Is early access not available on PC purely out of fear of piracy?

Some people implied this and I really want to know. I could KILL for early access but I would also never risk wasting the DA:I experience on a console when I can play it on my PC. I mean Im here right now, I would gladly pay up to 30% of the original game price for early access:

acb.jpg

If the fear of piracy is really the reason, then why not simply allow the game to pre-download the first areas only? Its not like the pirates can steal the whole cake when only one piece of cake is on the table right?

I vexes me to extreme lengths that I cant get early access just because it could be possible for someone to steal the game. I mean... there HAS to be some sort of easy solution to this.

If PC gamers cant get early access simply due to this fear of pirates. Then the pirates have already won - by saying "publishers are too incompetent to find a solution to their customers that we cant penetrate"

IM A PC MASTER RACE GAMER FFS! And I'm left here :(

This cant be happening... I refuse to believe it...

I find that to be a weak argument as piracy will happen regardless of whether EA Access was on PC or not. I just don't believe EA has an interest in bringing the service to PC at this time. It's likely because PC gamers are a minority of their sales, and they are more interested in getting money from the majority of the gaming community: consoles.

I imagine it's more part of their dealings with Microsoft who really badly wants the Xbox One to be a success and doesn't seem to care much about PC gaming even though most of us use their operating system.

I think it's more likely publishers don't really give a damn about the PC market. Except when they fail to meet projected sales on consoles. :P

So its not actually about Dragon Age Inquisition or Origins, and Bioware doesent have a say in this? This early access is probably 100% related to wanting to sell more consoles?

Imo Bioware should take a stand, and ask EA if they can add early access to PC aswell. For the sake of ... solidarity, equality and fairness. Is Bioware really powerless in influencing EA in this matter? O.o

Considering BioWare works for EA and not the other way around I'd say the answer to your question is 'yes.'

PC has been the largest segment of the gaming community since 2012, unless you're just talking about sales in this specific genre.

Yawn. As a PC gamer who doesn't own a console these types of threads grate me. QQ tantrums of the conspiracy against PCs is laughable.

The console market is more profitable.

The console market is not a monolith.

Not all Consoles get early access.

You are not as important in the world as you mother told you.

Console exclusives are designed to get people to buy consoles not to pushish people.

One group getting early access is FAIR, because you were only ever promised access on release day.

Suck it up people.

I imagine it's more about $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

An exclusive deal to, hopefully, make some big bucks out of effectively nothing. Sure it's only $5, but it increases the chance you're going to buy the game they want you to buy, digitally (so far less overhead), and if you don't they get $5 bucks for virtually nothing.... multiplied by all the members they have.

This is the far more likely case considering they could have done the same with PS3/PS4 had they chosen to, since pirating on any console at the moment is far more difficult than PC (but not impossible, it's been happening for a long while).

I completely understand people wanting to have early access but it's totally a marketing move.  Though I would think it would only sway people who either haven't bought a new console or  people who already own an Xbox.    It's not a conspiracy, just a matter of money and that's what it's all about when you get right down to it.

I'm never going to buy another console.  Ever.  So I will be zen (zen damn it. ZEN) and wait.  I hope Xbox players will enjoy their six hours (I know I would and then I'd be twitchy when I blew through those six hours and had to wait for full release).

Where did you find that statement? Outside of WoW, LoL, and DOTA 2 (essentially MMOs or MOBAs), console gaming is the largest and most profitable market. Especially for AAA games, you aren't competitive or making the money you could if you aren't on Xbox or Playstation.

Actually, EA offered it to Sony as well but they turned it down:

“We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect,” a Sony representative said via email. “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

Microsoft is throwing money at everything to promote their XBone with (timed) exclusivity deals. I'm not mad at BioWare/EA accepting the money (or rather Microsoft jumping the chance for pay for it) for as long as it doesn't cut into my comfort zone for PC gaming. By all means, more money for them indirectly means more content for me and all that just for one week XBox timed demo/early release. I'm happy. BioWare's happy. EA's very happy.

Microsoft wrote Bioware/EA a big ass check to have early access on Xbox only. This is not complicated...

I guess the Xbox EA Access thingy will either (1) set a new precedent where we see every publisher offering the same service or (2) it will crash and burn.

Sorry, I'm with Sony on this, it is not good value for money. $60 per year for a 10% discount means I would need to buy 10 EA games at full price per year to justify the cost. The 6 hour "demo" is inconsequential and would only appeal to a tiny minority who have no self control and a "shut up and take my money" attitude.

And seriously, does everybody think MS paid for the exclusivity? Sony were offered the same deal but turned it down.

EA Access isn't about screening demos of up and coming games, it's about supplying an archive of games that people are willing to pay a subscription to play, £30 a year to play a selection of EA games. They have added a few perks to the membership, 10% off of new EA games and Early Access to their up and coming games.

It would surprise some people on here but DA:I Early Access is only bonus content to a rather good game hub. It is not the main purpose of EA Access.

To everyone complaining about Microsoft paying EA a tonne of money for Access. Shut up please.

Sony turned it down when it was offered to them.

And PC users already have amazing deals on most games. Steam for example.

Edit: It's £20 a YEAR. So expensive, oh nooo...
