Is early access not available on PC purely out of fear of piracy?

I guess the Xbox EA Access thingy will either (1) set a new precedent where we see every publisher offering the same service or (2) it will crash and burn.

Sorry, I'm with Sony on this, it is not good value for money. $60 per year for a 10% discount means I would need to buy 10 EA games at full price per year to justify the cost. The 6 hour "demo" is inconsequential and would only appeal to a tiny minority who have no self control and a "shut up and take my money" attitude.

And seriously, does everybody think MS paid for the exclusivity? Sony were offered the same deal but turned it down.

It's $30, not $60. And it's not just the discounts. Think of it like getting a discount on buying movies with your Netflix subscription. The discount is periphery to the main service, which is unlimited rental of AAA content.

Anyone that has EA Access is well aware that they have only 6 hours of playtime until release.   If they burn it up all at once, that's on them and not on anyone else.  Sure, it's a great way to get them hooked, but anyone with the access knows that they have a limited amount of time.

Personally, I don't care if a few people play the game first.  They paid for the privilege after all.   I didn't, so I'm content to wait for another 10 days.   :)

Yawn. As a PC gamer who doesn't own a console these types of threads grate me. QQ tantrums of the conspiracy against PCs is laughable.

The console market is more profitable.

The console market is not a monolith.

Not all Consoles get early access.

You are not as important in the world as you mother told you.

Console exclusives are designed to get people to buy consoles not to pushish people.

One group getting early access is FAIR, because you were only ever promised access on release day.

Suck it up people.

you are a miserable person I bet, and your mama didn't told you that you aren't funny did she?

PC has been the largest segment of the gaming community since 2012, unless you're just talking about sales in this specific genre.

Actually from what I have heard the smartphone/tablet/ipad users are the biggest gaming population. However, I just heard this so I don't actually know whether this is true or not.

Where did you find that statement? Outside of WoW, LoL, and DOTA 2 (essentially MMOs or MOBAs), console gaming is the largest and most profitable market. Especially for AAA games, you aren't competitive or making the money you could if you aren't on Xbox or Playstation.

LOL!

Ok.. well how about we compare PC vs console, but no shooters or action adventure AAA games count on the console side because!

MOBA's, MMO's and strategy games are part of the PC market place. Why exactly are you excluding them?

My PC can wait another 10 more days to play the game.  :P  I rather be playing the full game instead of just playing 6 hours of game play and wait to play the rest of at initial release.

Well, yes, this is in its purest form true, but a lot of us don't consider them real games... the very most recent episode of South Park pretty much sums it up and the general /eyeroll feeling "real gamers" have about it.
