T minus 16 days until we effectively discover whether or not NME gets a "proper" reveal in the year 2014, basically.

Remember not to think it likely lest you be disappointed, but I can't deny the brewing hope.

We've got two chances for December: The 'Playstation Event' (possibly) and the VGA awards (more likely) can someone clarify, has any ME related stuff been shown here b4?)

Well, the VGA Awards were the world premiere for ME3 in December 2010. That said, this new incarnation is a pretty... well, new incarnation. Beyond maintaining awareness that there's no reason to as me BioWare will do the same thing again (I merely suggest they might) there's also the new format to consider.

EA has a presence there though and the term "world premieres" has been used in the press coverage. So... we shall see if that extends to NME, or if it simply isn't the time.

While I won't be so bold as to deny Sony's event outright, I would be extremely surprised if it happened there. EA's strong marketing partnership with Microsoft is remarkably well-documented and Inquisition's handling has done plenty to reinforce that.

Hmm. I hope Microsoft aren't going to do a 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' with ME4... BTW, does DAI have exclusive content on the Xbox One or something?

It has timed exclusive content; it'll have its first DLC launch on there prior to elsewhere. Similarly, promo material has been synced with Microsoft trademarks and whatnot; trailers often begin with X1 displays and such. It isn't subtle, and it's been that way with past releases too.

Maybe a bit sooner than that, if Bioware start dropping hints over Twitter in the days leading up to it.

Personally, I hope there'll be something, but I'm expecting there to be nothing.

The major difference is we have known since late 2012, early 2013 that the next Mass Effect has been in development. We have received concept art, video footage of the game in action at E3 and Comicon, as well as plenty of details about the protagonist, new features coming, and where this new game will take place. ME3's teaser worked as a world premiere because we hadn't heard or seen anything for ME3 prior to that announcement. I would not expect to see anything about the next Mass Effect until E3 2015 at the earliest (BioWare may do their own reveal beforehand or have the game featured in Game Informer more than likely).

I think it may be time.  Remember, all hands are on deck for this now.  Montreal and Edmonton.  (Well, technically not all, if you wanted to count Austin)

And they haven't given us a time frame yet.   Now would be a perfect time to have a world premiere.  Maybe it'll take away from some of the undeservedly bad press that DA:I is receiving as well.  Of course, I'm no marketer and I'm not sure how well the game is selling.  Just wish that they'd release the patch.

DAI is getting bad press? Reviews have been great, many fans say they love it. I'll admit I haven't left the no spoiler section of the DAI forums, but it certainly hasn't been an ME3 or DA2 type scenario. A few complaints, and that's about all I've seen/heard.

The VGAs?

Are they still a big enough thing to get sufficient audience for such reveals after the last years' performances?

Thinking this might be "just what was needed" to kick their ratings back inline.

The topic is mislabeled. This is not the "Video Game Awards." That was funded by Spike TV, who is not funding this independent venture by Geoff Keighley called "The Game Awards." VGX was Spike TV's way of investing less money into a show that wasn't getting spectacular ratings. Obviously, it was a terrible failure and Spike TV has not indicated they are doing another show this year. This will have less funding and support, although many of the big publishers and even consoles are supporting this independent show.

Mass Effect is the most announced not announced game I've ever seen. We know it's in development for more than a year we've seen concept arts, pictures and videos. Just announce it already and give us the overall setting!

Ideally they would do a teaser announcement with a small but really cool cutscene at this year's VGA show. Followed by s full scale no holds barred reveal at E3 in 2015 with the hype building up from there all the way to the games release in Spring 2016.

If I were running the show that's how it would go down.

I'd say the next Mass Effect trailer at E3 this year was the "announcement." It didn't show a lot, but it did give us a general idea of what the next Mass Effect will b about.

You are painfully optimistic. Considering BioWare said at Comicon this year that the game was "years away from complete" I'll be really shocked if it comes out early 2016. This is BioWare's most ambitious project yet and the game is absolutely going to blow away the original trilogy in terms of scale and content. That kind of density and fidelity takes time. BioWare's lead writer only just joined the team in late 2013.

I won't count anything as an announcement if it doesn't even give a name to the game.

Would be really cool, if we could get something so short after DA:I release.

In any case - 2015 is MENext year, so we will finally know almost everything in matter of about 7-8 months.

This is more likely. BioWare doesn't want to steal away the heat from DAI, which only released less than two weeks ago. Considering DAI was also nominated for GotY at "The Game Awards," BioWare will likely use it as a means of promoting the game even more to increase sales. Mass Effect news would merely just cannibalize their own profits. I will not be surprised if the official "reveal" of the next Mass Effect is in game informer. They get the scope on any major AAA title, and certainly did the same for DA2, DAI, and ME3.

I think that it's mainly the Denuvo DRM that enables EA to profit from DA:I, basicly everyone who wanted the game badly as soon as possible had to buy it, no pirate copies so far.

I guess the same deal will be with MENExt... it will use Denuvo...

DRM is a PC-only concern. Most of the profits for DAI are likely coming from the Xbox 360 and PS3, then the Xbox one and PS4, and finally PC. We are by far the minority when it comes to sales.

not sure the pc sales count the digital ones (only the disc version).

Also that is why i really love cdprojektred: i can play my Witcher games whenever i want.

EA's DRM strategies used to be much worse. I remember with Dead Space 2 that you had a limited amount of copies you could install on your PC before the disc was worthless. At least now, Origin functions the exact same way as Steam and I don't need to be online in order to play the game. I just need to be logged into Origin, which isn't that big of a deal. Yeah, CDPR and GOG's methods are preferred and I can have the game on my computer without needing any 3rd party software, but it's not practical from a business standpoint for many of these companies. CDPR is independent, after all, whereas BioWare is owned by EA, which is a publicly traded company.
