I am confused about his sister. Does she support him or the False Empress? We see her standing beside her when we arrive at the Ball. I imagine she'll act as our guide, introducing us to the Orlesian court and helping us navigate the court. I think she's a big power player. She holds a lot of power. If Gaspard wins, she'll be the sister of the Empress. If Celene wins she'll be a Grand Duchess and head of House De Chalons. Keep an eye on her.

From what I hear, it is Briala. I don't know if it's true but I've heard that apparently supporting Briala means letting Celene die and finding incriminating information on Gaspard that he is forced to do what Briala says. In other words, supporting Briala means using Gaspard as Briala's puppet.

Maybe i'll like him when it comes to that, either way, i'll wait for the release before changing my mind.

 

A lot of people here dislike characters for frivolous reasons and for me one of those are names, but who knows, as i've said before, maybe i'll like him in the game... maybe not.

 

It still does not change my opinion when it comes to the books and comics and their rather mediocre quality. Dawn of the Seeker is a perfect example of it.

Did we ever see Gaspard break an oath? 

 

 

 

In Masked Empire, it is made very clear that one reason that Gaspard is gaining ground among nobles and that Celene is losing her grasp on her rule is that people are uneasy about the lack of heir. It's also made clear that, in this respect, she is no "spring chicken." I do not personally believe inherited sovereignty to be a good method of succession anyway, but it seems to be the method they're looking for, lest the Game occur. Gaspard seizes on this weakness, but he offers her the bargain of marriage before pouncing. This would mean sharing her power, but it would also mean that she couldn't be displaced (the two of them together would be too strong). I do not believe he would continue with treachery to have her disposed (unless she started such a game), but I guess that could be argued. And it certainly is likely what she believes. 

 

The fact that Celene does not do this because of Briala, who she can never marry for a variety of reasons, is silly to me since I do not see why she cannot carry on with whomever she likes. Nobility does such things routinely. I understand how it could be used against her, but clearly it already is. Not marrying has not helped this or her position. Many people who are gay/lesbians in Thedas have political marriages, it seems; hell, many people have marriages with people they flat-out don't like for politics in Thedas;  I don't think it would be not honoring her orientation to have a political marriage. Thedas is not our world, and it doesn't have elections per se; it's also not Ancient Rome, which was a Republic, not a monarchy - in the case of Orlais, it has inherited succession and The Game. 

 

As to adoption, it does not seem that Orlais recognizes adopted or appointed successors. Celene isn't in the position to change that, nor does she attempt to. She wants to be Queen Elizabeth and just never worry about it in her lifetime, but she doesn't have the strength of Queen Elizabeth or the support. As such, a political marriage is a legitimate option. C'est la vie, as they say in Orlais. 

He swore an oath to serve Celene as Empress, then rebelled, that is breaking an oath.

 

Also, the biggest reason Gaspard gained support from the nobility was because he race baited them about Celene forcing the university to teach their children elves and humans were equal. He says this in the book.

If he wanted to invade Ferelden, it is a good move to do it right after the breach business, because Ferelden it is by then recovering from turmoil. Simply put, if Orlais get its act quickly enough, she can take advantage of the slowpoke Ferelden and surprise it with a bliztkrieg invasion. I am unsure if he plans to annex the whole of Ferelden or just to conquer parts of it, i think it would be smarter to take it slow and just extend the frontier a few miles east in order to get access to Haven and the gates of Orzammar (for trade).

While I think Orlais suffered from the Civil War and the Breach this nation is still stronger than Ferelden who has yet to recover from the Fifth Blight, Mage-Templar War and the Breach, but I'm curious about the full detail about Gaspard's ending. Does his invasion work out? and how was it if Briala using Gaspard as a puppet. I heard it's possible to have all three to work together, but I don't know how that turned out in the end, and I'm not looking forward to reunite Celene & Briala since it's like force Anora to marrying Alistair after he execute Loghain in front of her.

Are you seriously surprised? He outright says he is going to do that and guess what, he did it. Honestly, if you were expecting something else, you were only fooling yourself. This is why personality is less important than what they intend to do.

Celene intends to uplifting the elves in Orlais, but when the first sight of resistance in Halamshiral appears she choose to burn down the entire alienage just to prove her point to the nobility. Her true intention is only to keep herself in the power after all, and not to mention that killing Briala's parents business to advance herself in a political career. At this point I don't know why some people still think she's better than Gaspard, because she won't invade Ferelden and she intend to uplift the elves...oh please that doesn't make her lesser evil. Evil is evil. Celene try to conquer Ferelden through political marriage before, and she choose herself before the Elves when the Orlesian's nobility bark her about where her loyalty lies. Celene is a woman who care only for herself, but not her people nor Orlais.

In case you didn't see the ending where Celene rules alone, and Briala is exiled. Then I've got news for you, Celene didn't even bother uplifting the elves, and she soon forgot her gratitude to the Inquisition.

Yeah but while Ferelden is still weak, Orlais would still be weakened by the civil war, mage templar war and the breach. Sure they wouldn't be as weak as Ferelden but Nevarra is still in the north and was barely touched by these events. Twas A foolish move imo.. Unless we find out Markus and his brother just died
