I really apologize for not posting a link, but for some reason the browser on this computer (I'm at a lab) is not playing nicely at all with BioWare's new forum UI. Not sure what the deal is at all. Go to GameSpot to read the article, or better yet, if someone could post it in an early comment, I'd really appreciate it.

To paraphrase, the Video Game Awards, which started several years ago as the Spike VGAs and were then later rebranded VGX, which did... not go well at all last year... are getting a revival in the form of "The Video Game Awards" and it's happening soon. December 5th, to be exact. Geoff Keighley's behind it as always, and the GameSpot article teases some world premiere announcements. EA is among the publishers to be present at the gig.

What say you? Too soon? Remember, ME3 effectively world-premiered itself right on in with the cinematic trailer back in December 2010. It does strike me as a bit early, but hey, maybe it'll happen. BioWare has a history there to be sure. We intrepid forumites have discussed the fact that it if were gonna happen in 2015 it was bound to happen under this roof, even if it's now technically in Las Vegas.

Lots of speculation for everybody.

Well they did say only the other week during the Twitch feed that hopefully "soon" they should have more concrete information for us, that being said, the first week in December might well be a little bit too soon, I'm not sure they'd go so far as a full blown cinematic trailer, but a teaser?...

DA:I will have already been released by December 5th, so that's a green light for anything regarding MENext to happen!

Can't wait, thx for the info OP.

I think if nothing else it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they'll flash some concept art alongside a name reveal with the promise of more to come.

Is there any other major EA project that can be revealed? Not counting new Call of Duty, FIFA etc.

DA:I wouldn't have been out for long though. EA may feel there needs to be cooling off period.

I don't like that thought.

Don't think so.

  • Amy Hennig's Star Wars game can't be that far along
  • Criterion's new racing game looked more like a concept than a game in the E3 clip
  • Battlefront will be revealed early 2015, probably during GDC
  • Mirror's Edge is probably a 2016 game
  • NfS will most likely be revealed at E3

I'm sure several studios are working on unannounced games, but I doubt they can reveal anything yet.

To be fair, ME4 is probably a 2016 game, too.

I'd say it's a 50/50 chance at this point. If they do reveal it on December 7th, then I would be more confident with 2015, since it would fit with a timeline that was planned for ME3.

But even if it slips into 2016, I expect it to be Q1 or Q2 at the latest. At that point, the game will have been in development for 3 and 1/2 years, which would be even more dev time than DAI, and DAI was set back by having to learn and create the new tech. That's why 2015 makes more sense for me, at least for now.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is no new info about the next ME game till after the new year

I believe the next ME game will be released  spring 2016

I will continue to argue against the ME3 timeline as especially relevant to the release of this fourth game, for reasons you're probably familiar with by now. :P

March 2016 at the earliest IMO. November 2016 would not particularly surprise me.

So a four year dev cycle would not surprise you, even though it was stated by the studio director that the game is already more than halfway done, and with the completed technology of frostbite by the Dragon Age team that will save a lot of time as well as extra manpower on the way now that DAI will launch?

I don't follow, unless there was a problem in development or they had to delay it for some important and crucial reason.

Hopefully this will be better than the dumpster fire that was VGX last year.

You should expect longer development cycles. BioWare games aren't remaining the same. They are becoming much larger and much more ambitious. They are requiring more man-power to build these games. Once DAI is shipped, a portion of the Edmonton will help progress the development of MENext. I would be shocked if MENext releases Q4 2015. I'm expecting Q1-2 2016 similar to when Mass Effect 2 was released back in 2010.

With respect to the thread, I just wanted to make one slight adjustment that this isn't the VGAs or VGX. Those programs were funded and supported by Spike, of which hasn't officially announced any shows. "The Game Awards" is purely a Geoff Keighley invention likely due to Spike cutting back support for the VGAs and having less than acceptable results with the failure of a much more cost-effective VGX. I doubt this will be as bombastic or have the high production values of its predecessors, but hopefully the quality of the reveals and the games that are shown remains high.

With respect to MENext, I don't expect to see anything. ME3 was different as a reveal trailer was released at the VGAs. Everybody already knows MENext is in development and has been for quite some time. It's unlikely BioWare will show us gameplay this year, as I'd expect that to happen with E3 2015. EA is likely going to show off more of Battlefield Hardline, maybe some EA Sports, perhaps another teaser for Star Wars Battlefront, and maybe something completely random like Crysis 4. I wouldn't expect anything related to BioWare for a while, with perhaps the exception of a teaser for the new Casey Hudson IP.

Didn't they say the new lead writer was only brought in a year ago? At what point do they start bringing in VA's btw because if we start hearing news on that front I would think it was time to get excited.

Probably Cerberus Lab, that is one big nuisance.

On topic:

I wouldn't hold my breath - especially since DAI is just making its premiere.

In Jeff's defense, it's looking like MEN will be more ambitious than DAI. I still agree with you though.

Did you mean December 5th?

Other than that, I completely agree.

Could it be 2015? Sure, and getting a teaser next month at an 'awards show' will encourage that prediction.

Could it be 2016? Definitely, and we'd probably only learn much more about the game several months from now.

I don't really expect a Q3 or Q4 2016 launch but hey it could happen. 2017, as I've stated a bunch of times before, would be ridiculous. I don't buy that at all.

So far I'm thinking of a holiday season deal in 2015. And if this is correct, then a teaser at the VGA is not just likely, but is a no-brainer.

Not long from now.

But I'm hesitant to actually believe. Its 2 days before my birthday, so that'd be nice :)
