.....yeah I don't know why they let you buy dawn in amounts that aren't multiples of ten since I think you can only spend 10 at a time.

I'm trying to figure out a good name, but I am unfamiliar with Orlesian/French naming systems. Would the surname "de Serault" be appropriate following the first name for my Marquis?

It seems like a fun game, but I loathe the "free to play" stylings.  I'm also unhappy with how hard it is to raise any of your stats.  I've spent 50 clues just to raise my rulership six points.  To get anywhere, they're really forcing you to buy things with real money because, otherwise, you're going to be waiting a month to get a good ending.

its a week and you loose out on content by advancing the game quicker than real time

Agreed. I didn't realize you could only spend it in multiples of 10 when I bought 22. Now I have 2 left over that are useless to me. No way am I buying more in an effort to have the final total work out to a multiple of ten. Maybe they did that on purpose, though, to try to get people to do just that?

I would have happily paid a small amount of money to buy the game if there were no artificially imposed wait times involved. But a 'free' game that forces you to either stop playing for a while or pay to play is just frustrating. I'm disappointed in Bioware for allowing this, and Failbetter Games for creating it. (Although I'm not familiar with any other Failbetter games. Maybe they're all like this?)

All Failbetter games require a degree of patience to fully enjoy. Certainly the Silver Tree was so tedious that even I could not play through it, but I am hopeful that they have added more impetus to our time with Last Court.

You "might" be able to get a good ending in a week - the one that requires 50 trophies and what-have-you - but the game explicitly states that you get better endings if you have more.  To get something satisfying, it'll probably take a whole lot longer than that.

Anyway, I'm playing as the huntress.  I've taken on the abbess as my lover and made the pig farmer my accomplice.  I'm hoping to make the guildmistress my councillor and the dashing outlaw my bodyguard.  Sadly, my peril is 71 and my city's vital stats are all below 20.  Every other turn, my freedom falls to zero and I lose a card slot until I increase freedom again.

The game advances in real-time so you have a week to do it. Although you can restart that week at any time by abandoning the palythrough

How did you get the Abbess as your lover? I don't have that option, though I am a Scholar, so that may be why. It seems odd to me, though, that my only option for a lover is the Wayward Bard. Not that I mind.

I'm under the impression the Divine arrives once there are no market days left. I suspect that getting the 50 trophies is going to take me more than a few tries.

I appointed her as my councilor.  The next time I got her card, the lover option was there.  I think that might be a requirement, as the choice mentioned having spent time together at court.

Gosh darn it people, the writer posted on the last page that it was supposed to say 15 not 50. You do not need 50, 50 is major overkill. It is entirely possible to get 12+ items in a single day if you use your actions efficiently assuming your stats are high enough, so don't worry too much about the items at the moment, just focus on getting your stats up.

I think it's actually 15 trophies and not 50, but the more you have the better the ending will be.

Do you expect people to see everything?  You get defensive as if I should have known.  How is it my fault that the game made a blatant mistake?  And the person who posted the correction in this thread didn't have the BioWare staff designations so it's easy to overlook.  Stop it.

O_o Defensive? I think you are putting a bit more bite to what I wrote than I intended. Apologies, text is horrible for transmitting tone after all.

Anyone seen what's behind the Sealed Chantry? I have the authority to do it but I don't want to spend it if it's not worth it.

Well, I just got back from spending my first 20 or so points and I am enjoying myself. The game differs from Fallen London a bit, whereas the former was akin to a cheap beer you can guzzle quickly the Last Court is more akin to a good wine that must be slowly supped. Poetic allegory aside, the game is very good at immersing you in its setting and I love all the trouble I can get up to.

I began as a Scholar with an emphasis on Freedom but a province plagued by Revolutionaries, that way I can counter the latter with a high Freedom score to cushion any tyrannical blows. And my starting Rulership score ensures that most of my political decisions are successful, although I am sure to regret my low Derring-Do when trying to solve the bandit dilemma in Serault.

i dont really get this game. not sure what are the cards for.

The cards allow you to continue new actions, the points to commit said actions regenerate at 1 point every 20 minutes, and the goal is to navigate a series of strengths and weaknesses to amass resources, companions and skills all to ensure an optimal ending to the first seven weeks of your career as the ruler of an eccentric Orlesian province.

Cards can be used for important actions that help you personally or used for more simple things like gathering resources. Your ability score helps you succeed on actions, but you should never be afraid to chance a 50% or 60% success rate because it makes for interesting victories. Cards cannot be discarded, they must be used or avoided until you are interested or a new Market day has passed - after which the hand is cleared.

Well I don't know if I'd say it is worth it. I'd say that there are some interesting things in the Sealed Chantry. However other possibly being able to get some bags of royals, I don't think there are any mechanical benefits to going in there. The reason to go in there is more to learn about the Shame. Although it just occurred to me that you might be able to grind for stat boosts at the end of the events for the Sealed Chantry. At the very least I recall that there are several repeatable options at the end of the Sealed Chantry which cost 10 clues and increase a stat. I don't recall though if they cost any actions and how much of a stat increase they are....actually I don't think I chose the same option twice in that event so the stat boost may be one time only while the option is repeatable. I make no promises on that, so it is 100% possible that I am wrong on that. It is something that someone else should check out as once you finish the Sealed Chantry case you lose the card and access to those options.

So, how do I win this thing? I don't really get it.

Collect a total of at least 15 secrets, trophies, and viands before the Divine shows up after the last market day. Then earn her favor during the following feast using the collected items in order to return Serault to prosperity.

Upon deleting my first and second character, I was disappointed to learn my decisions had been recorded in the Keep. Does anyone think we'll be able to completely negate this effect in the future when the Keep/Tapestry is expanded? I hated the game and don't want it to affect my Keep at all.

Maybe? Although there is probably a default set up for the The Last Court just like every other game. I imagine the only thing that was saved so far was which of the two characters you selected.
