Well, you asked for my opinion so I'm here to give it.

Regarding a place that's good for contemplation, all of them seem equally good. So how about we use something similar to the scientific concept of parsimony--which is that when two explanations are presented, err on the side of the simpler one. In our case, how about using the one that makes the most sense or is simpler to get to? Because it seems very odd that they would treck all the way up to the tower of Fort Drakon. This leaves Lothering and the Sacred Ashes. The Sacred Ashes are also rather difficult to get to but you could explain that away by saying it was a pilgrimage to give thanks to the Maker or something. In the end, choosing between those two depends on what kind of feeling you're going for, in my opinion. If you want a reverie on the overall nature of things--what they've accomplished like ending the Blight and such--I'd go with the Sacred Ashes. If you want a reverie more focused on the individual relationship between Leliana and Legam, I'd go for Lothering where they first met. In the end, the choice is yours. That's just my two cents.

Normally I'd protest being called a "lady," but I keep referring to you as "sir" and I've already let it slide several times, so... I guess you get a free pass, ha. Lucky you.

Back to writing! Whoo! Might sneak some Zevran and Benjamin (Mabari dog) shenanigans in here...

Ahaha, my apologies. I'll stop if you truly want me to but it's just how I was raised. I was raised to be a southern gentleman and it's just habit to refer to women as "ladies", hold doors open for them, etc. I don't mind being called sir at all--I've barely even noticed it.

Zevran and Mabari shenanigans are always great. "I agree. Go team!" Dog is the mascot for the Grey Wardens and Zevran is the cheerleader (I have this hilarious mental image of him in a high school cheerleading outfit--skirt, pom-poms, and all.)

No need for an apology, I was mostly teasing (I know, it's hard to tell that with just text). It doesn't actually bother me with people online, since they don't know me in person. It's not that my "feminist pride" or some such drivel is offended by it; I just hate being called a lady because I define a lady as someone who's far more outwardly feminine and refined than I am - so I basically find the term inaccurate in my case. I wear t-shirts and jeans and stick my hand in the waistband of my pants when watching TV/sometimes at the computer. A dainty dame I ain't. XD

And I have no problem with having doors held open for me. Hell, I do it too, because I was raised that it's just a polite thing to do. Sometimes I'll hold a door open for several minutes because I feel bad leaving it open for some people and then closing it on laggers.

.... *Gigglesnort* I already have a laundry list of fan arts I want to draw soon, don't tempt me with more. XD

I see. Well, my definition of a lady is pretty much "anyone with two x chromosomes who isn't immoral or a criminal in some way."

Yeah, I'll do that sometimes as well.

DO IT.

Yeah, definitions get muddled like that, depending on perspective. That's why I don't really hold it against people online/strangers/etc. I only jump on my family and close friends' cases, since they know me well enough to know how I see the term. But I will take it as a compliment that your impression of me falls under your definition of "lady." I certainly don't have a criminal record, but I suppose "immoral" depends on perspective again. I think I'm pretty moral, but I'm sure there are people who would disagree based on some of my outlooks. Eh, again, a lot of it's perspective.

Have you ever been late to something because of it? I almost have a few times.

Nuuuuuuuuuuuuu.... Too much to dooooooooo.... :<

Well, by "immoral" I mean really immoral. Kicking puppies, stealing candy from orphans, being cruel to people all the time, etc.

Can't say I have because another thing that was drilled into me from a young age was a respect for punctuality. My grandpa has a saying, "It doesn't matter if it's by thirty minutes or one minute, late is late." and that's passed down. If I'm in a hurry, I'll normally hold the door until another guy comes up and then I let him catch the door and go on my way.

DOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIITTTTTT...

Yeah, that ain't me. I'm stubborn, but I hate being mean to people/animals. For the most part, I'm "live and let live so long as you're not hurting anyone/thing" Ugh. That sounds far more hippie-ish than it really is for me. Bah.

