Went with a Scholar because I figured he'd make a more efficient ruler. I lost count of how many times I had to restart due to bad RNG rolls, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it...it's kind of fun, once you ignore the RNG. Has anyone figured out how to raise Rulership? I need Authority to get favors with people so I can get advisors/bodyguards AND THEN work on getting the trophies/viands/secrets with the boosted stats...but I can't seem to raise Rulership. I get laughed out everytime I hold court, and I'd rather keep what little Dignity I have, thanks.
Also I'm a little torn on who will BE my advisor. I've got the Abbess as a lover (lol I never fail at scholarship checks now) and I'm aiming at the Silent Hunter for a bodyguard, but no clue for that third spot. Someone who preferably raises Woods-wise (because I'm going to be spending a LOT of time in there) or Rulership would be best. Anyone know who?

You can spend clues to raise rulership with the Dowager. When you get Morrigan events some of the checks will raise your rulership slightly(one I remember is the one where she is looking up the Shame, but I think there is another one or two). Also the Pig-Farmer's favor event increases rulership slightly.
Dowager increases rulership for Counselors. I don't think there is an accomplice for rulership. Don't think any companions increase woods-wise so you will have to spend clues with the Silent Hunter to get it up. For accomplices, I think the Outlaw is bugged so your choices are the Pig-Farmer or the Purveyor. I personally like the Pig-Farmer more as favors for the Purveyor are more pricey in my opinion, but if you have the Abbess as a lover then the Purveyor may be a better choice since he gives cunning instead of scholarship.
Side note, I recommend against using authority to summon people unless you absolutely need them at that moment for some reason as you get considerably less return on the actions then you would get just spending two actions. I view summoning as being there for emergencies not for regular usage.

@Ranadiel: Thanks! I guess I'll go with the Purveyor for an accomplice--he's expensive, but it's better than having nothing and Dowager for a Counselor.
I can't seem to trigger Morrigan's events. I just keep getting the same old stuff when I draw from my deck. Or is that something I'll have to wait for another Markey Day for?

Recruiting the Smiling Guildmistress also boosts Rulership by 20.

Morrigan's come on their own like any other, they are just very rare. By far the rarest of anything. Out of 80 or so cards, I have only gotten her three times.

I got her twice in a row LOL. I got to ask about her family while she was watching kids pretending to be Grey Wardens. It was awesome. Not really, but as close to awesome as you can get with this kind of thing.

I'm really rather bad at this. My Dignity is okay, but my Prosperity and Freedom are dangerously low. I only have one trophy so far and not a single adviser.
How, exactly, do I gather Clues? I don't quite understand. Can I only do that during Market Days?

Something that might not be immediately apparent to players is that prosperity, dignity, and freedom are basically currencies. There doesn't seem to be a benefit to having them near max(50-70 range is enough to get really good or 100% rolls) aside from being able to do particularly expensive transactions. Likewise, I don't think there's any penalty for having them particularly low(aside from making a small handful of rolls more difficult).
Unlike twilight, peril, and revolution, they're not risk factors(or at least don't appear to be).
Generally rolls rely on the permanent character stats, rulership, scholarship, cunning, wood-wise, and derring-do. You gain clues by burning time(clues are very frequently free from cards without additional cost), and you gain prosperity, dignity, and freedom by trading back and forth between the currencies and risk factors(twilight, peril, and revolution).
Twilight, peril, and revolution have events that allow you to reduce them for "free"(time-cost of cards like clues), so unless they're particularly high, you can take additional risk on in exchange for more of a given currency.
Simple guidelines:
1.Use action points to gain clues and reduce peril, twilight, and revolution.
2.Trade peril, twilight, and revolution for more dignity, prosperity, and freedom.
3.Use dignity, prosperity, and freedom to gain stats, and items(royals, authority, trophies, secrets, favors, viandes)
4.Trade items for characters(counselors, lovers, bodyguards, accomplices) or to progress the story.
If you find yourself at any stage lacking for what you need to finish something(say a step 4 item) move back to the previous step(step 3 in this case).
Not sure if this was something that people already knew, but I hope someone finds it helpful.

