Ugh, really not looking good. Restarted the computer again about ten minutes back, and it's STILL on the Windows screen (on an old laptop right now). I need to figure out which drive is the bad one and remove it. Grr...

.... Annnd now it's gone from bad to worse. Windows won't start up. >_< Trying to run a system repair from boot up, but so far it's still loading the repair options, and it's been a while. ARGH.

Sigh. Got Windows working again - the bad drive was causing problems. Took me a while to find out which drive it was and remove it. Put a new one in its place and am about to format and partition it. I'll keep the old drive for now, but I highly doubt I can recover the lost files. Looks like my fan art stuff from this year is all gone.

Oh, DR...I feel for you. My laptop died back before Christmas, and I thought I was going to lose a hell of a lot of writing. I had most of it backed up, but still. Not fun. It turned out that the hard drive was fine; it was the motherboard that bit it, so I didn't lose anything except the laptop.

Sigh. Thanks guys. It's not a total loss; was able to recover most of the finished art from online. Don't have the originals to edit, but at least I have the finished ones. Also grabbed the last three chapters of Seasons from here, as they weren't written yet as of my last backups. Better some than none.

I'm cautiously optimistic, because there ARE ways to recover files from a crashed drive. Looked up a few methods; best one to try involves uses the old drive as an external, which I know how to do. I just have to fish out a spare drive casing and use that. We'll see how that goes, but I won't keep my hopes up to be on the safe side.

Besides, I'll be out a good portion of the day, so I might not be able to work with the drive until late evening. Hope today's events pick up my mood more. I'm not as upset as I was last night, but I'm still pretty down. Usually I'm very good about backups - it's always the things I miss occasionally in backing up that seem to crash on me once in a while. Fate's a sadistic b*tch.

...That, or Legam's getting me back for all the crap I do to him. xD;

If he did I wouldn't blame him.  Instead of giving him a nice woman to live with you give him one who takes a sadistic delight in making him blush and calling him embarrasing nicknames.

Aw, but Leliana does plenty of nice things for him! She supports him in his myriad of troubles and stresses, makes him laugh, laughs at his jokes, tells him stories, buys shoes for him, loves to cuddle as much as he does (when his body isn't thinking other things, at least ), gives him confidence to pull through difficult choices and... other... nice... things I couldn't mention in polite company.

Appreciated, Taiyama, but I was able to save those from this topic. It's the original Photoshop files I've lost. That's mainly annoying to me because I frequently use elements of old fan art in new ones so I can get certain things like lighting and shading tones consistent, which I can't do without the original .psds. I do remember most, if not all of the techniques I used though, and I still have all my brush files and such, so it's not a total loss. Just very frustrating.

No luck so far with the data recovery methods. Going to put it aside for now and (try) not to worry about it. I'm going to bring the thread back on topic to what I was requesting before all the hard drive issues. I'll repeat it there for those who missed it:

Worrying about titles later (will probably do at least a temporary one
along the lines of Olwaye's suggestions if I need something soon), but
I have a list of short story ideas ready. However, I'm not sure which
to do first (I know, I know... I'm horribly indecisive lately, aren't
I?). So, I'm sharing the basic ideas with you guys to see what your
preferences are.

Keep in mind I'd likely have at least one
illustration to go with each story, and that I would like to do most,
if not all of these stories eventually; I just don't know which to do
first. Also please note that not all of these would be completely, if
at all, from a narrative favoring Legam's perspective, but they would
all involve him in some
way:

• Early life with parents in Denerim and/or how his magical ability was discovered
• Leliana's scars
• Battle at Ostagar and/or first trip into the Kocari Wilds
• Companion
  interactions - one of each (i.e. this is actually a sort of 10-in-1;
  what each companion thinks of/interacts with Legam. Like a brief
  situation with each that illustrates their dynamics)
• Return after Awakening
• The Harrowing
• Leliana and Zevran discussion (won't say more other than it's one of my less serious, amusing ideas)
• Gifts/shopping
• Finding dwarf!Jowan in the Deep Roads
• A short or two about d!Jowan and his relationship with his
  adoptive parents. Likely something light/humorous, possibly related to
  training/teaching or fooling around

[Taiyama]

I myself can't decide between Dwarf!Jowan's relationship with his adoptive parents and the early life in Denerim and finding of magical talent.

[Olwaye]

All my sympathy for your PC troubles and the loss of your art, the only thing I can do is send you there to cheer you up.

As for your list, early life will be one choice and Leliana/Zevran discussion will be the other (no surprise there I guess )

Thanks guys (and thanks for the Bright Side link, Olwaye - I love Life of Brian). I go to a local comic book store and taekwondo on Mondays, so I had fun/productive things to take my mind off the computer, and my mood's notably better. Still a bit down, but not as bad as last night or this morning. I might even be able to start writing something tomorrow.

So the current votes/opinions are for:

• Finding dwarf!Jowan in the Deep Roads - 1
• Dwarf!Jowan and interactions with Legam and Leliana -1
• Early life in Denerim - 2

Looks like things are pretty divided, save for the Early life in Denerim, so I might start there.

I go for Dwarf Jowan, have a more serious comic, Although I enjoy your comedy ones I believe you need to start making some emotional ones like Leliana's dream one. How bout some action?

These aren't for comics - they're for short stories in narrative format (like Seasons of Love) that will be on another topic; they will have accompanying illustrations, though. Dunno if that affects your vote at all, but I thought I should clarify.

Of course, I usually call pictures that have stories along side them Comics, somewhat like my Halo Clairvoyance story some what like your Seasons of Love story, each chapter gets an image to present it. I have been calling a thing like that comic since I was 11 and I made gigantic drawing books, 1 page a story the other the drawing to match it.



I have alot of words describing things a bit different. Just to let ya know.

I LOVE it for several reasons:

1. You can really see how green Legam's eyes are there.

2. Speaking of eyes, I don't think I've EVER seen his that wide. They're usually kinda squinted.

3. Leliana's right - he *does* have pretty eyelashes! *Snort*

4. His nose looks especially adorkable/amusing.

5. I didn't realize until this that there was an angle that could actually make his ears look small.



Also, I am currently writing the early age/magic discovery short story. I might break it into two parts; we'll see how it goes. Currently have about a page and a quarter written. Somewhat steady flow, but not completely "in the zone," as it were.

I went ahead and started a new topic for the Legam shorts with part 1 (of 2 or 3) of Legam's early life in Denerim. It's late and I haven't drawn the art for it yet, but I decided to go ahead and put the writing up anyhow. Will try to get art for it done tomorrow afternoon/evening.

It's tentatively titled "Laurel Leaves" (which will make sense by the end of the early Denerim shorts) and you can read it here.
