I definetly dont believe that it takes 85 hours...there must be some sort of time wasting in that number. I finished DAO/A in about 35 hours with most stuff completed and DA2 in about 13-14 which were alot less then the normal estimates.
That said id still be happy in 30 hours of MAIN STORY.
Your "most stuff completed" was very far way from being as complete as you think with those times.
Regardless of whether or not that is story with side missions, or just the story that is still quite a decent amount of time. Additionally this does not consider the replay value across each race each time with different choice each time.
More than long enough, rushed playthrough or not.
If people can't get their monies worth from 80 plus hours of content I don't know what's wrong with you people...

More like 400 hours +
With a minimum of 2 completionist playthroughs or 3-5 playthroughs where atleast one of them are completionistic, then I'd say 400+ hours of entertainment is a more likely estimate.
Thats 0.3 dollar per hour for "only" spending 250 hours on DA:I.
Sounds good!
And yeah...if you finished DA2 in 13 hours with "most stuff completed" you're lying, and you missed around 15 hours of content. The game was easily 30 hours with most stuff completed...and another 3-4 with the DLC...
I think in one of the videos either Mike Laidlaw or Cameron Lee had said they had something like 200+ hours because of the side quests, crafting and other things. That'll be like my play through. I intend on milking it for everything it's worth. I never shoot for trophies or 100%, but I'm sure I'll just spend time learning about every aspect and area of the game.
85 hours is nice but I can see me putting in 120+ with 1 character. From the looks of it the game should run equal or even more than Fallout NV and I have 130 in vanilla New Vegas. Shoot I can see 20+ just messing around in Skyhold decorating and depending on how often you find good materials to craft another 10+ just in the crafting menus.
Needless to say Inquisition will more than make up for all the time I've spent lurking the forums ![]()
I read somewhere that ALL of the side-quests and the main plot combined is about 200 hours total, give or take. I may not do all of the side quests, but even if I do half, that's a LOT of game time. If the plot line itself adds up to 85-100 hours, and I do half of the optional quests, I'll have 150 hours. If I play 3 hours a day that'll be... almost two months of game time.
I'll be playing a lot more than 3 hours a day whenever I can, but that's still A LOT. AND I LOVE IT.
That tweet is vague and really doesn't say much.
We don't know where 85 hours fits in the formula. Average? Quick? Slow? Literally dozens of variables when you don't give enough context.
85 hours really means nothing, you can complete 100% of DAO in 18 if you skip dialogue
all depends i've heard 40-50-60 hours before the mainstay from bioware seems to be 50 hours. and 150 hours for side quests still i wouldn't be surprised if some "speed runner" did the game in 20 hours and as always they ****** about the length despite skipping 90% content and not knowing anything about the game.
Still too short I fear.
If I play 10-15 hours a day then according to this I will be done in only a week
I hope you don't sit for that long (seriously), that can lead to serious issues (like DVT), make sure you get up and walk around at least every hour.

But the dialog is the best part! ![]()
I wonder how much of those 85 hours were spent collecting Inquisition Power needed to unlock new story mission.
I wanna gud long game, at least 100 hours of core content but I don't wanna be bothered with playin any of those boring sidequests.
I'm sure we'll be able to play significantly longer than 80-ish hours if we want to. The game doesn't end after the main story ends, for one, and there's tons of side-content.
This is an unpopular view, but I'd rather ave a tight forty-hour game with no padding than 80-200 with padding. DAO was about forty hours, a little over fifty with all expansions. BG1 doesn't feel much longer, though I've no way to check. My fear is that 1) much of the length comes from fetch, collection, and other such quests and 2) the mere thought of a replay will seem daunting.
I think it's still possible to rocket through the main story if you want. Definitely a lot of that time is filler, but that's only because they had to put something in those huge levels or we'd be exploring for no real reason like in Final Fantasy 12 (BLEGH
). You might have to do some of the exploring and fluff (aka you need 4 power to go to the next big story point from the Hinterlands, apparently), but you don't have to do it all.
It's important to note that they said "the story". This implies they focused on the main quests.
So they probably did not bother with non-trivial sidequests and disregarded lore-related objects and random discussions. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't tinker with crafting and played on Casual or Normal.
Some devs who did a completionist playthrough said it took them 100+ hours.
In any case, 85 hours is a damn good deal.
I think you are misreading the tweet
He most likely said he was done with "the story" after 85 hrs. because saying he "finished the game" is kinda vague and could mean different things to different players.

I understand your concern and agree that too much padding will not be a good thing. I do however like at least some sense of exploration of things not related to the main quest (Hey! I stumbled on a cave, leads to a tomb, that has a quest and storyline all of it's own, no related to main quest). Skyrim and those games went overboard to the point that you totally lost focus on the main quest.
