ok, so i read many of your posts about a lack off faith in Ubisoft as well as any new AC game. and i COMPLETELY understand. but let me be a super swell, nice guy, devil's advocate and try and talk you in to trying out AC Unity at some point, granted no need now that we're almost 3//4 days away from DAI...
it is the first AC game they have spent more than 1 year working on for the 1st time in, oh prob since AC1 and AC2.
it really has simplified and reinvented parts of the wheel to make the game somewhat fresh.
yes it is having major tech issues on the consoles as of right now, not sure how it is on PC, but on PS4 i have bumped in to non threatening bugs at least one every 2 hours. some as small as people walking in the street and having half of their bodies "submerged" under the street. (happened as soon as i took control of Arno in the first few mins...) and a couple of issues climbing, but no big crashes or game ending bugs for me.
the game has new features that should have been introduced no less than 2 games ago (AC3), the major one is now holding Right Trigger and "circle on PS4" or " "B on XB1" controller allows a much necessary fast decent no matter how high your are on a building.
the city is enormous, in size//exploration wise, but also its the first time the game is an actual real life 1:1 scale!!!
you may ask what does this matter, and let me tell you, when you scale to the top for your first tall building, and look out across paris, you will be ion awe!!! which seemingly goes on forever, like skyrim, and you can go to about 75% of what you see (which is a ton believe me) but it does have to have a boundary.
the game has an awesome new system that allows for literally HUNDREDS of NPCs on the screen at once. why care? because skulking about matters again like it did in AC1!!! and there are some incredible scenes where someone is giving a speech and you are pushing through a crowd of 300 to get to your target, and then you can use that to your advantage once you've made your kill and quickly disappear back into that same crowd and make your way out of the search radius.
another thing is i feel Ubi really got the cops n robbers chase mechanic down perfect in this game!!!
its loads of fun for me to get in trouble and fight and then try to escape. and every assassin-y thing you do you get a sort of XP for...
made an escape? 100 creed points...
killed a dipshit from a rooftop? 11 creed points.
made a kill while in hiding? chris hardwick says "POINTS!!!"
not to mention there are 4 different currency systems!!!
one of them being the "creed" points previously noted. as well as your reg money, you get skill points from doing your missions which can in turn be used to buy skills from 4 diff skill paths. and theres a fourth currency i'm not sure what it does yet.
and i will try and finish up here but the coolest aspect is your weapon/gear system. its kinda like fable in that you buy stuff where/whenever you are, and each item immediately will look different on your character!!!
theres 1 handed weapons, swords daggers etc
theres 2 handed weapon, hammers glaives, pikes etc,
theres pistols,
theres rifles!!!
and each selection has 5 to 20 diff weapons to pick from about 50/60 all told!!!
same with your garb//armor, each piece does something diff for your stats, allowing you to tweak your own personal Arno any way you like for visuals and stats.
tweak him to be a super powerful co-op ally and give him great healing skills!!!
or focus on taking care of yourself and max out weapon damage and health!!!!
really, if you can put up with some rough early polish, the game has really been adjusted and recreated in a way i feel its worth jumping into the next gen experience...
really didnt mean to write such a big unruly review, but i'm bored waiting for DAI, and there it is.
cheers.
