Seriously, I dont get it. He can handle himself.
Why do you people want to baby Cole so much?

I know!! He is not a kid. I think most people just find him terribly adorable because frankly, he is. But finding someone adorable doesn't mean you want to baby them.

I'm not exactly sure, but if I had to guess it would be because Cole acts childlike due to being a spirit and not knowing much about the world he's inhabiting currently. He can certainly take care of himself, but his demeanor probably sets off some maternal feelings and makes some people want to help or teach him. ![]()

I think part of it is nobody is sure how to treat him. A lot of us don't even understand what he is.

Well, he might be able to handle himself in a fight, but what about when it comes to an actual conversation? If he's as much of a kid as people make him out to be, it'd be nice to act like an older sibling kind of thing with him.
Me personally, in Origins, I was the new person in the party who others helped out and educated me, but with Inquisition, you're someone with power, so it's like the tables have flipped slightly.
but that's just me.

Speaking from the perspective of my FemMageQunari...
My Quizzie is powerful. She's the only one who can close the rifts, and she's very strong in her own right. The fact that she has an entire organization at her fingertips doesn't hurt. So pretty much everyone who follows her feels like she can do something for them. They all want something from her. Cole is the only exception to that rule. He is a Fade Spirit Thingy, and cares only about helping people. Unlike everyone else out there begging to be rescued, Cole is the only one who wants to help the Inquisitor because the Inquisitor is the one that needs help the most. One person taking on the whole world could use a selfless hand. And that's why my Inquistior will love Cole and want to protect him.

Reading Asunder left me with the feeling that Cole is very creepy. I know I'll be very wary of him when I play then game.......I'll see how he acts in game before making my final judgement of him.

1st lets move this conversation into Cole thread. Thats really only proper place to have it.
2nd he is 2 side coin, and there are something remained from boy-mage cole... some memories, something... the spirit is not alone in its shell and the place was not empty completely... now spirit gone through certain transformations and is selfless. The combination of poor booy and adorable martyr selfless helper is what makes people to cuddle about Cole, but yes, he is not baby, and many realize it... he is odd spirit, which still forming itself in its new "self" and conditions of being material rogue within Inquisition.
If we hear his conversations with Blackwall and Solas he is defenitely is not baby. He saw alot, and see and understand things even Inquisitor (player) can not. What he does not understand is some material/human aspects of certain things which are alien for him. Who knows where game takes him. May be he even will be able to love someone.
I am really anxious to reveal his story.
Also his hat and daggers... kudos to BW for design.

Reading Asunder left me with a lot of sympathy for him, and no matter what people want to argue in regards to what he is (human, spirit, demon) the fact that he acts like a naive pre-teen 90% of the time and bursts into melancholy and tears when left alone...it leaves an empathetic person with the desire to show him attention and care. /shrug A lot of people on various forums seem to oversimplify and deride this as estrogen-fueled infantilism, but wtf-ever to them. I don't want to breast-feed the man and change his clothes (well, maybe the hat), I just want to help him find the validation he needs to not be afraid of vanishing...in the form of moral support, hugs, and encouragement towards the light-side.

Gamers often have no life, so they're looking for something they lack in reality. It could be anything - a friend, waifu, sex doll, child.
So they can be all "omg, you're too precious for this world let mama take care of you".

He's got a child-like mentality. Ergo, people want to treat him like a child.

Because he's adorable, young (At least in terms of his time being on this mortal plane) and while he can handle himself in a fight seems to have a massive amount of inexperience in day to day life and social stuff and a lot of other things adults and even teens have mastered? Dude needs time to learn stuff that he's missed out on and the inexperience gives him a sort of childlike quality. I mean he's not exactly had a normal learning experience since he has the memories of a dead kid, and then his own time after that was not spent doing things that are conducive to learning. I'm sure with enough time he'll learn and grow and probably drop the inexperienced and childlike quality but right now he's still giving it off.

I really like Cole, but I have no desire to baby him.
From what I can tell, he will need patience and information, but he also deserves respect....he doesn't seem to have a child's mind so much as the amount of information a child would have...ie, he is naive and confused, but he's capable of understanding things...so I don't want to condescend to him.
EDIT: I also have a small child, so the idea of "babying" anyone else is not appealing to me, tbh.
My maternal feelings are already occupied.
