DA: I Critics' Reviews Mega-thread

I hope we'll get good reviews. By "good" I don't necessarily mean high scores, but firm arguments pro and contra which are supported by experiences in the game.
Reviews are useful, but the author should make it his / her mission to provide the reader with information and not just opinion. Although such things can never be fully objective of course.

I think it's more the fact that they're going off on a tangent based on a single reviewer.

We were discussing which reviewers we trust (and/or find hilarious) in the absence of real reviews ATM.

I'm expecting a lot of 8's and 9's with a few edgy minor gaming websites that want to give a lower score for click bait purposes...

I agree, but reviews are good to go back to, after you've played the game and find the reviewer that has preferences in games that align with your own.
I don't look at score but I read the review. People drop or add points for different reasons and the written review is the important factor. Like you commented, find a few reviewers who's taste and ideas match your own and then use them for other "on the fence" game choices.

Gopher is very popular with Skyrim fans (especially for his how-to videos) and will be tackling DA:I. If you want an articulate, mature reviewer I would check him out. His first video is no-spoiler. I don't know if he'll be doing reviews pre-release but soon after it sounds. I also think Lady Insanity is entertaining.
P.S. His first video was no spoiler. This is an extended one...I have yet to see (fixing that now).
Here is his first one, it is more concise and upbeat.

I'll be interested in any review. Not that the reviews will have an effect on me getting the game, but I just like hearing and reading people's opinions.
I hope TotalBiscuit will do an impression video. I usually like his content very much. I'm also hoping for a Jim ****** Sterling Son review.

I watch Lady Insanity for some lore issues and doing things like picking apart the trailers which nobody else does.
But for whatever reason I find her voice very grating after a few minutes. I feel bad for saying that, because it isn't her fault, but there it is. She also strikes me as very much of a fan girl, and I wonder if we can depend on her for an honest review?

I really want to watch Joe's review, I love his reviews even when he reviews game I don't even play
But I don't wanna be spoiled
So may I ask anyone who dared to watch his DA:I review... what score did the game get? Spoiler-free, please

Agreed. While Gopher is able to play many games I cannot (or will not), his approach is refreshing, especially when compared to other ego-centric 'critics' that abound.
FWIW - Gopher was my first sub at Youtube. His Skyrim series are highly recommended, and I also watch him play XCOM on Twitch on Fridays.

He didn't actually review it, just preview it..however his preview was very very positive.

I remember many internet personalities defending the ending as the mature thing to do and insulting the fans as entitled spoiled children who cannot appreciate dramatism or symbolism. For example penny arcade and hulk the film critic.
Yup a lot did, and the reason they took that side was for the same reason people made videos hating on it, for youtube hits.
These reviewers don't have opinions, all they want is views and they'll say anything to get it.
No youtube guy hated on DA2 or ME3 first, they waited, took the points made on the forums and made it their own.
Each and every one of them is a complete joke, a black mark on the video game industry.

Hmm, I guess I will watch it, then

Any predictions?
I expect a metacritic score in the mid 80's. I doubt the reception will be unanimously positive, though.

Don't expect a review anytime soon. I am not even sure Bioware sent him a review copy. Joe said he will be taking his time with the game. Might not see his review up until end of the month or early December.

Professional reviews rarely work for AAA games, imo. They work really well for lesser known games, but for some reason AAA games get horrendously skewed in one direction or the other. My guess is the reviewers are not immune to the marketing hype and rate the game up or down a bunch depending on their own expectations and the disappointment or thrill that comes when the reality of the game is met.

That's why I said she was entertaining. I have no issues with her but she is obviously a huge fan and therefore likely more biased. I don't think this is the case with Gopher who seems to be a hardcore Skyrim fan and generally more factual. (e.g. X happened, you decide what it means). Gopher is also a PC player which is far under-represented on YouTube. He was forced to play with a controller in the longer video, and apparently that wasn't his favorite thing. ![]()

I say low 90s. You'll get the occasional reviewer who will review it negatively just for the simple fact it is a BW/EA game and he's still butthurt about DA2 and ME3.
I forget who the previewer was, but, he was british or Australian, and just kept complaining about how it wasn't more like DA:O. Most of his complaints didn't have any validation whatsoever.

I agree with you. She's probably one of the most thorough DA players on youtube, and knows her stuff when it comes to DA, but, I think she has some type of speech impediment. I still watch her videos though, although sometimes it is hard not to focus on her voice.

No way. It is EA, Bioware, triple A production. And this time at least they are trying. If DA2 got 82(?), if nothing goes wrong I can see DA:I getting 92, at least.
Even thou I loathe the new combat and mechanics, I can see other folks liking it. My subjective score without knowing the story would be 75 (because of the combat). But objectively speaking, yeah at least 92.

PS. Is this game http://www.metacriti...ell-retribution the new "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" of our times ?
Not even one good score, not even one mixed score. It's sitting at 19(xb),16(pc),13(ps3) / 100
And The Angry Joe's review on it
just watch it
