all depends i've heard 40-50-60 hours before the mainstay from bioware seems to be 50 hours. and 150 hours for side quests still i wouldn't be surprised if some "speed runner" did the game in 20 hours and as always they ****** about the length despite skipping 90% content and not knowing anything about the game.

Why would a speedrunner complain about a game not being long enough? They'd want the game to turn out to be much shorter using skips/glitches, so that single segment runs aren't massive marathon commitments. A game that takes 20 hours to beat would be an absolutely awful speedrun to pick up

At least it'd probably be a pretty easy thing to get the world record in, due to lack of competition

This is an unpopular view, but I'd rather ave a tight forty-hour game with no padding than 80-200 with padding. DAO was about forty hours, a little over fifty with all expansions. BG1 doesn't feel much longer, though I've no way to check. My fear is that 1) much of the length comes from fetch, collection, and other such quests and 2) the mere thought of a replay will seem daunting.

To be honest I agree with you. I am a time poor gamer and if this wasn't Dragon Age I probably wouldn't consider playing a game that was over 80 hours in length. I can fit in at least 3 good sized games in that time.

Still it IS Dragon Age so I'm sol.

I have seriously considered just doing Mp until I can get a a week to myself (once a year) and mainlining Red Bull to get me through the game on minimum sleep.

It makes my heart warm when devs put time in their game. This game will keep me occupied for a long, long time coming.

Unlike other AAA games that last a grand total of 15 hours...and yet reviewers say it is the BEST GAME EVAH.

I do not like the argument quality vs quantity.

You can have both your morons! And unless proven otherwise, DAI is a shining example for that.

Skip the fetch quests? That's what I do in DA2 replays.

DAO being ~40 hours for you is also about half what I did, so I'm thinking Inquisition might be 60-80 max for you.

Totally agree myself, quality over quantity.

Not that I don't think DAI won't deliver on the quality, but the obsession with length alone that some people have is one I've never understood.

As for this thread, I don't doubt those numbers include some side stuff too. It's fine with me either way, all I care is for the damn thing to be good, however long or short it is.

Pfft, if a 15 hour game is more memorable than a 50 hour one, I'll sing its praises over the long one.

And yes we can have both, but if we aren't gonna have both, I'll take quality myself.

I can probably add at least half again onto that, at least the first time through. Like to go sightseeing and poking around all the nooks and crannies :) Fine by me, I've no need to sit down and finish the game as soon as possible.

the people complaining/upset that it is only 85 hrs and not 150 make me sick.

What do yuou expect.. The indistry is a 10-20 hr norm. You're getting 50-100 (85) hrs for $70. that is less than $1/hr..

I can't even turn my air conditioning on for a week for that. getting any trivial work done on my car costs double that at least. vacation costs $1100 for a week. food for a week is double that. a movie is $10 for an hour and a half. an escort is probably $200/hr. A concert is $150 for 2 hrs.

85 hrs for $70 is an unnaturally good deal. 85h for $70 is my dream game. I doubt it'll be 85 though. I'd be happy with 40 main story. DA:O took me 80 the first time. 40-ish now.

I hope you don't sit for that long (seriously), that can lead to serious issues (like DVT), make sure you get up and walk around at least every hour.

i sit all day @ work and then i come home and sit. :'(

I agree jtav. It just will depend on whether or not you *have* to play a ton of side content to finish the story. Since doing that seems to unlock power, I can't tell if it will be required or not, hahha.

Well, double it for me. I am the kind of person who sucks literally at mazes and puzzles. First time I played origin I was about 5 hours on that gauntlet puzzle... And over 15 in the fade since I don't understood what to do... I'm just the kind of completionist that sucks at games for the same time. So I expect 100h just for main story for me...

I would be cautious about having such high expectations.

So, so true.

I only recently beat Kingdoms of Amalur which I started over 6 months ago because I got so, so frustrated with the game and its endless faction and fetch-quests which I guess were supposed to be "world-building" but which just turned the game into a bore and made me put the game aside many times only to pick it up again later. The combat is great, true, but when it's the only thing you do and the only thing you uncover by finishing the quests is other people's personal bull**** the game becomes a chore really quickly.

By the time I finished the story campaign, I had logged about 70+ hours on the game and my quest-log had over 110 finished quests (and I still had loads left over). The amount of those which were story-missions? 20, tops, and I'm being generous here.

The sad part is that there was actually a pretty interesting elements in the story campaign, but all the padding and running around took so much away from that and the experience in general. I just hope that doesn't happen in DA:I. I take quality over quantity any day, even if it means the game itself is a bit shorter for it.

killer is , no one even mention replay values  , with da:I having multiple endings and side plots. & for those as myself who loved MP in ME3, can't wait to try that as well in DA:I .

An amazingly well put together 15 hour game is far more memorable than a super long game that's artificially inflated. TLoU will stick with me far longer than some 100+ hour RPGs I've played.

Also, the tweet that inspired this thread indicated nothing about the quality of those 85 hours. To play devil's advocate, how do you know that those were an enjoyable 85 hours? For all we know, it could have been "took 85 hours to beat....but man was it painful to get through." I don't think DA:I will be a bad game, but to sing it's praises simply because it's reported to be long (and put down on shorter games) is a very odd mindset.

The "obsession" with length is simply an attachment one develops with the current character they're playing.

I put a lot of effort into making my characters feel alive as it tremendously improves the gameplay experience for me.

Granted this is subjective, but I think "obsession" is too strong a word :)

Heh, I just played through the game in a weekend using the Origin free trial thing, skipping most of the side quests to get it done in time. Probably the best way to play it

I've actually recommended to a few people that they only play the main story missions and the faction side quests. You get the best stories in the game and you're not quite as god-like by the time the end comes around. All of them really enjoyed the game by skipping all the tedious side quests.

Alas, I learned my lesson too late.

Also I'm a bit of a completionist by heart which meant that the game was rigged against me from the start.

I just recently stopped playing KoA.  Too many pointless side quests got me bored of the game.  I had to put it down so I wasn't worn out with sidequests by the time DA:I came out.

Hehe you're right. Anyway, I'm looking at these possibilities:

1. It's really long (because I'm suck at games & puzzles). I found a printscreen of that ocularium puzzle and tried to do that on paper, took me about half an hour when people were talking about a few minutes.

2. It's finally not that long (yay! less frustration)

In any case it'll be really great, long or not...

I hate puzzles. I just google them because I'd rather do a list of 1,000,000 things before spending my time on a puzzle. (hence why I hated darksiders 2)

I love thinking so puzzles are always fun unless it's like the one in parasite eve 2 trying to figure out the pass code for the computer that was a pain in the rear

DAO for me on my first playthrough was likely a little over 20 hrs. Mainly because I didn't do that many side quests and had actual homework to do. I can see it being a 40 hr game if you catch your breath.Hell I did most of the DLC including the expansion in less than a week. It really depends on whether or not you have a good idea of what to do instead of screwing around like most gamers. Both playstyles are valid though.

There is absolutely no way that inquisition main story would be that long ...

I guess main story is about 20-25h at best the rest is wondering around seeing the world testing things and doing xp/gold quests ...

Well with the huge wait times between lines from characters it definitely seems to be around 85 hours. I swear, you could fly from New York to Los Angeles and still have some time to spare between the lines they say.
