a very modern trend, I think some monarchies still have Agnatic succession on the booksThat's not always the case. There are monarchies where the oldest child inherit the crown regardless of gender. My country has a crown princess despite the fact that she has a younger brother.

Sure, we didn't change the act of succession until 1980. But that doesn't make the fact that our next two monarchs will be Queens any less real.
Not sure how it is in DA. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferelden has absolute primogeniture. But since Moira was an only child there's not much proof either way.

There is such a thing as infertility, it affects both male and females, equally. One would expect it to exist in Thedas just as it does in the real world.
And it just happens to plague all the Monarchies of all people. How inconvenient......
King Markus of Nevarra - No Kids
His Brother, No kids
Celene - No kids -Also last member of the dynasty
Gaspard - No kids
Cailan - No kids -Last legitimate member of the dynasty
Alistair - No kids -Last member of the dynasty
Anora - No kids -Last member of the dynasty
And those that do have kids seem to only have 1, 2 is the biggest family you'll ever see in Thedas.
We're beyond the point of coincidence, this is just ridiculous

Well, Thedas has much more liberal views on gender than were present in the actual Middle Ages. I would be suprised if all succession in most Thedosian countries was not absolute succession.
I wouldn't really call banning men from the priesthood, Female preference or Female only sucession in the Kingdom of Rivain, And the banning of females from the millitary in the Qun (Bs recent retcon aside. Sorry, "Adding to the Lore") and The banning men from obtaining the position of Arigena. Liberal views on gender

Those are still a lot more liberal than what existed in our history in the equivalent time.

I would have said ignoring the Qun, but there is apparently the whole acceptance of transsexuality development thing that we've gotten. I'm sure that would have been thrown at me if I said they were less liberal.
I also said more liberal than the Middle Ages. It's difficult not to be more liberal the Middle Ages. There are issues in Thedas, but it's generally a much more accepting place.

I find it boggling that they'd make Thedas that Liberal and yet everybody still hates elves lol.

I wish we got to interact with our ruler of choice more post Winter Palace. Although, I will admit Gaspard's war table operation's (An Invitation from the Emperor) description had me fan-girling a little
You can't help but smile when you read the first bit:

Hey guys. o/
So...any good recommendation of fanfics with Gaspard?
It can be of all sorts. Shortfic, longfic, romance, angst, stuff about his past (growing up with Celene and being groomed to become emperor one day), predictions regarding his role as Emperor, etc.
