From the point 10 of Origin's Terms of sale

5 days before the launch date

Huh, it actually says so there? I guess you should always read the small print. :D

I ordered the deluxe over the summer. It was my first Origin order and I'd always dealt with Steam. When you pre-order on Steam you are charged straight away so I was baffled when Origin did not.

I called and got a rep who told me pre-orders on credit cards are not charged till the game is available. Which begs the question: what is a pre-order for then?

So the next question is - what does "available" mean exactly - the release date, or the pre-load date ? My Inquisition shows up in my library, grayed out, with "Coming Soon" in the Info box and in the Order History ist "Processing".

But my PayPal tells me that the Transaction is already completed, and my Bank account was charged.

Ok to clarify here is the complete paragraph about pre-orders in the point 10 (Performance of the Contract)  of the Origin's Terms of sale:

"In some cases, we may give you the opportunity to pre-order and/or purchase certain EA Content prior to its scheduled release date.  On the release date of the applicable EA Content, that EA Content will be made available for you to download and/or access.  When you pre-order and/or purchase EA Content prior to the release date, you authorise EA to automatically charge the price indicated on the applicable EA Website or EA Game, plus all applicable sales and/or use taxes, GST or VAT (as described in Section 4 above), to your Payment Method without further action by you.  For pre-orders, EA will charge your Payment Method either (1) as soon as you have completed the purchase process set out in Section 5 and received our purchase confirmation email, or (2) up to 5 days prior to the release date (we will confirm the payment with a confirmation email), depending on the Payment Method you have selected for the transaction.  Pre-orders for EA Content may be cancelled up until the release date, and any amounts paid will be refunded.  Please note, in certain cases, when you purchase EA Content prior to the release date, a portion of the EA Content software may be immediately downloaded onto your computer or device; upon the release date, your computer or device will automatically download the remaining portion of the EA Content software that is needed for you to install and use that EA Content."

Paypal orders are charged immediately. You won't be changed again and the order history likely says that because the game isn't available yet. It'll likely simply switch to "Complete" once Pre-load or release happens.

I'm exactly like you. Paid and charged in advance by Paypal, and the game still says "coming soon" . Do you have the regular version pre ordered just like me? it seems that only the digital deluxe versions are getting the release and preload dates.

I'm in the same boat and when I spoke to a EA rep, I was informed that my credit card would be charged when the game came out. So no need to worry until then.

Pre-order: You are stating you will pay full price when the game is available.

Pre-purchase: You are paying full price for the game ahead of time.

Pre-orders really only made sense more so for physical copies and purchasing games at vendors such as Gamestop. It makes less sense when products are digitally distributed, but it's more of a convenience and promotional mechanism now.
