I hate that these companies are going around making these deals with Microsoft to prevent half the player base from gaining access to a game in a timely manner. Its becoming a growing trend in the gaming industry that reminds me of dirty backroom politics.
While I can understand the frustration, calling Microsoft out as the "big bad wolf" is hardly accurate. If anyone should be accused of timed exclusives and secret deals, it should be Sony.
Remember that one year timed exclusive strike content for Destiny only on PS4/PS3? Remember that permanent exclusive content and extra story missions only for PS4/PS3? I'm actually surprised Microsoft has been so slow to the race to even compete. Sony has been doing this nonsense for far longer and it's purely to promote their platform and make more money. It's working quite well as PS4 is vastly outselling the Xbox One partially because it's cheaper and Sony has just made a better effort to get game content. We'll see if Sony stays dominate with the temporary price cut of the Xbox One down to $350 and the release of the Halo MCC.
As far as the reality, EA did actually offer this deal to Sony. For once, Sony actually turned them down, as they didn't see the benefit financially as it was more of a promotion for EA. As far as PC? While EA is certainly trying to promote more PC gamers to use Origin, PC is still by far a minority and likely would produce minor results at this point for EA.
It doesn't really matter to me personally. It would be one thing if EA Access was allowing players to play the game five days early with no limits. Instead, it's just allowing players to spend up to six hours in the game and then they'd be forced to purchase the game at launch. I'd hardly consider paying $5 a month for six hours pre-launch a sweet deal.
Also, for those saying this is not a demo. Yes, in the traditional sense it is not a "demo" as it's not a standalone product built specifically to promote the game. However, this is a demo in the sense that you haven't actually purchased DAI and you have essentially a free trial up to a certain amount of time. EA Access is nothing more than a tease meant to reel people in who are desperate to play a game via money. I'm sure EA must be making a killing, even if it's only available on Xbox One at this point.
Final thoughts, it should be added that there is a 10% discount. This is somewhat illusory because you are paying a monthly subscription to even get the discount to begin with, which really means there is no discount. In comparison to PC, most games are always $10 cheaper than console due to lack of licensing fees. I can also generally get 25% off any new title before it even releases on PC. I think I'll stick to my deals rather than the one EA is supposedly offering people.
