Now that I'm on PC, I think they deserve another go, and just maybe, I can bring the pain train.
Which vanguards are the best?

Unless you play against Geth ones that can dodge

Asariguard is probably my single most played kit. Yes, even amongst the asari and I play them all quite a lot.
Spec her out of Stasis, give her your best grenade gear and play against Cerberus. Listen to the screaming as you quite literally rip through their ranks.
I mostly play her with Eviscerator, though she works great with Piranha as well. In a pinch, even Katana and Scimitar work well enough. But that's from scrub's point of view. The master like you are will want nothing less than Claymore.

Assguard without Stasis can't really do anything Drellguard can't do, and Drellguard does it better. Stasis is what makes the kit unique and enables it to stand out on its own. For this reason 6/6/6/x/y is the way to go.
Also, I recommend a weapon that's capable at medium-long range. Lift Grenades are better than Cluster Grenades at range and Stasis is good at range, so this is again something that separates the kit from the Drellguard and makes Assguard the better kit in certain situations including Hack Circles and Escorts. Assguard is one of the two kits I regularly use the Harrier on.

1. Drellguard
2. Smashguard
3. invalid
I exclusively use the Talon on the Smashguard, but on the Drellguard I've used the Hurricane, Scorpion, Claymoar, Acolyte and Talon all with good results, when I'm not using the Venom
. Have fun out there, and don't forget Bonus Charge.
You probably already knew that though...

And he is the ONLY vanguard that can detonate biotic explosions on all protections. Actually, he is the only vanguard that can reliably self detonate combos without ammo on all protections.
Then there's the drellguard. Playing him really keeps you on your toes. A good example of glass cannon.
My third pick would be cabal with a poison strike focused build. Awesome mobility, interesting power set and good melee. The only teleporting character I can stand.

I tried her with Stasis... she was pretty lame, to tell the truth. I tried her without Stasis... she became my all around favourite. Yeah, Stasis may be somewhat of her signature power(does anybody beside her adept sister and volus adept have it anyway?), but to me, it's pretty damn useless. Not saying I have it right, but that's the way I roll her and I enjoy her greatly.
Also, drellgod may be better at everything. I just happen to like sexy blue space chick better than a freak in trench coat
Once again, personal preference.

On host vanguard is one of the two best classes in the game, and by far the most fun for me.
The best Vanguard is hands down the DrellGod. Once you get the hang on him... You won't look back. As someone once perfectly described it around here, playing a Drellguard pretty much feels like being a heat seeking missile yourself.
Then there's the Slayer, the unkillable shield killing machine. Amazingly fun, and second best thing in the game after the DrellGod and on par with the Fury. If only it had a speed bonus, it'd be perfect.
Novaguard is great fun and the very definition of in-yo-face tank. If you pair him with some primers you're gonna roflstomp anything. If you don't... You're still gonna roflstomp anything, if you know how to play him.
Assguard can be great too, but I don't like her much.
Cabal is awesome, but can be somewhat hard to play the right way due to her dodge being **** at times (london anyone?).
Smashguard is great I hear... But it's another kit I never got the hang of. One of the few I regret not doing so, though.

The Krogan use a more practical approach. We learn to enjoy life at the vanguard first, and learn how to become immortal cheat (with Biotic Charge) second.

Nothing wrong playing her the way you like to play, of course, and I also used to spec out of Stasis a couple of years ago.
Stasis is a somewhat situational power, and very often in situations where it could be used to great effect you can equally well simply charge in and grenade. But my point is that it offers alternative ways to handle situations that make Assguard a unique kit with its own playstyle and flavour that no other kit can replicate. And sometimes Stasis is the best way to handle the situation.
Also, having Stasis available and carrying a longer range weapon makes Assguard less lag-dependent than many other vanguards, because you more tools at your disposal than just charge-grenade. She makes a pretty good biotic soldier while still being reasonably effective. (She's still squishy, of course.)
Also, drellgod may be better at everything. I just happen to like sexy blue space chick better than a freak in trench coat
Once again, personal preference.
Now that I can appreciate! ![]()

Only use BC if you are host. As client you'll die too often due to power simply not working half the time.

I've been playing around with the Slayer the last couple of days. It's a beast.I've went with a full-on power build that pretty much calls for no gun(unless you get the bee's)..Just BC,PD blast with as many as needed(usually no more than 3 on shielded mooks),rinse and repeat.I'm still playing around with the armor and gear equipment, but think I've got it close. Ummm, I still love the plain old human female vanguard.
What?! She's the queen of gold or easier! Highest score erryday, never dying erryday.
Take only a pistol for 200% skill recharge, and then: charge, pause a fraction of a second, nova, charge, nova, charge, nova, charge, nova. You're practically invincible. Close proximity to three phantoms and a pair of dragoons? Still no problem! Charge, nova, charge, nova, etc.
Your biggest threats are ravagers, cerberus turrets and critters (swarms etc). And explosions that stop you looping, naturally.
Edit: Having said all that, I am two years out of date and don't have access to any of the other vanguards at the moment. Only the new engineers and infiltrators so far...

They're all great besides the volus, but I have a weakness for the Slayer. Using 3 powers in a row (since PD hasn't a cooldown) is especially fun.
The Novaguard is a more close range version of the Slayer. He's very fun too, but more repetitive.
The Smashguard has the unique ability to detonate his own biotic explosions against all defenses. The bonus power evo at rank 6 of Biotic Charge is a must on him.
The Drellguard and asariguard are great killing machines too, their grenades do a ton of damage after a Biotic Charge.
The two tanks (krogan and batarian) are less fun for me but you can turn them into melee monsters if you like that.
The Cabal is probably the easiest to play, very versatile and without real weakness. Due to her great passives, you can play her like a soldier if you're not in the mood to use a lot Poison Strike.
The volus has poor offensive abilities but he's surprisingly durable with all the DR and invincibility frames he gets with Shield Boost, Biotic Charge and his cloak.

The krogan vanguard was my main back then when I played called gave him some purple color armor with black splinters along with some yellow lights. Ridley was his name.
I'm more a soldier type, but vanguards tend to be the other class I used most due to the whole barrier recharge formula.

Smashguard - Pure power damage. My favourite vanguard. TheNightSlasher already got this one covered. I use him with Talon. His melee is also quite nice.
Drellguard - Cannon ball on speed... or space tiger depending on what colours/ pattern combination you put on him
Squishy but not so much when played right. Venom + grenade spam + adrenaline mod III is how I always use him ![]()
Slayer - Another fun class. You can PD off the ground and wall and can still hit the enemies.
Cabal - I play her more like a weapon class because of her stability bonus. Use PS and dodge to get out of line of fire. Her melee is also really good when specced right but quite host dependent.
