It is a restrictive "demo" that can only be played during a certain window. I don't imagine you would be able to play the game outside of the time frame given to you by Microsoft.

Maybe they have made a thing that cuts your play at 6 hours exactly, but I think it is more likely that is is a time window of six hours to play the game. Not very convincing for anyone outside of NA to subscribe to EA Access. Or maybe EA Access should be more clear with how the six hours will play out when you are in the "demo".

"Maybe they have made a thing that cuts your play at 6 hours exactly", is exactly what it is. Your "more likely" scenario is the unlikeliest thing I've seen today. Granted, the day is young, but it's a contender.

Am I a little annoyed that the early access is only on a platform I don't own? Yeah, a little bit, but it's an EA program that's frankly pretty good value for the money, considering the amount of games it gives access to. And Sony was offered it too and declined, so that's not EA's fault. Would like to see it on Origin too, though.

Look dude, I am PC player from Slovakia - the little hell hole in Europe, I can´t get to Deluxe edition like the most of Europe, I could buy a standard edition which is in retail only for 40 euros, but I did buy last few games with the additional content at day of release. So the point is that I will not get to DE in no other way than through the Origin, where I have to over pay 70 euros which is even far beyound the cost of retail DE for consoles in my region, hilarious isn´t it ? Yet, I will not benefit from this high-priced product in any other way... short story ? EA is still crying about how people dislike the Origin, and that how missunderstood they feel, yet they do very little to redeem themselves.

I am still kind a conflicted if I should do the pre-order with Origin or retail, I did cancelled already once...

Doesn't really bother me. I;d rather just wait for the full game to come out so I can take my time instead of having to stress about having a time limit on my playing.

No, not particularly bothered. As others have said, Sony were offered EA Access too but turned it down. Also, PC players who buy the game from Origin have a 24 hour window to return the game and get their money back if they don't like it, so that's kind of a demo.

It does make me wish a little bit that I had an XBone, but that will pass on release day :)

Honestly don't care it's just 6 hours so it's not that big of a deal.

I work the entire week anyways so I doubt I can actually play the game till Friday evening.

More on the issue though Sony rejected the EA access deal and I tend to agree with them since if every publisher would charge you separately for their online content it's going to be pure madness. Hope one day Sony will convince EA to make their games available through the PS Now.

What I dont understand is why they wouldnt offer EA early access on Origin where you can download the game and play the first 6 hours however you like, with areas other than the prologue and Hinterlands being locked. This way everyone could spend their time to create their character, watch the prologue and start the game. Then when the 6 hour period is over - the game is locked again until release.

EA gets their money, customers get some early playtime - everyone is happy. I dont see who would lose anything on this.

I could well be talking out of my arse here, but could it be a datamining/piracy issue? If people effectively had the entire game on the PC only locked, would it not make it more likely that we would be flooded with end-game spoilers before the official release? Otherwise I agree, I'd love to see EA Access on Origin, I'd sign up right now.

Doesn't bother me any.   Not sure I could even create the character I want in 6 hours.   Besides, how is it going to feel when that 6 hours are up right in the middle of the prologue and THEN you have to wait...

Nope.   Would just prefer to have the game and be able to play it fully.

I agree with op.
EA are showing favouritism for some users and not for all.
I want to play the demo and i cannot do that.

EA access is not under NDA terms, the vid can be posted on youtube (the full 6 hours) once DA:I is public on EA Access anyone with any xbox one and EA access sub can grab the game (No need for xbox live gold account) although if video is going to be monetized for $$ then it needs permissionrequests@ea.com. Also review embargo gets lifted when EA Access for DA:I is live

I've never played a demo that let me wander around a massive portion of the game and do whatever I wanted for 6 hours, nor did any demo allow me to import my save and carry on from that point upon release. They list it as a trial, and for the majority of the people who subscribe to EAA, they do so to play the games in the Vault for a monthly fee instead of buying those games (like Netflix for EA games). The early access stuff is just seen as a side benefit and not the main reason for a subscription.

Kingdoms of Amalur did. Once you finished the tutorial section you were free to wander the entire game world, if for one hour. And it was completely free, too. Know what they called it? A demo.

This is a demo, just as it was for Amalur. That it is hidden behind a paygate is... disappointing.

PC gamer here. Not a demo, part of a promotion for a new service, not unethical, doesn't bother me.

I'm more disappointed in the fact that their Early Access is only for Xbone. This feels like a HUGE slap in the face to the avid fans of the DA universe that don't play on the Xbone. I have been playing since 2009 and I only play on the PC, because I like having all my spells/attacks right there to use instead of having to constantly switch around spells during a fight. I couldn't do it (I had tried on the PS3 for DAO). So those that are not on an Xbone get jack?
I've had the Digital Deluxe Edition on pre-order on Origins since it became available.I would have been simply happy with access into the Character Creator. I would love to get acquainted with this new CC with all the great possibilities

But oh-well. Will just have to brood. I may have Fenris come help me with that...

Actually, EA made the offer to Sony as well and they turned it down.

Sony was offered EA Access and turned it down, so not really EA's fault it's not on both consoles (and I say this as someone who favors the PS4). As to PC, I imagine it's a piracy issue they feel can't be adequately program-locked through Origin. Are there any services like PSNow/EA Access on PC? Remember, the demo is just part of a larger service where you can play 4-6 EA games for free at any given time.

But EA Access isn't really "a DA demo machine" (that may be all I ever use it for, and I bought the game for PS4 but purchased EA Access on my XB1 just to essentially mess around with the character creator) - it's an actual service, like Netflix for certain EA Games, that also has promotions of new games released for free trial periods AND offers discounts on EA games.

It doesn't really bother me because I would have waited to play the game until it was released anyway, so it really doesn't make a difference to me.

To be fair, Sony actually said no, and even if EA access was available to me on my platforms, PS4 and PC, I still wouldn't pay for it.

If Sony had accepted EA Access we'd be paying for both PS+ and EA Access for all our content.

That does not sound like a wise marketing decision...

For Sony at least.

I stopped paying attention to Sony when PS+ became a thing so I have no idea how they're handling it for the PS4.
