Is it me or did Edi feel kind of underpowered as a squad member?

  • She works best against Geth since Energy Drain will detonate tech combos on synthetics; against organics, Energy Drain will not detonate tech combos... except when it does occasionally.

Don't you get a tech burst when you ED a shielded target followed up by a detonator? I am pretty sure you do. (You left out her usefulness against Cat6)

I spec both mine and Tali's Sabotage for Duration, Explosive Hack and Berserk. It counteracts somewhat long cooldown for her and makes me use it only on synthetics as intended. Nothing beats seeing a turret destroying an Atlas :) Energy Drain primes targets for tech bursts (not sure if every target, or only the shielded ones), in combination with Garrus/EDI she can be lethal. Defense Drone... I only specced recently, to have something to stagger husks if they come too close.

Javik is one of the most useful squadmates IMO. Large bonus to shield recharge speed, self-sustained (can both prime and detonate biotic combos), Lift Grenades are very useful in combination with Dark Channel. Here is EDI + Javik

Yes, but I am talking about using Energy Drain as the detonator, not the primer.

Her usefulness against CAT6 is questionable. She can remove the Omni Shields from the CAT6 Heavies, but does not seem quite capable of completely stripping the shields off the CAT6 enemies.

I missed the part about detonating. I am pretty much used to using team mates as primers, not detonators. Garrus and Ashley are my detonator squad mates, everyone else is a primer.

The thing was a waste of a squadmate. I'd rather have an ME2 squadmate. It was better as a hologram. The only reason the hologram was given a platform was to promote the green ending and to make the clown happy.

I've only used it a few times on missions. I'd like to know how medigel can heal a robot.

"The thing" hehe. I always use her for eye candy and input. It's interesting to see an AI mingle with others. I also wanted EDI to see the guts and glory in person wooo yea

Have to be honest, I generally chose squadmates for story / preference reasons, not how effective they are.

Same here. What they contributed in dialogue and story always mattered to me more than combat. Besides, Shepard is stupid powerful and can take most enemies alone anyhow, even on higher difficulties.

When considering EDI's new mobile platform, keep in mind that the unit she took over appeared to suffer from some severe performance defects. ;)

I love EDI as a squadmate. Helpful as hell against Cerberus/Reapers. I wish she didn't spam that damn decoy on my position though it makes me a target once it's down.

I never spec it, or the defense matrix. Poor EDI's got some wasted skill points in my games.

EDI is one of my favorite squadmates. Not my number one, but she is in my top three. She is not overpowered, but she is also not underpowered. I think the weakest squadmate is Tali. I do not like her wearing a bathensuit into battle so I always put her in her black, dark blue-ish outfit.

Yeah, I don't use Decoy either.

Defense Matrix I'll wait till last (if at all) and have 21 points spare to spec into Power Synergy and Reduce Power Speed Penalty.  That way I'm not adding to her power recharge speed too much.

But on the whole I don't mind EDI. She's not the best, but I prefer her to some others.

I don't mind it tbh just when she puts it on me, not so bad if i'm about to swap positions, I didn't use DM at first but I found her going down too easily without it.

I just don't like the cooldown penalty, not for squaddies. Shep can offset it with weapon loadouts and other bonuses. I find the decoy kinda distracting myself, especially if it's initially out of my FOV. I'm all, "EDI, the hell are you doing out there? ...Oh wait."

I always assign squadmate power usage to manual then use the control pad (on consoles) to initiate powers.

I do that for insanity runs and on ME1. It makes it a lot easier to control the battlefield.

If you spec EDI for both Defense Matrix and Decoy she's surprisingly tanky.  The long cooldowns don't bother me too much, since I typically just have my squadmates open with their priming powers, detonate them, and then Shep mops up the rest.  Don't need any cooldowns until the next fight.

That said, I typically choose my squadmates for story reasons rather than combat reasons.

Ugh, ME1 Insanity. I definitely controlled squadmates' actions in that game. If you didn't micromanage it took about 11 times longer to kill any organic enemy.

I only went to hardcore on ME1 can't deal with those one hit rocket drones I'd end up breaking a window, I've heard people complain ammo mods don't do anything but shredder rounds still make a difference on that level with slower weapons. Also can't deal with squadmate cooldowns on ME1 no matter what the difficulty I need to be in charge or it's immunity's and wasted throws everywhere and I wind up using adrenaline boost more than anything else.

It's funny since EDI is one of the most powerful (broken even) characters in multiplayer. I should start a new SP and check her out, but I don't remember using her much.

I've done an Iceman Infiltrator run and EDI was one of my frequent squad mates.

Used her Overload and Incinerate to strip shields/barriers and armor, then shot enemies to freeze them.

Or freeze an enemy and use her Incinerate for a Cryo Explosion.

My other squad mate was Kaidan with Cryo Blast and Overload.

In the beginning of the game, when Kaidan was injured I used Garrus with Cryo Ammo Concussion Shot and Overload.

I never found EDI to be underpowered myself. The only reason she remained benched a lot was because I preferred certain squad members for the main story missions (Garrus, Liara and Javik), and it just seemed right to have Kaidan or Ashley back in action once he or she returned to the Normandy, and I tossed up between James, Garrus and Kaidan for all N7 missions.

I think the ME3 squad was pretty balanced. ME1 had overpowered biotics and in ME2 some of the squad members were clearly underpowered (Jack, Jacob), overpowered (Miranda) or overly specialized (Tali). But ME3? I don't think any squaddie was overpowered or underpowered. I took Liara absolutely everywhere and then rotated the second spot with James, EDI, Garrus and Ashley/Kaidan.

I would like to use her more but the slow power recharge and no AR weapon choice ruins it for me.  To top it off she always insists using decoy right where I am at forcing me out of cover so I can actually see what I need to shoot at.  I even find her dialog on missions lacking though I do like to bring her when I recruit Javik for the lol's

She has two quite interesting exchanges with Javik during the Citadel Coup mission. Here is a link to the second one. The quality is lacking though, I'll get a better version when I get there with my trilogy Engineer

James specced for weapon damage + N7 Typhoon. I don't need any other squadmates around.

I remember how today he took off 3 consecutive Guardians on Eden Prime. I chuckled a bit on that :D
