I think it amusing:

Should we be annoyed that only those on Xbox one get access to a "demo"...or annoyed on their behalf for them having to pay for a subscription service offering them a demo of a game they've already ordered?

In the end, it's just silly promotional stuff, it can't be a demo of the game, since you've already ordered it. It's just...I don't know, an appetizer?

Silly, but I'm sure they appreciate getting something out of paying for EA access.

I also appreciate the 10% off they gave me for this game, when I ordered the game which was a pleasant surprise, since I ordered it digitally.

I'm just bummed that it's XBONE only and not for 360.  I have just come to terms that I'm not going to be able to upgrade to next gen in time for DA: I and will have to play it on 360.  Now, that decision also means that I don't get early access.  Salt in the wound.

I don't dislike that it's EA Access only.  I hate the fact that EA Access is only available on the Xbox One.

There is no valid reason that it's not offered through Origin for PC players.  Sony and Microsoft can have their little lovers spat over what console is better on their own time, it shouldn't effect those of us that are above their petty ****.

I hate that these companies are going around making these deals with Microsoft to prevent half the player base from gaining access to a game in a timely manner. Its becoming a growing trend in the gaming industry that reminds me of dirty backroom politics.

Windows might be made by Microsoft, but the PC isn't involved in their little war with Sony.  Or else we'd have EA Access, and we wouldn't be getting DLC at a delayed pace.

I think this is a terrible idea, someone will hack it for sure and play the full game for as long as they want. EA still thinking we live in a perfect world after the SimCity offline mods...

While I can understand the frustration, calling Microsoft out as the "big bad wolf" is hardly accurate. If anyone should be accused of timed exclusives and secret deals, it should be Sony.

Remember that one year timed exclusive strike content for Destiny only on PS4/PS3? Remember that permanent exclusive content and extra story missions only for PS4/PS3? I'm actually surprised Microsoft has been so slow to the race to even compete. Sony has been doing this nonsense for far longer and it's purely to promote their platform and make more money. It's working quite well as PS4 is vastly outselling the Xbox One partially because it's cheaper and Sony has just made a better effort to get game content. We'll see if Sony stays dominate with the temporary price cut of the Xbox One down to $350 and the release of the Halo MCC.

As far as the reality, EA did actually offer this deal to Sony. For once, Sony actually turned them down, as they didn't see the benefit financially as it was more of a promotion for EA. As far as PC?  While EA is certainly trying to promote more PC gamers to use Origin, PC is still by far a minority and likely would produce minor results at this point for EA.

It doesn't really matter to me personally. It would be one thing if EA Access was allowing players to play the game five days early with no limits. Instead, it's just allowing players to spend up to six hours in the game and then they'd be forced to purchase the game at launch. I'd hardly consider paying $5 a month for six hours pre-launch a sweet deal.

Also, for those saying this is not a demo. Yes, in the traditional sense it is not a "demo" as it's not a standalone product built specifically to promote the game. However, this is a demo in the sense that you haven't actually purchased DAI and you have essentially a free trial up to a certain amount of time. EA Access is nothing more than a tease meant to reel people in who are desperate to play a game via money. I'm sure EA must be making a killing, even if it's only available on Xbox One at this point.

Final thoughts, it should be added that there is a 10% discount. This is somewhat illusory because you are paying a monthly subscription to even get the discount to begin with, which really means there is no discount. In comparison to PC, most games are always $10 cheaper than console due to lack of licensing fees. I can also generally get 25% off any new title before it even releases on PC. I think I'll stick to my deals rather than the one EA is supposedly offering people.

To be honest, I'm only really frustrated about the upcoming Tomb Raider game being a timed exclusive for the the Xbox One for who knows how long. The only reason I didn't mention Sony is because I have a PS4 and if I don't have double standards, then I don't have anything at all. ;)

I really think the whole timed exclusive and console exclusive thing needs to stop and everyone should have equal access to all games without having to buy a separate console just to play their favorite games.

this is funny as EA is piggy backing off the most secure gaming network for this feature from the 5 games offered with EAA early access none have been data mined or hacked to extend the trials.  Its locked through the network not the game files themselves so if you can hack Microsoft's servers have fun extending it.

