Get used to it. By DA4 or 5 the game will pick abilities and such for us as well. You level up to level 2 as mage you get a fireball. Level 3, cone of cold. Something like that. It is the next step, really.

As to your last point, yes - I disliked finding the different set pieces all over the place, some in boxes or chests that you may not have noticed, and spread across 5+ Levels, I certainly hope that won't be making a comeback. A poor design choice.
More than poor. In DAII, you only get a piece of the Act 2 armor if you kill someone rather than actually thinking and bringing Aveline to threaten him. In other words, you were punished with not completing the Act 2 item set if you actually thought

I actually like this system a fair bit better.
I was SOOO ANGRY when I did blood mage spec specifically to control an enemy and yet my willpower was so high! Nothing like having a massive mana pool dragged to 30% and unusable right... Right?
Thank God I need not suffer through that bs in DAI
On the other hand... get ALL the sustains!!!
I took the time to boost willpower a bit for my blood mage, since I wanted a lot of sustains. By the end of Awakening, you couldn't see my character through all the particle effects.

There's also an Act 2 set that you can only get the final part in Act 3. The sense that makes.

Yes, this game follows the MMO path.
You get your stats from Gear and not level up.
The main advantage of the crafting system is you can choose a particular look and stick with that look for the rest of the game simply by upgrading your mods.
You can also find a style you like and change the colour by using different crafting materials.
I know that it can rankle as it feels like your playing your gear and not your character, but the trade off is that you have a great deal more freedom on how you customize the look of your character.

Could have done that bit and still let the player level up his character "normally", though.

To some people it is.
It's the difference between having a powerful character and having powerful stuff.
If the plot calls for you to be imprisoned and your items taken away in DAI you are going to be powerless until you get your items back (You wouldn't have the strength to wield some random weapon you found and you might not have the Magic to cast the spells you learned.)
Again, I much rather play a character than their items, I just like the customization that item mods afford.

Well, I doubt our attributes are going to stay the same for the whole game, DnD-style. Besides, even if they don't improve with levels, certain passives give attribute bonuses. So, you aren't just playing your items.

You could have use that "Auto Distribute" button, which was available in both previous games. But since kicking some arses is all you care, you probably didn't even read the manual to know that it is right there.

So you like which idea (your words) ? That you don't have to didtribute them manually - probably not this, because it was already there for past two games. So maybe this idea, that the choice was taken out for pepole who liked to do it by themselves. Which one ?

The - I don't need to dick with them myself. That way, I can actually play the game without worrying about wtf goes where. I'm SO sorry, that I'm not a gaming master like you. Who knows everything about RPG, I know my lack of knowledge in this department offends you... Soo.

You're still going to have to worry about wft goes where when you play the game... But instead of having to click a + button during level up, you'll have to be meticulous in your allocation of stats when you craft your gear, and select what to wear.
As much as it's claimed that "crafting is optional", it's clearly not at this point. If you're required to allocate stats to armor in order to progress in combat(and it certainly looks like you will, if you want to have a modicum of success after the first few hours), you're going to be required to craft...

We can customize gear, choose varied looks, and choose from Spells and Talents (though these are all the same base choices for everyone, too). And besides the loss of Player's choosing stats, they no longer need to worry about selecting the incorrect weapons, have fewer quickslots, etc.
DAI looks to be a great game; simply wonder how much better it might have been if the Players were allowed to select their own choices. Even I tire of the same chocolate-chip cookies; occasionally wish to try other recipes.

Yawn players have more control over their attributes then they did in past DA games it is simply not done during CC or lvl up. You get stat bonuses from skills and equipment which you control and when you lvl your attributes increase but these increases are set.
What you get is a system that requires a little more effort by the player but allows the player to create multiple builds of the character by respecing your abilities and putting on different armour. You get MORE versatillity in the current system. It requires a little more effort in that you have to create armour BUT you can experiment with outside the box builds for classes and if you find that they don't work you can simply change your abilities and change your equipment. You don't have to start a new game.

The pic of cookies is somewhat appropriate, because we now have the same characters baked for everyone. Sure; some might add more chips along the way, but we all have the same base recipe.

My niece loves the Sims, and could spend hours looking at fashion mods. Guess it is a good game, though it is not for me. I care less about items and crafting them, than actually creating the characters themselves for RPG's.
We all get the same Spell & Talent templates depending on Class, and am doubtful if there will be variations of the same ability (eg; Evasion +3 DEX, STR or other attribute). And fewer options yields lesser possible outcomes; expect more of the same builds, and not greater variations.
And if one is tired or bored, perhaps varying the routine can help; remarkably refreshing for many.
