I would like apologies in advance if similar topic was already discussed again and gain (I tried to use “search”) or if i pick incorrect forum thread for such question,  but just in case –

Will we still have an ability to allocate attribute points (strength, dexterity and e.t.c.) during character creation? I am asking this only because I recently (yeah, I’m slow) watched video regarding DA:I character creation and while we have an opportunity to choose race, gender and size of cheekbones and lipstick color (last two are crucial parameters for RPG, I know) i did not see the one of the most important parts – the  actual attribute points allocation. I realize that we no longer can receive attribute points after level up – and it’s not a big tragedy since we had pretty much the same in BG1 and BG2, but will we have a chance to actually “calibrate” attributes of our protagonist in the beginning?

You do know this isn't Baldur's Gate: Inquisition, right?

Attribute allocation has been removed from the player's control this time.   They are still there for you to look at so that it feels like a standard RPG, though.   However, they don't want players messing up by thinking outside the little boxes that they have created for the classes.

Sorry, I am a bit hyper-cynical this morning.   Its one of my pet peeves in watching games remove things from the player's control in order to 'prevent' them from making a mistake.

You do know that in DA:O and DA2 during character creation we could balance our attributes

Wait, we don't receive attribute points at level up? Where did this come from?

Skill points only, as far as i know.

Nope.

Thank you.

Trully sad news.

Attribute points are now received from passives and from gear so there's still a lot of versatility and possibilities.

That is so nice.

Maybe next time there will be no dialogues as well.

In case player will mess something up during conversation.

You still have as much if not more control over your attributes. You just now do it though creating and modifying equipment to fit your needs instead of clicking the + button next to a particular stat in CC and on level up.

From what can be gleaned from the videos, etc, this system will make what tree and skills you choose have more import.

I'm definitely interested how they intend to fuel the player's sense of progression, but I believe the strategy is tied into power and agency of not only themselves but of the organisation they represent.

Basically, your sense of progression is intended to be linked cohesively with the Inquisition, which is why they are using Power.. the removal of individual attribute points and addition of Inquistion perks, etc. is a testiment to that.

It may be designed to see the Inquisition as an intrinsic part of your character and vice versa.

You are mistaken, that was only possible in DA:O. DA2 did not allow you to alter the starting attribute of Hawke, it was a preset per class.

No.  More emphasis on specialisation and the new power mechanic instead.

Instead of having a variable base via attributes with variable equipment, you're now just a blank slate with different hats. So you can't screw up or think outside of the box.

You can think outside the box and screw up all you like. You just do it with the stats on the gear and not the stats on your character. No net difference what so ever.

Oh, I think there is a net difference.... If you screw up with attribute allocation on level up, you can't fix it without a respec potion... If you screw up with attribute allocation on gear, you can't fix it until you get new gear, or farm the necessary materials to make new gear.

They've basically made the punishment more severe, because instead of taking 5 minutes to respec your character, you're now taking 50 minutes scrounging up materials so you can fix the mistake you made on the armor on your feet...

Perhaps....on the other hand, compared to Origins, where there weren't respec potions....

I actually like this system a fair bit better.

I was SOOO ANGRY when I did blood mage spec specifically to control an enemy and yet my willpower was so high! Nothing like having a massive mana pool dragged to 30% and unusable right... Right?

Thank God I need not suffer through that bs in DAI

But you're not relying on random drops in DA:I, you're crafting exactly what you want. So....

Two things:
1)Crafting is supposed to be optional... So one isn't required to craft exactly what they want, which would mean they're relying on random drops for gear...
2)If one does choose to craft, one would be relying on on random drops to get the crafting supplies needed to make the item in question.

The crafting materials for the better gear will come from random drops from what I understand.
