@Entropic Angel - The interesting thing about Sherlock is that while he uses sound logic - including sound logical leaps - he does not actually use deductive reasoning but rather abductive reasoning which requires some assumptions. He uses the best probabilities given to him, but that's likely to be imperfect at some point. It's just frustrating that it never is.

Though, to my view, Hawke is no Sherlock Holmes. I don't see how she/he has enough to even go on. My headcanon was always that CLEARLY every item found has an engraving with the owners name, home address, and most common locations.

Actually for a number of the items it does point out an owner's name somewhere on it. But that still doesn't tell where the person would be.

I just do those quests and headcanon that it didn't happen.

Any game is a big fetch quest, you have to get from point A and gather all these resources / weapons / sexy times to point B so that you are strong enough to beat the big bad.

Minor fetch quests in a RPG isn't any different than getting to the final battle. This argument is really pointless. An RPG is basically a giant fetch quest, the important question you should look at is how the minor fetch quests fit into the story and how it affects the story. Getting the food and blankets to help the survivors -> increases your reputation.

RPG element -> Saviour type of character > All the fetch quests. Evil type > Hope you all die of starvation, I have better things to do.

Depends how you look at it and how deep you want to role play. Personally, I love fetch quests, I like exploring, I like hearing the extra dialogue, I like to see where it takes me. They put a lot of work into this game and I'm going to see all of it, even if it takes me 10 hours to get out of the starter zone.

It wouldn't be an RPG without Fed-Ex quests :P
