Gaspard vs Celene choice is like picking between the two devils...Its like picking between the Democrats vs Republicans..Both are full of crappy baggage.

This is a case where you will pick the lesser of two evils. IMO, I will choose Gaspard because he is the lesser of two evils.

Gaspard is very upfront about his goals and intentions. There is little political bullcrap with him. He does not hide what he is which I like.

Whereas Celene is someone who presents a different face and yet acts differently. She presents herself as a tolerant and progressive ruler yet she burned down an elven living area to prove her point and had Briala's parents assassinated.

You can at least trust Gaspard to keep his Sword.

Not really - his oath to Orlais includes fealty to the Emperor/Empress sitting on the throne and he broke that oath (and like someone already said: He wanted to burn down an entire city in order to find Celene - even though it was obvious she was no longer there!) - that and that alone makes his word (and any promises he might make - if you can side with him...we don't know if they really let you do that) really worthless (I don't plan on ending up betrayed at best or outright murdered at worst - there is only one good thing about him: He would probably kill you himself, instead of sending an assassin after you like Loghain - so he is an honest traitor...still a traitor though!)

greetings LAX

ps: Fixed it for you - (Sword instead of word)

Actually we don't know if Chevaliers swear to the leader of Orlais or rather Orlais it self.

Many militaries do one or the other, in fact we don't even know if Gaspard took an oath at all to be honest, you figure it would have been brought up in TME if it was the big deal you were making it out to be.

Doesn't really matter. Gaspard is very selective in his approach to oaths - if he swore a personal oath to the Emperor/Empress he'd just reason it out that his true oath is to Orlais, which coincidentally means that Gaspard should be in charge.

I do hope we get a chance to face Gaspard in battle would be interesting to see if he's as strong as he claims.

I'd rather meet Celenes' ex-champion :) (he sounds like what a I would expect from a Knight - unlike most chevaliers)

greetings LAX

ps: Yes, meet - not fight (though a quest where you have to fight - and best - somebody (without necessarily killing the person) might be cool, even more if the person to fight is a tough cooky (like the Arishok in DA2 was))

Actually people still have arms and hands removed for crimes, people are still hung, electrocuted, shot, and all these other things some folks would label "sickening" heck one of our biggest allies in the middle east still has stoning as a form of execution.

Sorry to say: Execution is OK (if it fits the crime) IMHO for things like murder, rape, torture (of innocent people - I would not punish someone for murder (if I had the choice that is) if they did it to avenge their family or someones rape and torture)...but mutilating someone is not (under no circumstances...well, one exception - maybe - remove a rapists testicles and let them work and lead a productive life instead of killing them (at least if the rape victim survived))...

greetings LAX

Beyond that; i doubt anyone in Orlais would support it.

Her plan was not to work with Cailen, but to marry him in order to bring Ferelden back into Orlais.  Loghain nailed that one.

Then probably have a child with him, Then have him killed. Cailan was not a bright one.

Still he was in the field with his men; more then i can say for Celene.

Gaspard actually rode with his forces.

Which is why I wanted a chance to fight him so badly, From people's comments he was quite skilled.

All Chevaliers are skilled; but Michel and Gaspard are exceptionally skilled.

Him managing to take advantage of a minute crack in a silverite blade in order to shatter to the weapon should be proof enough of that.

Well fingers crossed, I always enjoyed the one versus one boss fights.

Eh... i'm thinking its about fifty/fifty personally.

That said if he actually does draw a sword for a boss fight, i'm almost conflicted on how i actually want him to fight, if i actually want him healed.

You might just end up having to walk up to while he is seated and stab him in the chest.

Not much fun in that though; but if he can't fight then he can't fight.

Cailan was out in the field with his men. That choice led to civil war within his country. I don't have issue with Celene over this. Leaders of nations should play to your strengths and not take unnecessary risks.

I am curious though, how does Gaspard and Celene regard the Chantry?

I'm guessing Celene isn't that big a fan considering her lax attitude towards mages and elves but Gaspard seems more of a traditionalist.

So far his only expressed opinion was that they should be killing the enemies of Orlais rather then themselves.

In so far as Mages and Templars.

Which betrays an ignorance of both the Mage/Templar situation and how the Circles work... but I imagine magic and the Circle was never really an area of notice for him, or the nobility in general, really.

His militaristic attitude makes me believe he'll have traditional values though.
