As someone who spared Anders after the events of DA2 I find myself wondering what has happened to him by DAI, I doubt he'd be alive really. Templars want him dead for obvious reasons and even some mages will want to kill him because he started all this. What're your thoughts?

It looks like he isn't in DAI since his voice actor has claimed he isn't in the game. I'm guessing he is either in deep hiding or dead from Justice.

I hope he's rotting in some alleyway in lowtown still.
I hope he's got his own rebellion going, could use the troops.

That really doesn't determine anything specially when his voice actor said that on very early years of development and his tone indicated he is not invited to voice for DA:I yet. Also he made quite a bit of teasing and trolling after that, like saying he is voicing for DA:I on April 1st and never denying or confirming anything.
I don't have much hopes but its too pessimistic to say that based on VA alone.

Well in my game he was suffering from a case of knife-in-ribs syndrome.
But, I figure since Bioware gave players the choice to kill him or not, even if he is a live his role can't be too significant.

My Anders is still on the run with my Hawke. He still has quite a while before his Calling. I don't expect him to perish before that.
If he's still alive, I think that it's already been said that Justice being in his head will delay or even negate his Calling. Like with Avernus, it's been what, 300 years? And he didn't have his because of Blood Magic. Who says that it won't have a similar result being fused with Justice if Anders can stay Anders

What's more important and what matters - he's dead in Bioware canon. That's why his role won't be important even if he's alive in DAI if spared.
Anyhow, I get the vibe that our LIs won't have significant role no matter who they are. I doubt we'll see any of them,at best - we can hear something.

What? in Bioware canon Hawke is a female mage who sided with mages and spared Anders.

Pretty much... I can understand wanting to do more with a character, but once you allow player agency into the mix you really shouldn't mess with it.

Since when?
In default keep state Hawke is a male, but a mage, yes.
And I remember the devs been saying that kiling Anders is basically what you should do. And also that "the rivalry path for him is better", and he's pretty much willing to kill himself in rivalry so...
I mean, I'd be thrilled to see him and whatnot, but my guess - it's not likely.

A lot of people are dead in Bioware canon, including the Warden. The default world is the one with the fewest callbacks to the previous games. That doesn't mean that people who are possibly dead won't show up.

Exactly, Found it very strange as in my first playthrough Leliana wasn't happy with how I handled the Urn of Sacred Ashes. When I got to DA2 I was surprised to see her killing resolutionists. Same thing happened with Wynne as well.

I picture him, if alive, he already lost what's left of his sanity

Ok, let me explain myself a little then.
There's one canon which is what we have in default keep.
And there's also the "devs canon" which they shared on twitter and other medias. Like, what they had in mind making characters do this and that, what they think is the best fate for a certain character and such. I find it more... "reliable" even if I don't agree with it, but we all know they're not likely to waste time and resources on someone they don't like or someone who played his role to the end. Like, they said they needed someone to do what Anders did in DA2, they tried to fit Velanna there but it didn't make sense for her character so they revived Anders just for the story's sake. He did the job, he's not important now and they can move on.

Right I messed it up with Origins, Hawke is male but Anders is alive and well in default world state for Inquisition.

Oh? Missed that since I always spare him in playthrough and in the Keep either way. ![]()
Maybe there's hope then.
