No kidding.

Right equality for elves. She voluntarily purges the alienge to keep the nobles happy, she also has no qualms about Knights and Nobles hunting elves in the alienge for sport. Oh what a wonderful person, I just can't fathom why I wouldn't pick her.

To be fair, the elf killing in the alienage is a rite for chevaliers and its only criminals they kill.

Or, that's the idea atleast.

Yeah, only "criminals" aka curfew-breakers, who surely deserve to die!

What a bunch of bull-****ing s***.

If it's strictly for elves, I'd honestly go with Briala/Gaspard. Briala/Gaspard is basically just "Briala", with Gaspard as a figurehead, instead of her simply at the sidelines. Rights are given to elves almost immediately.

I wish Bioware had tried to justify or add depth to Gaspard's ultra-nationalist expansionary stance in-game rather than just have the tired "trying to relive the glory days" cliche.

They could have easily painted him as a geo-political realist who sees the world from the perspective of a soldier unlike much of his fellow puffed-up nobles who spend more time eating, drinking, and fornicating than they do administering their estates.

I should also point out that I have not read TME and perhaps his stances are elaborated there.

He had a charm in TME that didn't really carry over to the game, but his reasons for rebelling in the book are still inane and ignorant.

Briala/Celene.

Celene will never do as she is told, your advisers even tell you this. Gaspard can be completely controlled by Briala. If you choose Gaspard/Briala, Briala and the elves show up to fight with you in the Arbor Wilds.

OP, I was wondering if it was possible to provide details in your first post on how to choose Gaspard over Celene - in spoilers of course, this is my first playthrough and I didn't even get an option to choose Gaspard over Celene at the Winter Palace - I have a feeling not being able to get behind a few doors might have hindered my choices that I'd like to explore on future playthroughs.  Thanks.

You don't choose Gaspard over Celene, exactly.

I would seriously laugh out loud if the Keep didn't acknowledge the peace option and thus Gaspard always invades Ferelden if he rules alone.

Not really; He views military expansion as the key to revitalizing the Empire just because the world is on the precipice of change.

Nevarra is a rival that has struck against Orlais, Tevinter is a challenge in the north to their influence, how else to establish Orlesian supremacy but by retaking their lost territory and expanding the wealth and territory of the empire?

Not to mention the boon it would be to Orlais; merely outfitting and providing for that amount of troops would employ and industrialize many.

Sure ignore all the political, economical and territorial gain Gaspard wants for Orlais and it seems like he simply wants to relive the days of Drakon but if you actually apply a medicum of thought then it appears entirely diffrent.

Since that war table mission effect one of the possible endings, I doubt BioWare will look pass it. Otherwise they'll look pass many things that affect the endings, and cut all 40 different variations in the endings. You're trying too hard to convince people to side with Celene.

It's just about like not doing that peace mission between Nevarra and Tevinter and the result being a border war between the two.

<.<

I will never do that war table mission again; i'm like "the two chief rivals of Orlais killing each other?! Yes please."

I honestly wish Gaspard could have taken the throne through the war :/

The man is a warrior, a general.

His place to shine is on the battlefield.

BioWare shouldn't look pass everything that could affect the endings, but that border war between Nevarra and Tevinter Imperium is nothing to scoff at.  I think the Keep should recognize whether you complete that mission, or let it slide away.

I'm pretty sure most people will be upset, if BioWare don't acknowledge all the important war table mission since they cut many things and put it in war table missions IMO.

I gotta admit if I hadn't read TME I would probably choose Celene

we really didn't get to know her "other side" (hypocritical, not loyal etc.) in the game she seemed almost like a good empress so I'm glad that I actually read the book

In the end I chose Gaspard, let Celene die and Briala be executed!

And I also did the War table mission as much as I like Gaspard I don't want him to invade Ferelden

No offence to Gaspard supporters, but I am going to pop in here to question why anyone would support a warlord over a cultural world-leader xD

If it's strictly for elves, I'd honestly go with Briala/Gaspard. Briala/Gaspard is basically just "Briala", with Gaspard as a figurehead, instead of her simply at the sidelines. Rights are given to elves almost immediately.

Isn't Gaspard prideful? He openly revolted against Celene. How long would it take for him to get fed up with being controlled by an elf? It certainly doesn't create peace in the empire as it remains controlled by deception/blackmail/threats...

With Briala/Celene, elves are given rights immediately as well. Briala herself is invited to address the court, and is made a marquis by Celene and given land. Not only that, but they continue to improve the lives of elves together, openly.

Gaspard may be a better puppet (for a time) but Celene and Briala can become actual partners and that leads to true equality and acceptance for elves.

"Celene will never do as she is told, your advisors even tell you this. Gaspard can be completely controlled by Briala. If you choose Gaspard/Briala, Briala and the elves show up to fight with you in the Arbor Wilds."

Of course Celene will never do as she is told: She is a proper Empress, she doesn't take commands, she gives them. She can be worked with using diplomacy, but she can't be bullied into becoming a puppet. Not to mention... Why did Briala send her people to the Arbor Wilds? Orlais has an army she supposedly controls: Did she really send her own people to fight? I suppose its the gesture that counts, but I thought she was out for protecting her people, not sacrificing them.
