"An error occurred applying the 1.02 update to your version of Dragon Age: Origins [36]"
I get this message after a dos-box opens and *appears* to patch many files.
After clicking "OK" I'm left with a window titled "Dragon Age: Origins: Update Setup: Completed".
The blue progress bar is only about 1/3 "done".
Above that, there is a DA:O shield icon and "- 36".
Inside the black dialog box, green print reads:
"Running external installer for 'RTPatch'... This may take a few moments - 36".
The only button not greyed-out os "Cancel", which I click to close the window.
Have I installed the patch or not?
I cannot find the installed version number anywhere (obvious) when I start the game.
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and I've updated 'vcredist_x64'.
Assistance, please?
Cannot install Patch 1.02a (Error - 36)

This isn't an official tech support forum. This is for users to help users. Try the official EA support. To check your patch version, run the game - you will get the splash screen with Configure, Support, Play etc. In the configure box go to the game section. This will show you the version of all your executables. i.e. DAOrigins.exe = v1.02

I'll try to find a more official support site.
Neither "Configure" nor "Support" are options when I start the game. The configuration utility is a separate executable and informs me I'm using v1.01, so I have *not* succeeded in patching my game.
Thanks for the help, tho.

The only solution offered me was to backup my save games:
Click on the Start button and select My Documents.
Open the BioWare folder.
Open the Dragon Age folder.
Right-click on the Characters folder and select Cut.
Right-click on your Desktop and select Paste.
To restore your Dragon Age saved game files, move the folder mentioned above back into the Dragon Age folder.
Backup the save data in Windows Vista:
Click on the Start button and select Documents
Open the BioWare folder.
Open the Dragon Age folder.
Right-click on the Characters folder and select Cut.
Right-click on your Desktop and select Paste.
To restore your Dragon Age saved game files, move the folder mentioned above back into the Dragon Age folder.
Then manually remove the game and re-install from CD:
http://help.dragonag...p?p_faqid=23831
I did so and it seems to have worked, as I successfully applied the 1.02 patch.
Now some of the DLC I paid for, specifically "Warden's Keep", "Blood Dragon Armor" and "Stone Prisoner" show as "(Unauthorized)". I've already played through them, though, so *maybe* it'll be OK.
Honestly, this has been a very unsatisfactory solution. I've lost patience and abandoned the game for a while. Maybe I'll start playing again in a week or two.
