A little bit of my excitement died for a few minutes.

I'm over it now.

As far as I'm concerned I've lost a lot of hope with this news. not so much with Mac being "bigger than Lead Writer". I always thought he had a decent grip on what Mass Effect should be at its core, but he didn't have a proper grasp on plotting things out in depth with his writing, but it's the news that Halo 4's lead writer is now our Mass Effect 4 lead writer that has me extremely worried... cuz Halo 4 was not good. It was just not good at all. I think my biggest gripe was how there was zero comic relief in Halo 4 when previously Halo's writing was known for its tongue in cheek humor. I also didn't really like the "humanization" of Halo with Halo 4, but perhaps that's something that works better with Mass Effect since Mass Effect isn't about ancient and mysterious relics but more about techy sci-fi fantasy stuff.

Yeah, yeah okay there was that. But for the most part Mass Effect always went more into detail whereas Halo had a lot of "unknown" artefats and the whole mystery of the forerunners from the getgo. Of course ME has the Reapers but I always got a more techy sci fi vibe from Mass Effect where the writers tried to rationalize the lore as much as possible where in Halo a lot is intentionally kept vague.

Halo figuratively clouds all its scifi with ethereal angelic chants.

I'd like Mass Effect to not go too far in that direction.

I think I'm more concerned about the art and game design leads.

BioWare's art direction has probably suffered the biggest loss in quality over the last few games. There's no reason why a game that takes place in a single city in the desert has a wider palette and richer, more diverse visuals than a game that takes place in space with various planets and alien cultures. Better resolution does not equal better visuals and, as ME3 demonstrates, arguably makes them worse. I hope this new guy moves away from the brown is real school of art design and the over use of the industrial/base motif.

I also hope the next game plays more like Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Creative Director? Is that the title for the guy that rolls the joint before they come up with an ending?

ME3 had some pretty decent scenes but it failed mightily in the ending and incorporating some of the major characters in the series.

In case you missed the N7 Day live stream, I can assure you that the art of ME4 will be great, at least I think it is:

Mac mentioned "Organics vs Synthetics" as a ME4 theme in the stream just now ;)

Clearly, he has not learned from the endings.

"Yessir. Mako sighting confirmed."

"Squee!"

"Didn't get that, sir. Say again."

"SQUEEEEE."

"Copy that."

So, the entirety of ME:Next will be used to justify synthetics always rebelling against organics and the impossibility of peace between them, because no one bought that from Catalyst as the ending on ME3?    Wow, the outcry must have hurt if they are willing to make a full game just for that!

EDIT: I am being sarcastic and purposely jumping to conclusions (in case it wasn't obvious in the above)

Funnily, Destiny kinda does the same thing. Archon's soul? The frak is that mess?

Uhm, pretty sure he said that it was one of the big themes that were explored in the trilogy

Well, as long as it isn't William C Dietz. :D

As for a serious comment, I haven't played any of the Halo games since 1, so I have no idea about this guys previous work and even if I did, I don't think it matters much. Different franchises have different writing requirements and any half way serious writer would adapt in that regard. Also, it's not like he's writing everything on his own. There are many factors which will determine the quality of the final plot. So at this point, all bets are open.

Okay guys, never played it. Was the writing good in Halo 4 or was it casual trash?
