Anora is the best ruler between the two. I can take Alistair serious enough to give him the throne.

Considering who this guy was, I'd say that killing Loghain is more of a matter of justice rather than vengeance.

Even the "We need more wardens" argument doesn't hold weight since just about anyone else would due.

the wardens take the worst of the worst and you know it and it's irrelevant whether he deserved to die for his crimes, alistar doesn't care about justice his motives are clearly revenge.

You recruit soldiers, not meat shield. Quality over quantity. Loghain is valuable as a warden because of his skills, not because they need more number. Otherwise, they could just randomly give the cup to any random villager to turn them into warden.

Not bloody likely.

Alistair hardened was my choice, my Warden wanted to be a just a Warden & until they let elves sit on a throne, my Warden is fine with being the Heroine of Fereldan.

Anora can to go hell.

The novels which are canon and even the comics are all on Alistair's side. Anora is not a bad ruler, but Alistair is simply better specially when hardened (mentioned in epilogue)

Hardened Alistair is obviously better than unharden Alistair because he takes his duties a bit more seriously and studies governance...but compared with Anora, I wouldn't say he's portrayed as the better ruler in the epilogue.

Alistair
“In the months that followed his coronation, Alistair surprised many by studying the art of governance and doing his best to rule the kingdom with a fair and even hand. He proved quite popular with the people, his humor and easy grace winning them over as much as his willingness to sneak out of the castle and mingle in the lower-class taverns on occasion.”

Anora
“In the months that followed her coronation, Anora proved herself an adept ruler. Trade agreements with other lands quickly brought new funds into the royal coffers, and with them, the queen saw the capital rebuilt. The army was restored, laws were passed to encourage freeholders to produce sufficient harvests, and plans were conceived for a university.”

I have Anora as sole ruler, best fit for the game, Alistar just isn't suited

Anora was ruler for my first playthrough with a city elf.  I regretted it as in the prologue, she'd been tougher on the elves than I would have liked, in spite of originally granting me the boon of a bann for the Alienage.   For my 2nd playthrough with a human mage, Alistair was king with Anora imprisoned in the tower.  That bugged badly for the prologue as it had the impression I was King Alistair's  mistress in spite of the fact I rejected him and fully romanced Leliana.  For the 3rd one I played human noble and ruled jointly with Alistair.

Loghain is far past his prime and this past year has demonstrated that his tactical and strategic ability are lacking. Not to mention that anything at this point indicates that Loghain is even trustworthy.

In short, a better warden could be found elsewhere in a non-contrived world. Someone like Sir Cathrien, Jowan or any of the other knights would make a better candidate for a warden. There's other factors about Loghain's "recruitment" scenario that are so contrived that they break down the merit of recruiting Loghain. (Clearly, Riordan only wants more wardens in order to stop the Archdemon. But why not say something about that tidbit of info to Alistair and the Warden in Eamon's estate?)

In-universe, recruiting Loghain isn't worthy losing Alistair from multiple perspectives particularly capabilities.

I married Alistair to Anora so that she could still be queen, but I do have a world state setup where Anora is the sole ruler.

I'm still wondering what I should do with my first playthrough...have Anora as sole queen or married to Alistair? I wonder which option would give us the most Anora. Probably the former. But I don't really want to kick Alistair to the curb and make him a drunk or have Loghain live. :|

Executed Alistair and have my Warden and Anora jointly ruling, or just Anora.

I had Alistair executed, Anora on the throne, and Loghain impregnate Morrigan for the dark ritual.

Majority of my games ended (or will end up) with Anora & Alistair ruling jointly, but I did have one (okay, technically two, but I like to ignore my first playthrough due to things) where Anora is sole ruler. If I remember right, having Alistair on throne is better for elves if epilogue slides is to be trusted.

Alistair is also better for mages, or I guess so. David Gaider said to not expect anything less from Anora than we would of her father. I think them ruling together is perfect.

Anora is an even more pathetic whiny brat. Throughout the series there are few characters as spoiled and self-entitled as Anora. Which is why it's so much fun to crush her dreams.

Don't you worry, that is why I am King, not Anora.  I will cover for her womanly nature

Except that Alistair proves to be a very competent choice. Like Drasa said, if he's not hardened he's a popular and stands for the people, if he's hardened he becomes competent and popular.

Nonsense, it's impossible that Alistair will prove popular or competent.  Just not realistic or believable

For me I usually choose Anora + Cousland, although I have chosen Anora + Alistair a few times.

I always found Anora power hungry. She will betray anytime it benefits her.Cold, calculating,& power hungry are the last thing Ferelden needs. At least with an Hardened Alistair he gets a backbone & rules like a King should.
