I managed to limit myself to watching just enough to get a handle on the Inquisitor's voice. I like the 'american' voice but it's so deep. I'm kinda worried about how it'll sound coming from an elf's mouth as it sounds more like the deep rumble of a dwarf or qunari.

Yeah, I doubt it will suit an elf. I don't think it suited Joe's human at all, like you said it sounds more suited for a qunari or dwarf.
But! If you like it, you should try it out anyway.

I believe the english voice is the the default for human and elf, while the american voice is the default for dwarf and qunari.

In what way?
is this party based tactical game more like a sci-fi shooter? I don't think so.
Do you mean like conversations?

This videdo makes me fear mages. I always play mages- I love magic.. but in this game, they seemed to buff up the other classes (move and shoot arrows, cool warrior abilities, rogues stepping through people), and this game, mages just look like a standstill turret

Baldur's Gate series, Xcom
X-Com is a turn-based tactical game set in the near future. Kinda hard to replicate in a semi-open world fantasy game. And by having played it a lot, I can say you do use tank and spank-ish tactics, sending Heavies, Assaults and Mecs Troopers in heavy cover with armor first. Unless you like having your Supports/Snipers be gibbed in 1 round by Mutons.
And Baldur's Gate, really? The game where 90% of the combat was composed of having your mage break whichever protection spell your enemy had, then right-clicking on them with your rogues/fighters? Such tactics, much deep strategy. And unless you enjoyed sending in your mages that have a third of a fighter's HP, you still use the same basic philosophy. The end boss of DA:I's tutorial alone demands (unless you like wiping like Joe) you move out of its attacks, use abilities to increase your defenses, use potions when wounded, and keep the PC alive to distrupt the rift, while keeping your heavy hitting attacks for when the Demon is stunned and takes extra damage. How is this not tactical is beyond me, this is isn't Starcraft, it's an RPG.

to be fair, it's a level 1 mage so it's not going to be all that exciting or throwing out fun awesome powerful spells.

I have been debating between Dalish archer, mage, or dual-wielder. This video made it clear, archery. Thanks Angry Joe

Loving John Curry as the Inquisitor. Fits perfectly for a dwarf or qunari and even the human in this case.
Deep and resonant. All worries about him sounding like Aladdin and ruining my badass qunari dreams are gone!

Such a shame Leliana won't get to show off her archery skills (or does she?).
Bow actions seem pretty sweet.
Leliana will show off her bow skills at the end of Arc 1 of DAI Main Story when you're escaping with her from Redcliff Castle.

Not the same thing, not even remotely, of course you send your heavier armoured assault troops in first to probe the unexplored areas but usually the idea is that you try to avoid damage altogether by having your troops cover each other.

Actually no, you forgot to ward your fighters/rogues against fear and now they are too busy running in circles attacking each other to follow your orders, while I would love to explain to you all the nuances of the Baldur's Gate series combat and ruleset I am afraid there is not enough room in one post to do so.

What you have described is your stock standard video game boss encounter, avoid attacks (or in this case Tank grabs aggro while squishier team mates move out of harm's way), maintain your party's health, attack weakspot, then attack boss while stunned, rinse and repeat. Hate to break it to ya bud but that is what most in MMO circles would call "tank and spank", the only minor complication here are the rift that can be used to stun the boss and the easily dealt with adds.

....he liked that it popped up "X approves" without a number (enough to make a note that it occurs at least).
I'm also glad they went this direction.

I fell of my chair laughing and facepalming when dear Joe realized he should have used health potions lol
As for American voice actor for males it is not bad at all but it's not voice I would give to human and elf Inquisitor that's for sure...that voice is more for dwarfs and Qunaris in my opinion at least.

Do explain to me the nuances of a game I beat three times on Hard while having less difficulty than Origins on Nightmare or even friggin DA2 on Hard. Baldur's gate"s only real difficulty is in not knowing the various abilities and arbitrary protections that enemies get. Once you get past that, the game has almost no tactics required beyond siccing your fighters on the enemies that aren't immune to their weapons. That's when you can't just clear an entire room with 1-2 spells with all the ridiculously broken stuff mages get.
Also, since this is level 2 combat we saw, played by a guy who doesn't use tactics, I'm really not sure what you expected. Combat in the AD&D ruleset is also boring as **** until levels 5-6 at least, when your mages start getting half decent spells. Other classes never gain tactics beyond ''hit thing with other thing'' until 20th level, but you know, at least they hit more often so we can call it a True RPG I suppose.

They showed a twitch stream for multiplayer the other day, and they were playing as a mage. While the first person played it as a more stationary, buffing turret, the other two players used the character in a much more aggressive fashion. The mage had some situational AOE attacks and some fairly damaging single target spells and the ability to teleport around the room, in a manner not too different from the Vanguards from Mass Effect.
If that demo was any indication, you should be able to make a mage that can play on offense, which is defiantly the more fun way to go. ![]()

The thing that makes me mad about AJ is he claims he's a big fan of Dragon Age. He was confused as to why people had French accents. He doesn't seem to know a lot of the lore. But I do know he's played the games. He's reviewed both Origins and II.

I think it's possible to be a fan of a game without being familiar with the lore. Pretty sure half the people I went to college with that played Halo didn't know much about the background/setting.

In what way?
More actiony. Player triggered attacks, for instance. I do recall something like mages had to hold down a button to spam their regular attack, for example.
