There's never any definite number, only suggested over a billion. Just the same, the logistics gets funkier when it must be considered that at some point, there were only a handful of reapers, possibly just one to start, before the Catalyst conjured up the idea of mass relays in the first place.

You're right, it isn't definite. That is still a billion years. Have to figure the Leviathan's are even older than that, as well. They already had quite a bit space mapped out, apparently. Even if they only started making the relays half way through their existence that still leaves a ridiculous amount of time for them to link everything together. The logistics are only 'funky' when you view it from our limited perspective as short-lived organics. Reaper's are timeless beings. Nothing is impractical to beings that exist for eternity. Their suggested life span seems reasonable enough, imo, to conclude they've already had enough time to map out the galaxy. Though that's just my opinion.

The Leviathans or the Reapers? I'm not sure which you mean but it's reasonable to think that the mass relays could've been a Leviathan invention and they already had quite a lot set up before they shot themselves in the foot (tentacle?) with the Catalyst.

The reapers. The leviathan of dis was estimated to be around a billion years old, if I recall correctly. Remember the leviathan of dis is not to be confused with the leviathans. The leviathan of dis was a reaper the batarians found.

Also I believe, running off pure memory here, that the Leviathan's said the Mass Relays were created by the intelligence to speed up the harvest cycles. The reapers tell Shepard this in the first game as well too.

What if in the next Mass Effect a new race is introduced, and they possess the technology equal to that of a hyperdrive. They have no need for... lets say... a Relay that slingshots you to another area. They would see that as a rudimentary way of traveling.

The leviathan of dis causes all sorts of issues, all from a throwaway line that probably sounded cool when it was written.

Still as vague as ever.

By the time next year rolls around, it will have been three years since ME3 came out. The fact that they're only showing extremely vague concept art right now does not inspire confidence.

Don't know about that. I'm always happy when things aren't rushed.

"Not rushed" is not, in any way, equivalent to "two and a half years of work and no visuals shown."

I think they don't want to draw attention away from DA:I. I think after that game is released and it falls out of the media cycle we'll get much more information about the game.

Hopefully you're right.

I don't regard two and a half years as much time. Mind you I agree that the DA:I concentration is the most likely thing.

Just as well. BioWare game hypes are like a platter of cookies out in the open in front of me. I know I shouldn't eat them but I do anyway.

Our scientists have dated it back to over a billion years.

Jesus, that's far out man. What method did you use to test it?

Who cares? Isn't it hella wicked?

I honestly think it was initially just supposed to be a Farscape reference.

If a video game takes less than two years to create then I will have my doubts on how good it is; if it takes longer than two years then I will start to be more optimistic about it. Plus, let them be a little cryptic. Why ruin the surprise?
