@Mastic: Yes, the dead woman is Marjolaine. As for the program, I mentioned it in a post a few pages ago - for most of these fan arts, I use Photoshop CS3 for sketching/composition, Flash CS3 for final lineart/flat colors, and then Photoshop again for shading/backgrounds/etc.

@Amethyst: That's the magic of custom Photoshop brushes and fiddling with layer effects. :D As for shopping... For clothes, meh. But I needed some shirts for a volunteer job at the theater. If it was for DVDs/games/comics/books, then I would've been e static.

@Taiyama: I don't think my general skill as an artist has improved a ton in a short time (some, I'm sure, but not a lot), but I think I've gotten more comfortable drawing these characters and found some awesome techniques to use in the fan art.

Shading for the panels done:
Image IPB
All that's left is the background and combining it all with the montage/adding gutter lines. But I have to go watch Gran Turino/do a few chores now, so... If I get enough of my comic done while I'm away, I'll finish up the background and everything when I return.

'Tis done! Click to enlarge, because it's certainly too big for the boards.

Ah! Portrait change! Took me a moment to realize it was you, Amethyst! XD But thank you. I'm overall pleased with how it turned out. :D

@Amethyst: Have fun. :D I'm tempted to download Warden's Keep for my PC copy so my Legam play can have it done before Awakening (did it on the Xbox already, so I've been dragging my feet over buying it again), but I played him recently enough that I've got most of the choices I would want to carry over (if they do).

@Sisimka: Thanks. :D No one else has submitted anything yet, but the deadline's not until the 20th. I'm not really concerned about winning, though... I have no competitive streak. I just liked the concept of the contest and thought, "Why not?"

And now that it's done, I can finally work on my challenge to the Maker's Breath community.

Certainly, if it's a project you enjoy, that's what's important right?  It's the journey and all that.  I have to admire the fact that you were able to formulate an idea for the contest.  I read about it and thought... *echoing sound*

I'm looking forward to seeing how others interpret it also.

Well, I suppose you'd know better than I would.

@Sisimka: I think normally I'd draw a blank too, but I'm a huge Leliana fangirl and I'm still on a Dragon Age kick, sooo... It doesn't take much for me to think of the bard right now, heh. And I hope lots of others enter the contest too, because I'd like to see their works.

@Taiyama: Well, if you look at my non-Dragon Age artwork from the same time I started doing DA art, it's at a much higher level than my early fan arts. I think the earlier ones were also shaky because I drew them during a time I was busy/stressed/a bit burnt out on drawing, as I was graduating and had to put together an art gallery with several original works to graduate.

"Leliana never elaborates how badly she was tortured..."

Coincidentally, I've been trying to coax some answers about this in conversations with Leliana in my head. It bothers me ever so much more now that I'm traipsing through the Dead Trenches with--even worse--female main, icon at left.

(Let's just say I found Hespith.)

Cool comic montage, BTW. I really like how you've laid out a great deal of the process in addition to the result in this thread. I'm still poking around the beginning part, seem to be going backwards here. Good luck with the contest~! :)

Ah, the Deep Roads and the Broodmother... Nasty, nasty revelation, especially if you're a woman.

Thanks. :) I love seeing people's WIP, so sometimes I share mine for bigger works. People seem to enjoy them, so as long as it doesn't bore everyone else, I don't mind sharing the process behind my work.

Working on a piece for my Maker's Breath March challenge. I made a short video showing part of the coloring process for those of you who are curious about how I color. It only covers part of the flat color stage in Flash, as I haven't gotten to shading it yet.

The video can be found here. Currently it's on my own server, as I put music to it that YouTube would remove. And sorry for the small size/crappy quality... Still figuring out the settings on my video editor.

Keep in mind the video's sped up from real time by about... four fold, I think. If you have any questions about something specific in the video, feel free to ask. I'll try to answer without too much artsy-techno-babble.

I wish there was a hug option for Leliana after she tells you what happened to her :(

AH! The final drawing is here. Image IPB I really like how all the scenes play out.

And the nice hugging scene almost makes up for the torture scene.

And you have drawn it so quick. Are you a wizard or something? Image IPB

As I said, the video was sped up. Before I sped the play time up, it was about 20 minutes long, and that was just me inking/coloring Leliana.

EDIT: Managed to make the video size much bigger, though it's still a tad on the fuzzy size. Should be plenty clear enough to see what's going on, though.

Second video is up. This time I cover shading the characters. If you see a big white box, give it a few moments. Sometimes it takes a bit for Flash to show the video because it's preloading.

Third video is up, this time covering the backgrounds. I also finished the image itself:

Image IPB

This was done for March's challenge at Maker's Breath. There were several options, and I picked the "How do the Warden and Leliana react to being separated during The Awakening?" prompt.

I love the finished product up on the page. I'm glad you've taken so much time to get this stuff to look right. :D

Oh, I often fiddle with things forever, then I still catch mistakes later. Can't win. xD I still finish faster than a lot of people do. My brother couldn't believe it only took about 3 hours of work for that picture. It's just years of practice and getting comfortable with the programs to know where to find stuff quickly, I think.

Attempting a more realistic-styled portrait of Legam for kicks. Here's the WIP:

It's looking good! One thing I would watch out is the right ear and eye, they seem pretty big. I would actually recommend making the left eye bigger instead, as opposed to shrinking to the right eye. That's just my little critique for your WIP though, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done.

His ears are supposed to be big. Ask Taiyama. xD The eyes however, are still WIPs.
