This game is incredibly grindy.  It is clearly designed for microtransactions.

Your stats are so up and down that you rarely feel like you make any progress. The amount of resources that I had to spend to do one successful hunt was ridiculous.

It also takes a lot of work to increase your stats (cunning, deering-do, etc.).  It appears that the old woman in the chantry can increase them, but you have to spend a lot of action points and clues just to get one additional point.

There is not enough here to keep me doing this.

Chose Scholar, but couldn't figure out how to play.  Got to just after the meeting with Morrigan then gave up.

Was boring.

I picked the Huntress. I haven't played the Scholar yet because I don't want to quit and start over... But I'm liking her so far.

I don't think it's possible to be GOOD at the game. It seems like everyone, including myself, it having a difficult time figuring out what the heck we're supposed to do in it. We have to get 50 trophies (I know you can also get 50 of something else, but I forget what)? How are you supposed to get trophies when it takes practically all of your resources AND you fail at everything over modest difficulty. I think the idea was good, but the implementation is horrible. It doesn't seem to have any fans. Especially not of the micro-transaction thing they've got going on. We're paying $60 at LEAST to get Inquisitions- they couldn't throw in a text based game for free?

They did. The microtransactions are 100% optional.

I was told that I needed 15 secrets, 15 trophies, and 15 viands for a successful meeting with the Divine at the end of the game.  So those seem to be the end goal.  The easiest (and resource-light) way to do this is to jack freedom, dignity, or prosperity up to 100, and then buy one by sacrificing half of that resource.  Repeat forever.

Anything else appears to be too complicated with too little feedback and not enough reward for the risk.

This is entire game seems to be a textbook case in poor learnability design.

That's not the point I'm making. They've designed the game so that unless you want to wait 7 hours to get a full deck of cards, you have to pay money. The whole Last Court game is a way for them to squeeze out a few extra dollars from us. Yes, you don't have to buy the Dawn, but if you don't you have to wait an entire day to do anything.

'Optional'. huh?  One either buys those damn points or wastes his\her time on the 'resting'. I can't possibly imagine a less attractive way to ask for my money.

Gosh guys do you really have nothing else to do during that time? Ya'll are making it sound so brutal. How about treating the game like a fun distraction? Checking in a few times a day instead of every 20 seconds? I can't take my own advice but the timegates don't seem to vex me as much as it seems it does some of you.

You literally said "We're paying $60 at LEAST to get Inquisitions- they couldn't throw in a text based game for free?", which is what I was responding to. Nobody knew about The Last Court until last week, so if you'd already pre-ordered DAI or were planning to buy it you were doing so thinking that DAI would be the only thing you were buying. Now you're saying that the Last Court isn't free enough

And since when is 7 hours an entire day ?

There is more after the 7 market days, right?

Would be kinda silly if the whole game lasts one week.

"In this epic game you rule a city, go hunting and face dangers like apostate maleficars! Your resources are many, and you will fall in love, hire a bodyguard - listen to your advisor as you forever change this Orlesian village by your rule"

"Oh btw this ALL happens in just one week"

The energy-gating mechanic is so infuriating because it invalidates the entire point of a text-based RPG.

If I am going to play a text-based RPG, it is because I want to explore the story, explore the different areas.  But all of the exploration options eat through  your actions quickly.  I had to burn almost 10 actions a day to figure out what was in the chantry.  I burned through another 10 on a single hunt.

On the other hand, just sitting in the manor managing my court, I can easily increase prosperity, dignity, and freedom, and trade that for other things using a lot less actions.  By making actions so precious, the game is encouraging me to be a shut-in.

It gets easier when start getting advisors and working at what you are good at. IF you take the more sucessful chances when hunting and stay out of the deeper woods it gets easier.

You need 50 all together. and it can be made up of all 3 of those.

What are all the Counsellors, Lovers, Accomplices, and Bodyguards?

I hired the Silent Hunter as a Bodyguard and I know the Dashing Outlaw can be one too.

I'm about to hire the Smilling Guildmistress as my Counsellor. The Kindly Knight is also an option. There's the Dowager and the Abbess. (almost forgot them).

I've heard the Wayward Bard is a Lover. (Is that it?)

And the Accomplices I know about so far is the Well-Read Pig-Farmer and the dwarven Purveyor of Teas (who I want to hire).

It only takes one action to fill your hand with three cards, and you can play all those cards before spending another action to fill your hand again. Best not to draw new cards before clearing your hand, as that's wasting actions. This isn't really a game you're meant to play for a few hours at a stretch. Rather it's a good way to pass 20 minutes or so, two or three times a day.

You only need 15 total between the three, although more can't hurt. And there are alternate ways to go about getting resources. Cases (which you can start to get during the second market day) pretty much bleed secrets. Hunting for trophies only takes 4 or 5 actions once you get your woods-wise up to about 50 (so in theory you can get nearly all the items you need in one day if you just hunt for them all).  Really the game is not hard, just get your stats up early and it makes everything else easier.

'Optional'. huh?  One either buys those damn points or wastes his\her time on the 'resting'. I can't possibly imagine a less attractive way to ask for my money.

You know you could spend 20 actions in the morning, spend 20 more over lunch, and then 20 more before you go to bed. Gets the majority of the points and you really aren't wasting your time by doing stuff in between playing.

Counselors- Smiling Guildmistress, Kindly Knight, Abbess, Dowager, Baron, and Dour Lordship

Bodyguard- Silent Hunter and Dashing Outlaw

Lover- Bard, Abbess(option is only available once she is your counselor)

Accomplice- Pig Farmer, Purveryor, Outlaw(Outlaw id bugged for one or both of her options)

You know, I prefer that it's me who decides when and how long should I play, not someone else.

That's why I hate BS:infinite's stupid check-point autosaves. And that's why I dislike the idea of having to wait for 7 hours  real-time before I'm allowed to continue. Today I want to play for an hour, tomorrow - for 15 minutes, and 2 days later I've got 2 hours to spare.  Or it may happen that I get bored on my first day.

But it's not up to some random guy to determine my schedule, not especially when it comes to a text-based browser-based adventure game.

If you're finding The Last Court hard (and it is!) here's some tips:

1) To start with, concentrate on acquiring some advisors: they give huge stat boosts.

2) Don't try and be good at everything! Prioritise one realm virtue and be prepared to sacrifice another to gain the resources you need to recruit advisors.

3) You can spend Clues on Visitor cards to increase your stats and realm virtues, and reduce menaces. You can also summon Visitors direct from the Summon card using Authority.

4) You will gain extra Secrets, Viands and Trophies from Market Day cards. Market Day cards can also unlock long-running storylines that will give you more rewards.

And one more thing: you only need about 15 Secrets, Viands and Trophies IN TOTAL for a decent shot at pleasing the Divine. There was a typo on an early card which said 50, for which I will be eternally regretful.

Sounds like this game just isn't for you then. And you don't have to play it if you aren't having any fun with it since it doesn't impact DAI at all.

PIcked huntress, I've gotten the guild mistress as my counselor, and the silent hunter as my bodyguard. I'm also completely broke.
