So in Lady Insanity's video about her experience with 6 hours of gameplay (which is super informative and interesting, i recommend it):

She mentions that now mages arent integral to a party and any combanition is feasible, giving as an example, a 4 warrior party, which is apparently viable with the new mechaniques.

I personnally am in love with the mages of Inquisition, Vivienne the ice queen, Dorian the dashing sassy Tevinter mage, Solas the elven nomad who can relive old memories. I must have them in my party, but im planning on running a Qunari mage myself. I'm thinking, for my tastes, these characters will provide the most interesting insight and banter, and with my PC, im gonna have a good balance of race diversity and social backgrounds in the party.

So, what do you guys think..... 4 mage party. U need to be willing to give up some loot and some locked areas since u wont have a rogue but u can always come back to it i guess if its important to you.

Also, the devs said armors wouldnt have class restrictions, so it might be pssible to make a Really heavy armor with magic bonuses to make Vivienne wear, since she's a knight enchanter and could do as an off tank?

What do you think?

Are there other unconventional party combinations you're going to try?

Not sure why everyone is watching these vids; walk into Inquisition blind. You'll thank me later.

As for party configurations, I'm going with the people who aren't going to second guess my every move.

I hope that Cass surprises me, but she won't. Vivienne has the stomach for what I require, Varric is reasonable, not sold on the bull but I can work on him.....I'll drag the others along on a "paragon" playthrough.

You'd miss out on ALL locked chests and doors, and you would also lose access to all areas with a warrior or rogue required for entrance. Generally a 4-of-the-same party shouldn't be done on the first playthrough imo, since there is too much to miss. For a second or thrid playthrough though, go nuts. Hell you can even go solo then.

This is why the lockpicking perk etc. shouldn't be class specific. The restriction it places on your party composition isn't worth it.

With the locks/bridge/door bash thing you're pretty much obliged to take a 2-1-1 party.

Four mages don't look that fun to me personally. Especially since their animations have been slowed down. And the spells we've seen, especially at the beginning, don't look that amazing to make a four mage party worth it. At least warriors and rogues can have two weapon sets. I personally can't bear the thought of missing loot and hidden stuff because I don't have a certain class in my party :P

I say "it's your game, you play it how you want." If you want to play with 4 mages, you go right ahead. Just be sure to save beforehand. If it doesn't work out, no loss, just reload. If it does, then great, you know it works and can try out the kinks. If losing a little loot doesn't bother you, have at it.

That makes me happy, I was trying to figure out who to take for my Rogue playthrough and figured I wanted a mostly warrior and rogue team. This will make it a lot of fun now that I don't need to keep the normal one-two mage/rogue/warrior setup I usually use.

I might actually go 4 warriors in, but i know theres going to be that one opponent with a mechanic that completely screws that strategy over, same with 4 of any other class

Two's a party, three's a crowd, and four's a mob. I don't care that much for locked chests an doors, in the previous games the loot from them were useless to my mage. I wouldn't have a problem running all mages however it's not going to be easy. The enemies have more health, armor, resistance and abilities to kill mages so easily. Plus, mages are nerf'd an we don't fully know how solas, dorian, an vivienne will interact with each other.