I'm usually early/on time - I leave early for things because something always happens to slow me down. My dad's pretty punctual too. I wouldn't say I'm perfect with it, but I'm rarely late to something. The door thing's only cut it close when the door was close to my destination.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. D:

I need to go to bed in a few minutes, but here's another teaser from what I've been working on for the past hour or so:

Legam turned to her, snapping and pointing his fingers as if remembering a long-forgotten detail, “And that brings about my final reason. We–”

Whatever the former Warden intended to say next never came, for a startled squirrel dashed underneath the mage’s robes, breaking him out of his thoughts. “What–”

Again nature interrupted the mage. Likely pursuing the fleeing squirrel, Benjamin bounded into the clearing, plowing straight into the back of Legam’s legs. Knocked off his feet, the Rivaini man fell forward, slamming into the side of the hill.

Leliana tried to pull him back up, but momentum kept him moving out of her reach. She cringed, biting her lip as she watched the mage tumble downhill, crashing through brambles and underbrush until he finally came to a stop at the bottom. The bard covered her mouth with her hands, horrified.

Realizing what happened, Benjamin flattened his ears, whining apologetically as he followed the Orlesian’s gaze to spot Legam’s curled up form dozens of feet below them.

Biting her lip, concerned, Leliana broke the awkward silence, “Legam… Are you all right?”

A low, painful groan responded from below. “Bad… Dog…” It wheezed – pained, but otherwise intact, “Very… bad… dog…” Benjamin whined dejectedly in response, while Leliana put a hand to her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.

~*~*~

Poor Legam. I couldn't resist some physical comedy in this.

Hm... This might actually beat out Chapter 8 for the longest chapter. I'm almost at 3,000 words, yet I still have a bit in this scene to do, and I still have 2-3 more scenes to write. Damn. Well, I guess that's what happens when I squish an overview of certain moments over many years into one chapter.

Oooh, that sounds painful just reading that. Poor Legam. Also, what do you mean by "former" Warden? What I gathered from the game is that no matter what you may WANT to do, you can't just stop being a Warden--which, coincidentally, is what Taiyama says to Alistair when he claims he's going to quit being a Warden in response to Loghain's recruitment.

You can never technically stop being a Warden, but you can leave the order, so you're not "officially" a Warden. That's what Legam does, once he's finished helping them rebuild/settle in Ferelden. He'll still fight darkspawn if he comes across them/do the Calling when it's his time, but he leaves the order in any official capacity. He never intended to stay with them after the Blight was over, but decided to remain a bit longer so they could regain their footing in Ferelden. He doesn't hate the Wardens by any means - he just doesn't want to be one. Never did, never really will.

Ah, I see. For Taiyama, I try to have him have learned something from each of his companions. What he learns from Sten is the importance of duty above all things. Doing one's duty regardless of what one personally wants to do is part of being a man, in my humble opinion, and since the story doubles as Taiyama's "coming of age story" then he has to learn those kinds of lessons. He never wanted to be a Warden either but he spends the rest of his brief life with the Wardens because he believes that's his duty.

Blargh, I can't not start yapping on about our respective characters, can I? Sorry.

Nah, as I told you on DA, I like comparing our two mages. :D

Legam takes duty seriously, but with the Blight gone and (I'm going to assume for the moment) the issues of the Awakening passed, he figures his duty to his country is more important than his duty to the Wardens. He still aids them from time to time, but he doesn't serve them in any official capacity. Legam spends most of him time helping Alistair with ruling, rebuilding Denerim (and the rest of Ferelden), and helping the alienage elves better their lot in life. He's hardly slacking off - he's just focusing on issues aside from darkspawn.

Hehe the next thing I could see the dog doing is making a chew toy out of a mage's staff and causing all sorts of trouble with it lol. *lubs puppies*

Benjamin's done that before, much to Legam's chagrin. :D But the Mabari's smart enough to not do that after causing the poor guy to fall off a hill.

I don't think that would work, though. Pretty sure you need to be a mage to get the magic to work. I don't think the staffs really have magic themselves - they just better channel a mage's natural magic.

Yeah, it would be fun to see, but I'm generally a lore geek and I try to stick within the confines of a setting's laws. As an absurd/impossible image it's fun, though. :D
