First of all I am super excited for Inquisition and it is coming up so soon! At the same time I am a little worried because I know it runs on Frostbite which is very hard to mod. Previous games were easier to mod, and the only reason I am speaking about this is because I am absolutely terrified of spiders! In DAO and DA2 (thanks to talented and amazing modders) I had an option of replacing spiders with deepstalkers and mabari. I heard that DAI will be very hard to mod, but is it indeed impossible?. I know the Inquisition didn't even come out yet, but I am already freaking out because I can't play the game with spiders, they absolutely terrify me. And I know a lot of people will just tell me to get over it, but I was wondering if it is impossible to mod, or is it just really hard and how many spiders are there really going to be in the game? I have seen the huge spider in one of the trailers and I was freaking out about that for the rest of the day, I totally didn't expect that. I would appreciate any comments and suggestions, thank you very much ![]()

Honestly, you probably won't be able to mod the spiders out, not for a long while at least, since this is a relatively new engine with no mod support at all. And there do appear to be a decent amount of spiders in underground areas of the game, caves and abandoned ruins and the like, though not nearly as many as there were in DA2.

Don't get your hopes up though. BF4 has been out for a year and has a larger community, yet the only mod available is the SweetFX mod which doesn't do anything that fantastic.

There was one a few days ago in Scuttlebutt.

I wonder if there'll be a conversation about phobias. Inquisitor: "So... is there anyone that frightens you?" Bull: "I hate weird ass, demons. You?" Inquisitor: "I'm afraid of spiders." Bull: "Uhh...?"

I'd recommend you get some exposure therapy before then.

Rats
Beetles

Mantis would be cool, I find them terrifying and hideous.

There is some confussion about modding and frostbite engine. If you want to add texture and add meshes into the game then YES that is hard and will take a faily long time before mods do that. HOWEVER you can often TWEAK hard to mod games relatively easy. I doubt it will take modders too long before they are able to figure out how to take the assets list (list of all the games assests and the textures & meshes used for the asset) and have the spider assest use the bear mesh and the bear textures. There by changing all the regular spiders into bears. This doesn't add textures or meshes you are using the ones the game already has.
This approach will not change "blinky" from the trailer and cut scenes might be problem. But its not as doom and gloom as some think.
This type of approach has a problem in that depending how the game packs files it might require users to unpack files, changing them and repack which means you'll have to make the changes yourself following instructions by people who are trailblazing DA:I modding vs going to website and downloading the finished mod.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the info, yeah I know the cut scenes might be a problem like with the giant spider, but it is good to know that the texture can be replaced even though it might be needed to be done manually

What have heard from some people who know these stuff better than I do: Battlefiel 4 that uses same engine doesn't have almost any mods and those that it has are just appearance, meaning changing colors and stuff. I wouldn't expect no spider-mod if I was you, I won't say it's impossible but highly unlikely.
Sadly it seems like there will be spiders. I have seen some dev tweets about spiders and there has been some in previous DA games : / In other hand some people who are afraid of spiders have said that they will use tactical mode only in fights against spiders so they don't have to watch them closely. Maybe that would help you?

Yeah actually tactical mode is my big hope, and I hope there will not be as many of them, and they won't be too detailed, but tactical mode will definitely be my savior

I had seen a similar topic on Shadow of Mordor's Wikia. Interesting.
And yeah... exposure therapy FTW. It's very effective.

Spiders are also present in multiplayer. One of the devs advised not to open doors if you are an arachnophobe during the last Twitch video.

I hate them as well, but I'm starting to be able to handle them in games. I'm just going to scream and fling about fire until everything is dead, lol.
Thank god Blinky is more like a giant alien crab; he doesn't scare me from the pictures I've seen.

Wow, that's going to suck for a completionist arachnophobe.
