Clearly there is an option to kill her, even in the keep. But from DAI previews it seems that she plays an integral role. I'm confused.

By the description of the tile in question, Leliana is "left for dead"(not killed) by the Warden, if events play out a certain way at the Sacred Temple...  And it is not a surprise that she would be alive and well in DAI, if one has played DA2...

All that said, there is still no "real" explanation given for it... Though, until Morrigan sees her in DAI, Leliana hasn't really needed to explain the discrepancy(because no one could conceivably refute it)...

She will be in DAI no matter what. You didn't kill her in DAO, much like you couldn't kill Morrigan in Witch Hunt.

Yup, it's ambiguous. Since we "left her for dead" there's room for her to actually not be dead.

Nope, Killing Leliana doesn't "exist" because one of the developers said so.  Stupid thing really. And I remember reading a few articles and threads about how bullshit and stupid that was to take that decision and make it irrelevant from the players.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel? lol

Thing is, it's Bioware's story. They can do whatever they want with it. If they want to retcon something in the grand tradition of authors everywhere (even Tolkien did this *gasp!*) they are well within their rights.

She lives to haunt the Warden, as the jealous, religious and pedantic girlfriend; or the Vengeful, bloodthirsty mage slaughterer.

Hehe, I'm aware the writers can do their thing.   :D  Doesn't stop it from being stupid.  And if you read carefully, I was only pointing out that their decision upset a lot of people. I guess there's a lot of hate for the character.

I never played DA2... I couldn't take the rape. I hated Leliana in DAO, was hoping I'd never see her.

Well she was in DA2 as well remember, so - whatever Dark Arts are responsible for bringing her back - it all happened a long time ago!

There was far more rape in DAO than in DA2... But whatever...

Everyone has someone they don't like. I'm happy I don't have to see Alistair in any of my DAI games unless I choose to...  So, I don't begrudge anyone who is annoyed they have to see Leliana.

Uhhh...What? What rape?  Maybe I glossed over it because it seemed a normal thing during war. . .

It's basically every other sentence involving humans in the City Elf Origin...  I believe there are hints of it in the Dwarven Castless Origin, too...  But there's very little in the game proper.

But there are more accounts of rape in those two bits than there are in all of DA2....

They can do whatever they want and in this case, they decided to do this. And as you said, why not? You can just think that Andraste herself brought her back to life 'cause she still has work to do as the Hand of the Divine. If that makes you sleep better at night.

Remember, It worked with Gandalf!

Wait ... Gandalf's in the game?

I think I might have to pre-order a second copy!   ;)

He is in a DLC, together with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. You know, so they'd sell more copies in Japan and the Middle Earth.

D'oh! And I bet it's in that Multi-Player DLC that I won't be getting!

"It's their story" is the most pathetic excuse for bad storytelling. They could have had the archdemon turn out to be Duncan all along! Or a box turtle. but those would be lame.

Leliana coming back would have been fine if the alluded to it somehow in the game, but that decision was made later, so it looks stupid.

Retconning major decisions that the player has made is always in poor taste.

Honestly, it's not a retcon.  You TRIED to kill her.  You just weren't successful.  You attacked her, yes.  You severely wounded her, yes.  You didn't kill her.  That's all.  So unless you checked for a pulse before leaving, you can't call it a retcon.

Even if you did killed her it doesn't mean anything, Wynne died and came back, so did Evangeline. Once they set it up this way, there is nothing preventing them from reviving just about any character with some help of a friendly spirit from the Fade.

At this point there's really no point in dwelling on it. Her role in DA:I is just too important so even if you tried to kill her, she's here to stay, Also bioware isn't that dumb, they only bring characters back if they have a reason to.

This just means that Leliana would be an abomination, like Wynne, Anders, and Evangeline.  Which means you have the Maker's permission to kill Leliana just like every other abomination...  As well as the Maker's permission to kill her again, if the first time doesn't take.  :P

I imagine they totally could have told the story without a companion *cough*Mass Effect*cough*  someone just liked her too much.
