrior yet).

It's been a long day. What I mean is, people will have the easiest time talking to them, given the stigma of the other races. Sure dalish elves might hate/distrust them, but I'm questioning how important having them on our side will be, if they're just roaming, disjointed clans.

I was planning on being a mage up until today when i saw angry joes archery playthrough video and now i'm 100% sold on a rogue archer human female (cuz i want that extra skill point) at least for the first time though. plus i figure tempest can be a good balance with all the magic stuff i wanted to do

OH, you mean the interactions you will get. Ya, I dunno. I actually like negative reactions for the race I pick, conflict and tension is always fun. I rarely play humans in any game where anything else is an option so I'm probably bad at addressing that point.

Yeah, the archer looks like it would be an amazing class to play too. I know it's cliche, but I'd probably roll one were I to make a dalish elf.
I just wanted to do something different, given that my canon Warden is already a City Elf, and Hawke is obviously a human no matter what; barring my modded playthrough, where again I played an elf. xD

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why the idea of rolling a human appeals to me, because that way I could spot the differences in my following playthroughs. But then that leaves me wondering when the next time will be that I can actually sit down and play another playthrough, given how busy things have been for me lately.
It took me forever until I managed to actually play Origins again, and to give a rough estimate of when that was, all the DLC was already out.

Ya origin's was sometimes rough to get through with multiple play sessions. My work is pretty hectic, but I've always been fine with small play sessions, during a busy week.

I admit I'm also a bit indecisive right now.
I'm probably going to end up making three characters (Human Male 2H Warrior, Elven Female Mage, Dwarven Male or Female Archer Rogue) and I'll probably just bounce between them whenever I want to try something else out for a few hours.

I tried a few times before I went through all of it again, but for some reason I would always get stuck and stop somewhere just after Ostagar before restarting.
And yeah, that's what I'm doing right now with Legend of Grimrock 2. Just playing it sporadically. But with something like DA:I, I'd like to give it the attention I want to believe it deserves. And so far with everything I've been hearing, it should do just that.

How? I couldn't even keep my attention on more then one character in Destiny. xD

Ya, I'm right there with ya. I do that a lot with origins as well. I loved the game, but it has always been harder for me to make it past ostagar with multiple play-through's, if I cant just sit down and play through longer sessions. I was able to do it fairly easy with DA2, seemed the game allowed this more. Odd, now that I think about it, maybe it was the combat in DA2, it was a bit more enjoyable to me.

I think it might have been that it kind of slowed down. Everything was kind of tense leading up to the battle of Ostagar, and then it just kinda... stopped. But you might be on to something with the combat. It was a lot more fast paced in DA2, but I'm extremely glad they've found a balance between the two, because DA2's combat was just too much, if that makes sense. It didn't help that the mobs just kept coming and every battle thereafter became a chore.

Ya, qunari will probably be my 2nd run though. I just cant help it with Dwarves. Favorite race in just about any fantasy(or scifi/cyberpunk setting) setting.

Oh ya, I agree. DA2's speed up looked weird with the animations and such, almost like a 1.5x speed, was odd. And ya, the pacing with DAO probably has a bit to do with it as well.

Yeah, dwarves are awesome. My warden was female casteless rogue dwarf actually. Just gotta pick whatever's gonna stir up the most trouble. ![]()

After a while (10 hours or so) I usually settle into one of the playthroughs and finish that one, then I pick up the other ones later.

Makes sense. I guess personally, I just find that if it's been too long, I'd rather just start again.

Female Qunari Rift Mage for me.
As for which race I like, well, it was Human Noble in Origins. Elf was second with Human Mage. Dwarf never got past Ostagar. I simply can't stand the Dwarves in DA.
MAYBE i'll give them another try in Inquisition.
In about a year or 2.
Maybe.

Ha, my DAO transfer warden is a castless Dwarf as well, felt like it fit being a warden better, specially when it came to the expansion(a lot less to go home too, so staying on as commander made sense).

I'm doing a dice roll for my first character - 2 D20 die for race and class and a coin flip for gender. You can divvy up classes into 4 categories each if you count rogue twice (once for archer and once for daggers).
...have to re-roll if you end up with a Dwarven mage though.

I'd have to reroll if I got Dwarven at all. ![]()

Make multiple characters and play the opening with them and see what feels right.

Check out Lady Ashe's racism video. I was already planning a FQW for playthrough 1, but her talk about the reactions and how you can respond confirmed it for me.