Clues are really easy to get. Most events in the game have at least one option that can generate clues, and every NPC in the game can give you some (although the purveyor may increase rumors by ten....unfortunatly that is the easiest way to get rid of his card).
Don't worry about the trophies, clues, and viands right now. Secrets will come easily once you hit market day 2. Trophies are easy to get by hunting once you boost your stats up a bit.

Having your dignity as high as possible can help you regain authority quicker and same for prosperity and and bags of royals.

In some cases, having low of the good stats or high of the bad stats is desirable. There are some actions you can only take with them, for example...getting the Baron's favor requires low Freedom (lol what a jerk) and I know I saw one option only available at 100 Revolution (and it wasn't a "just get rid of revolution" one...there were other benefits too)
So yeah, keeping your stats mid level and adjusting them down and up as needed to access things is a good thing to me at least. Balance instead of min/max. ![]()

Can we get the Outlaw as a lover? I keep getting the Smiling Baron and the Pig Herder as cards when I can't really do anything with them ![]()
Struggling a bit tbh. Trying to get 5 of each Secret, Trophy and Viande but it's difficult. What's the easiest way to get Secrets? I'm okay with the other two, although spamming hunts is getting boring.

Note to self: Do not pursue career in politics, you're awful at it.
So, started as a scholar, and it's not going well for me. I've no resources, have hired nobody and all my dangers are in the high 30s, with my positives in the 10s. Failed my first hunt, on the other hand I have unlocked the door to the sealed chantry.
Tempted to restart, but it stings to waste the time I put in...

Went with scholar. Doing just fine so far.
Currently just rushing prosperity, freedom, and dignity to 100 asap then squashing them down to get the items I need for good ending. Probably about 1/5th of the way there so far. At least 50 in all my stats besides wood wise and derry do, but working on it, almost 50 with wood wise.
Silent Hunter as Bodyguard is so overpowered compared to the other cards... or at least it seems that way considering you no longer have to care about whispers (He's like the Dark Wolf) and gain dignity and clues with no cost to you.
Have Smiling Guildmistress as counselor and pig lady as accomplice. No lover at this time.

I was about to shoot a deer in the face but ran out of actions.
Do real life hunters have to wait 20 minutes before shooting a deer in the face? I think not.

I restarted a few times while I was learning....,it makes it way more enjoyable if you start off doing well when you have a lot of actions available, rather than trying to fix your mistakes when you have none left.

So step 3, trading freedom, dignity, and prosperity into items benefits from high items in the relevant currency.
Big question to me is what are the defeat conditions. Its apparent that risk factors don't simply cause a game-over once they hit 100, since there's events to reduce them by half from 100.
The two possibilities that occur to me are that high risk factors eventually trigger a game-over check where you have to roll based on a stat and see if you can avoid death/defeat(which suggests you could eventually make yourself immune to a risk factor by having high enough stats), or there are relatively little consequences to high risk factors(you can treat them exactly like the higher stage currencies).

Ah Morrigan ![]()
Morrigan on Orlesian Masks:
Morrigan does not play games Great or otherwise. The Orlesian nobility find it easier to commit intrigue while masked. It's a weakness and she commits her crimes barefaced.

I'm still deciding, what are the real gameplay differences between the two?
#148
Posté 08 novembre 2014 - 11:21
I can't tell any difference so far besides starting stats....so really it's if you want to favor Scholarship or Derring-Do (thats the Huntress one, yes?), and there's a third option that's available to both (Prosperity).
I also haven't played the Huntress yet, but since the game tells you every possible option, even if its locked out for you, and what the conditions on that option are, I don't think it's massive since I haven't seen any "Huntress" locked out options since the beginning.
..oh wait, I think you do get different options for your initial councilor? Mine were a choice between a +5 to Cunning or a +5 to Derring-do, what are the Huntresses?