You do realize that Sony generally has more exclusives or timed-exclusive deals that Microsoft does? Right? The only reason Sony didn't go ahead with this deal is because they wouldn't actually benefit from having it. They are already outselling the Xbox One by large margins and have essentially taken a large portion of Microsoft's player base. Sony gains nothing by paying EA money for EA to almost exclusively benefit.

I don't think the pricecut is going to boost sales that much. Maybe a bit, but it's still $350. It's the release of Halo you mentioned that's going to make Xbox sales skyrocket.

It always does.

So...doesn't that mean that Sony has savvy business sense and Microsoft just got tricked by EA? Perhaps Sony will finally bring an end to the console war, at least until the new Legend of Zelda is released and everyone remembers that the Wii U exists.

Fair enough. While I agree that for the purposes of gaming, exclusives and timed exclusives are bad for gamers. On the other hand, if Sony and Microsoft didn't try to differentiate their products, then what would be the point of buying one over the other? These nefarious tactics are necessary from a business standpoint.

This used to be less of an issue two generations ago as Sony generally only had Japanese-made games and Xbox only had Western-made games. Since the last generation, competition has heated up and both have tried to obtain as much high-quality software as they can, leading to multi-platform gaming becoming the new dominant thing.

It essentially has come full circle as most of the games both platforms offer are multi-platform. The only way to differentiate themselves like they used to be is through either exclusive titles or timed exclusives and DLC. It's an unfortunate consequence of two consoles that share more in common than they differ. At this point, Sony just has more exclusives and has been cheaper, so it's winning the battle. I have a feeling this will change significantly once Microsoft lowers the price of the Xbox One to be competitive and releases Halo MCC and Halo 5: Guardians. Halo is the one thing Sony doesn't have and that will be a major advantage to Microsoft.

Either way, EA Access is just five days early access for people to have a trial of a game they essentially already paid for partially. It's more or less a paid beta access. I don't really see the benefit or gain, as people are just paying to play the game slightly earlier. There isn't an actual benefit as they'll be locked out after six hours. Nothing more than a tease.

Wouldn't go that far. A lot of Sony's exclusives come from the Japanese game developers, who almost exclusively develop for the PS3 (or Nintendo) because Microsoft just can't get a good foothold on the Japanese console market.

Being competitive with PS4 is all that matters. Microsoft is just making purchasing an Xbox One more feasible and enticing. I agree that it's Halo that will be the main bolster for Microsoft. EA Access is just a side deal to promote more people getting the Xbox One. It will be the release of Halo MCC and eventually Halo 5 Guardians that will make people go out buying Xbox Ones in droves. Sony just doesn't have an exclusive that compares to Halo in terms of popularity. Sony has a lot of good exclusives, unlike Microsoft, but not one really great one.

It has nothing to do with Sony having more business sense actually. Sony has just paid more money for exclusives. It's that simple. Microsoft is desperate as they came out with a rocky start this generation. Bad promotions and a $100 more price tag has set them back considerably and many who owned the Xbox 360 betrayed Microsoft for the PS4. The war is far from over though. Microsoft still hasn't released its trump card, Halo, of which Sony does not have an exclusive as iconic or as profitable. That will likely bring balance back to Microsoft's early shortcomings. Nintendo is a joke. Zelda or not, Nintendo won't be making many more consoles at this rate as they won't be able to afford it.

What we as consumers need is one console to rule them all. Its also kind of funny that this demo thing is little more than the Xbox One doing a strip tease.

Won't happen, as that means Microsoft or Sony would be out of the business. That would also be terrible for gamers because without competition, the price of the console would go up, the quality would go down, etc. I don't really care, even if I own an Xbox One, because my main platform is PC. I only bought the Xbox One because of Halo really, as I've been a fan since Halo CE on the original Xbox back in 2001.

You would think that Halo would be on the PC also since its also a Microsoft platform. I guess they don't do that so they can boost sales of their consoles.
