I think this is due to the reason that Hawke is Hawke, the Warden has somehow is you! I think it was a disappointment to most players being forced to play with Hawke.

Personally speaking, I loved to play with Hawk, I do not do the SI thing (Self Insert) in the game story... I play with the character and I love to get into his/her skin, I love to get out of my skin, to do and think things I would never otherwise do...imagine and create things in my mind to make it  (the characters) more believable/awesome ;)

There is no Vixzer at the game only the story and the richly made characters... that is the fun for me at least :P

Or maybe not, seeing his advantage in Hawke's stress and sexual frustration. =o

The Hawke hate is nothing new and among the reasons are some pretty interesting ones ....such as him having a voice actor ....lol im actually serious.

Anyways i like Hawke, he was a well written character imo he isnt your typical hero , that comes into any situation and farts solutions to said situation out of thin air nope he was a guy who had to struggle to make the best out of the worst situation over and over. Saying he was the one who caused most of the trouble in kirkwall is pretty dumb for a lack of better word.

I hope he plays a good role in DA I and judging from the scenes we've seen so far he just might.

This is why I like Hawke as well.  Let's face it most of the choices Hawke had to make were mostly crappy.  Like in Act 1 the quest on whether you sent Grace and co. back to the circle.  One the one hand Karras is a dbag.  Thrask is cool, but the dialog in quest and out of quest shows that he is the exception not the rule in Kickwall.  But Grace and co. were hanging out with bloodmages and while they say they aren't you/Hawke have no way of knowing if this is true.  Furthermore these are Circle mages that have no idea how to survive outside the Circle.  So either way both decisions are crappy.  This is just one example but Hawke is usually put in a position of having to choice a lesser evil, whichever you as the player think is the lesser evil.  But rarely is Hawke given an 'I win' button.  To me this made the character and the circumstances more 'real' in a sense.

While some of the circumstances could have been presented better, I blame most of this on the short development time.  Not on Hawke as a character.

Hawke was the guy sent in to solve problems that had already reached the f*** me stage, once you reach that stage there is very little you can do to get a good solution, imo.  He had to make the best of what he was given, just like real life

(fyi, my job is usually having ppl come to me and say, "I f*** up, pls fix it."  My response most days comes down to, "sorry, you passed the point of no return, you have X number of options.  All suck, sorry."  That is why I empathized with Hawke, more than the Warden ^_^ )

I expect Hawke has as much of a role in the story as Morrigan and Flemeth, especially since we know that some of DA2's Planned Expansion was wrapped into DA:I so Hawke is assured to be more than a simple cameo. That and we know from the trailer that Hawke will fight by our side at least once.

Not to mention that the Boss from DA2's Legacy DLC will be playing a large role in the story and I'm sure Hawke will be vital in stopping him completely. Especially since Hawke will now know, at this point, that the dude can body hop.

Hawke was only Viscount for a time, eventually Hawke left Kirkwall. We wont know why until DA:I when Hawke explains when asked.

I'm sure it has something to do with the Mage/Templar Conflict and what happened in Legacy.
