I am curious as to why you say that.
because bioware is about choice, they aren't going to break the point of choice where you're some linear Spartacus that topples an empire the game becomes a straight line, I mean what are the other issue you can give player agency to? they can't up heave the mageocrisy without destroying what makes Tevinter truly unique. there's no known issues with the imperial chantry and any citizen's being repressed as a result. the issue that's divisive is slavery. but being Spartacus limits your choices.
Unless you can choose to side with the slaves or against them. a AAA video game which is already attacked by every media person with an agenda already attacks allowing you to side with slavery as an idea not some pissy little slavers for monies but the idea that slavery can be sided with?
I can't see any company wanting that reputation in one of their best selling IP's.
so if you remove slavery before the player arrives destabilise the country as a result. Have the overall plot stopping the qunari, You now have agency on what faction end's up in charge of Tevinter and other side plots such as houses warring and have the ones that want to bring back slavery as the domestic bad guys that you have to defeat to unite the country against the invasion.
you get your flow and feel of a bioware game (specifically a DA game) with your choices and decisions whilst avoiding the biggest controversial issue with setting a game there.
just makes sense to me, i don't see how the game can address the slave problem without the player being able to side with it, And that to me is a bridge too far even for bioware. remove it before the game takes place and you not only avoid the issue it sets up the instability you need to fix. But no matter what they aren't going to remove the one thing that makes tevinter truly unique mages being the ones in charge. it would make tevinter just as bland as any other nation.
I mean honestly if fereldon wasn't the setting of the first game would anyone care?
did anyone really care about kirkwall? it was bland.
but orlais? it has the chantry's base and beautiful shifting landscapes. it has the intrigue of the game and the problem with the elven rebel's
its unique, Tevinters Uniqueness far more then slavery is attached firmly to the Magisters decadence. without that it's just old.
