Is it me or did Edi feel kind of underpowered as a squad member?

James specced for weapon damage + N7 Typhoon. I don't need any other squadmates around.

I remember how today he took off 3 consecutive Guardians on Eden Prime. I chuckled a bit on that :D

Same weapon on Garrus and Ash destroy all as well.  Even Kaiden and Javik rock with it.

To top it off she always insists using decoy right where I am at forcing me out of cover so I can actually see what I need to shoot at.

Uh... why are you even speccing into Decoy?

And it sounds like you have squadmate power use set to auto? Squadmate power usage is always best left to manual control.

Sometimes squad powers are irrelevant, I swap it around depending on what mission it is. Cerberus base for example, I can roll right over the lot of them without having to pause and give orders. Grissom academy I need the control, it's all personal preference.

EDI will be in the next game as an upgraded platform.

I have spoken.

On my Engineer I was bored one day, so I respecced EDI for Decoy and had one of those crazy minion spawn parties with Tali.

That was pretty fun.

Yeah but then I tend to forget altogether so I turn it on.  I spec into decoy because I have spare points and I just can't stop myself from spending them.  Besides I don't have issues with Garrus, James, Liara, or Javik with squad power on.

I have to order them behind cover sometimes when they charge into the open against a half-dozen husks armed with a sniper rifle -- lookin' at you, "archangel" -- but other than that, nope I just let them do their thing.

That depends on what difficulty you play on. Ashley and James do well no matter what, but with the others I have to babysit them. At times, I just let them get "killed" and finish the mission myself.

The reason is for me a rolepaying element of leaving them as distinct people who act on their own volition.
If I order them around like a puppet then they seem less real to me.
I know for example if I take ash and tali, tali will run forward with her shotgun like a lunatic and end up needing revival whilst ash stays at the back and blows things apart.

That's just the way I like it, your mileage may vary.

It's not just Garrus, Liara takes cover in awful places. Tali does well for me I don't find myself reviving her much but I do place up close myself so I might be drawing most of the fire.

Liara's easily the weakest. When it comes to biotics, both Javik and Kaidan are better characters because they are stronger, and extra detonations don't matter if you've already mopped up the enemy (considering they can both use Typhoons, it's pretty easy).

Mostly, people like her for her waifu-ness. Tali's situational, she's not really good once she joins permanently, but Liara's inferior all of the time. Once you don't need her anymore, you've got the other three. Once Kaidan comes back (or even Ashley, she gets the Typhoon), there's no need for the waifu

The weakest squadmate is Liara

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Well... she is one quarter krogan...

She even gets "killed" by a little ole husk. Hit 3 times and she's down for the count.

The squad AI was pretty bad in all three games.

I tend to rotate most of my squadmates in and out and EDI is a decent squadmate IMO. Some of her ambient banter during missions are actually pretty funny too. That being said, I do think Liara and Garrus were probably the most combat effective combo for my Shepard.

Name a squadmate with less health, even when she has her class power fully evolved for health and shields. Asari are so squishy

Her health is low because she's a caster type of character, a caster always relies on their powers and Liara has one of the best skillsets in the game. It's like complaining that your mages in Dragon Age are squishy.

EDI is a caster, Javik is a caster, Tali is a caster, Kaidan is a caster - all tougher

On higher difficulties I find that squadmates are only really useful for combos so those that can prime or detonate the quickest are the best, and that would be Liara. She'd be overpowered like hell if you'd give her more health too.

True. However, with that low health I spend half the time reviving her. I prefer Javik for biotic squadmate. Javik + Kaidan is one of the best squadmate combos IMO.

I also don't like playing biotics, so Liara kinda loses some of her usefulness for me. The main reason I don't use her is squishiness though, she dies too much. Squadmate AI is sometimes stupid, but other squadmates can get away with it. Liara can't

Played it today. Aria is broken as hell :D

She's the best caster of them all though. Properly utilized I find her health is a non-issue because enemies die too fast or they prioritize shooting Shepard. And the times she does die her health is irrelevant -- like Banshee grabs or deer-in-headlights AI moments.

Ever seen a Banshee trying to grab James with class power and Fortification fully evolved for health/shields and damage reduction? She hits him about two times before finally impaling. That's if he's cornered. If not he simply backs down and recovers his shields. I never seen him impaled :D For Javik and Kaidan she hits them once and then impales. For Liara - spawn close=impaling. I cursed my choice at Priority Earth countless times on my first run...

Her Singularity is arguably the best crowd control power in the game, but I'd rather have squadmates that I can leave to fight on their own.

One thing I find curious about Liara's health. If you look at her base value, which is about 260, then switch places with 2 & 6 and that's near the base health of all the other squadmates. I always wondered if that was actually a mistake, and didn't ever get fixed.
