I ignore all reviews on games like this. In my experience the only review that matters is my own.

I agree, but reviews are good to go back to, after you've played the game and find the reviewer that has preferences in games that align with your own.

Edit: Looks like the game is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, everything's coming up Milhouse.  ^_^

Also, a lot of people will be looking at reviews to decide whether to buy.  I fondly call it the EA factor.

That attitude doesn't work for people who use reviews to tell if they want to buy the game, which is the main purpose of reviews.

Of ocurse i'll be playing the game regardless and form my own thought about the game but this topic can be really handy since i want to know how DA: I does in reviews so i can keep track of what's going to happen to one of my favorite franchises because like it or not the reviews will have an impact on the sales of the game

so thanks or the topic

In my experience, they don't 99% of the time. Hell I see too many reviews that seem to be either paid for by competitors or just half arsed cause all of their "comments" make absolutely no sense/make it appear the reviewer didn't even play the game. I see this way too often. So I take all reviews with a grain of salt.

Reviews have their place for other products, but the games press is rather shady at the best of times. I have been burned by game reviews far more often than the game itself.

I have always adopted the policy of rent first when I am not sure if I should buy a game or not. That way my curiosity is satisfied and my wallet isnt so angry at me if the game sucks.

Although on games like Inquisition where I have followed it since the start I don't feel the need since I know regardless of any flaws I'm still probably going to enjoy the game, unless its completely unplayable due to glitches and things of that nature.

I trust Angry Joe.  And then,..  mmm,... eh...    Hmm.

But it doesn't matter, because I'll buy and play this game anyway. That's settled in stone.

I trust Angry Joe.

I don't trust anyone that says they give an "honest" opinion about movies or games. Most of the time "honest" reviews are just hipster bash threads on cool movies or games.

I trust a well presented article/video about the movie/game. A lot of them always try to put things on instead of just being a reporter or a reviewer.

So then Angry Joe. Aside from a 30-60 second skit here and there, his reviews are 30+ minutes long.

The same reviewers that gave Mass Effect 3 75 perfect scores?  Lawl good luck.

Also keep in mind the reviewers that actually told it like it was when it came to Mass Effect 3 did so after the forums exploded in hatred, they jumped on the bandwagon to get more hits on their youtube.  If fans loved the ending of Mass Effect 3, I can guarantee they would have well.

ME3's great; shame about the original ending but it deserves the love otherwise.

Thanks for the thread, EP.

Good thread. My purchase doesn't depend on reviews, but I'll be interested to read them nonetheless.

Also, @Avejajed - yeah, me too, they've really worked hard on this, I hope they're rewarded for it with a well-received, successful game. Fingers crossed, eh? x

I haven't seen that much of his reviews because he is very loud and in your face, but length doesn't always mean well-presented. Something that is long can resemble a piece of writing where the author doesn't know where they are going with what they are doing.

Succinct is good too.

Joe is a great reviewer he plays a part sure, but Joe is a gamer at his core and his criticism is usually spot on. He cares about the games he reviews and generally when they're bad he talks about what devs can do to fox it and doesn't outright trash things. (Ride to Hell being the exception)Say what you will about Joe's personality, but he works damn hard and cares a lot about his work.

I'm so hungry for the next chapter in the dragon age universe that even if the price doubled AND all reviewers butchered the game I'd still buy it with zero hesitation.

My thoughts exactly. I've said this before but when I first watched angry joe I thought he was more an entertainer than a good reviewer. But he is refreshingly honest about the games he reviews. If he doesent like something, he says so bluntly and honestly with actual suggestions to make it better, and when he praises something he almost always hits the spot as to telling what is good and why. Angry Joe is IMO really good at staying objective and constructive.

It's an EA game, even if it's bad it'll get 8s and 9s. These are opinion pieces, but I do think there is such thing as objectivity when it comes to video game reviews. DA2 was not an 82, though that was the score on Metacritic.

I think the best thing to do is find a few off-the-charts game reviewers that aren't big companies that are paid off, and judge off them.

That being said, hella excited for this game, hope it does well if it's genuinely good.

Joe says what the general community says, but does it with his 'funny' personality. It works for him and his fans I guess

I remember many internet personalities defending the ending as the mature thing to do and mocking the fans as entitled spoiled children who cannot appreciate dramatism or symbolism. For example penny arcade and hulk the film critic.

His reviews are what the general gamer populace is saying because he's a regular gamer. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Even his skits usually present some insight into the game. The skit in the middle of his DA2 review where a guy pretending to be Anders randomly takes his shirt off and starts making passes at Joe is hilarious. And pretty darn true to the game, unfortunately.

a lot of SJWs called him out for 'homophobia' after that segment

Well then, they're idiots.

It has nothing to do with homophobia, more like Anders in game pretty much just makes passes at Hawke out of nowhere, then gets a bit upset when you're like, "Not interested."

I thought it was funny and people calling it homophobic are looking to get upset about something...just MHO, of course. Didn't even know there was a controversy about it.
