If blackmailing Celene and Gaspard into getting married like he initially planned was an option, I might take it.

Bloody ew.
At least Gaspard is willing to acquiesce to being Briala's pawn...

Couldn't be anymore ew, toxic and unhealthy than Celene & Briala relationship imo.

Nah, it's worse. Celene and Briala at least have some kind of emotional chemistry and mutual affection. Of course, I frankly don't think any Orlesian nobles are entirely psychologically healthy, but since all three of them are screwed up, having two screwed-up people who love each other hardly seems to be the worst option.

I wonder who would 'accidentally' smother the other with a pillow first...

As long as that prude celene gets knocked up first.
That's the bit of import.

Hardly. Royal families are large enough for the Council of Heralds to pull someone else out of their hats once Celene dies.

My thoughts exactly.
Though I think Celene would go for the eyes.

Prude? The only sex that happens in the novel involves her.
Anyway, I doubt there would ever be a any between them at this point. Maybe before they'd nearly ripped their country apart whilst hating the other for it, they might have tried. This would just be teeth clenched team work. For the rest of their lives.
Or, maybe they'd kill each other War of the Roses style.

Oh no I'd believe a child would be of the utmost importance to the empire; whether Celene would submit to her duty or not is irrelevant.
If not willingly...well, a symbolic action like that would be of benefits regardless.

Plus the seventh in line can potentially die at Therinfall.
Seriously if marrying them were a option, children would be essential.

Pointedly ignoring what I think you're driving at, he loathes her too much, too. It actually makes sense that making them marry each other isn't possible in the game. I was just noting that if it were, I might use it to keep my favorite resolution (blackmailing all three) from being such a temporary one.
Making them marry each other would stop his plotting, and still make use of their respective skills.

Obviously, they are not as smart as Alistair and Anora. Those two at least understood that their country was more important then their own wants.

Indeed.
I'm just pointing out; to finish this internal divide the families need to reunite, that means children.
New blood in the line, let the past die in the dust of history.
Plus it prevents...issue if something happened to one or both monarchs.

Nah. Let one of them die and the seat of power be passed to someone new. It won't hurt anything in the long run, and monarchy is a terrible political system anyway.

A fair point, and I agree that these two are both more selfish than Alistair and Anora. On the other hand, it's possible for both of those two to refuse to do it under certain circumstances (Anora if Alistair executes Loghain and unhardened Alistair if Loghain lives).
Celene and Gaspard both love Orlais, and they blame the other for nearly destroying it. They have a lot to hate each other for.

Another civil war could hurt something in the long run, and the relative merits of monarchy aren't going to stop Orlesian nobles from shredding their country to pieces all over again to fight for the crown.

I think that if Celene or Gaspard knows that they aren't going to be having an heir anytime soon (unless Celene and Briala are together and Briala gains... magical benefits not yet explored in the series), they can plan ahead with the Council of Heralds and other possible heirs.

so who is this magical heir they didn't have when all the other heirs also died?
