Well if you use Amazon as an indication it's like #2 on PS4, #6 on X1 and #2 on PC just for the Deluxe Edition so apparently a lot of people are spending that extra $10. I personally paid off my DE awhile ago.

Maybe I am just being cheap.  But I am used to waiting to buy games until they come down in price.  With DA2, it came out in March, and I bought in December.  By then it has already dropped $30.  So, my math for DAI works as follows:  I will pay $70 for a game I could get for $30, just so that I can play it sooner.  Now there is no guarantee that it will drop in price like that (Skyrim seemed to hold its price a pretty long time).  Still that's hard for me to get my head around.   Believe it or not, the last game I remember buying at "full price" was BG2 (and I played the sh*t out of it; it's still my favourite game ever) but even now I can't fork over $25 for the EE of that game.

Also, I'd hate to buy the extras and then have them give that away for free in a few months (like they did with the Black Emporium and the Mabari)

I take your point about TBE and the mabari, but keep in mind that they still haven't given away (or even made available separately) all of the extras from the Collector's Edition of DA:O or the Signature Edition of DAII. If they follow the example of TBE and the mabari, they might make part of the deluxe edition goodies available either free or paid, but I wouldn't expect everything. (For the record, I hope they do, but past precedent says don't count on it.)

I am paying for the extras, though the only item of real interest to me is the Soundtrack; easily worth the cash by itself.

It's worth it for the soundtrack alone. I see everything else as a bonus.

Frequently people will agonize over small price differences in small purchases because the percentage difference in value/dollar is large, and put in less effort to reduce what are small percentage benefits but more significant in absolute terms($100 price difference in a $30,000 vehicle for example). Not a good way to think about purchases.

What it comes down to is what's right for you, in the context of your life.

If your total entertainment budget is at least a couple hundred a month(hopefully after having built an emergency fund and made a regular contribution to a retirement fund) and its a game you expect to be playing a lot, seems like a good buy.

If your total entertainment budget is such that you can only potentially purchase 2-3 AAA  titles a year(and that requires you to skip out on movies with friends or something), then you'd probably want to only pick up things well after their original release.

Generally, I'd advise not to sweat the small stuff.

I'm not bothering with the deluxe stuff this time. All those freaking items in DAII ended up being a nuisance. Every time I started a new game (admittedly not very often) I first had to spend time deciding which item should go to who and the party ended up being stupidly overpowered until well into mid-game.

I paid the extra $10 for the Deluxe Edition. It gives a fair amount of stuff and seemed pretty fair in my opinion, I don't regret it.

So, I will end up playing this game.  As a PC player, I am going back and forth on buying this game or waiting until the price comes down.

And while I am leaning it to buying right now (in the age of the Internet it would be nice to go through a game where I couldn't find answers on a Wiki) I don't know if I want to pay extra for a unicorn, a halla and a throne. Don't get me wrong, I liked the mabari in DA2 but could I have played the game without it?

How many people  are "ponying up" for the deluxe edition?

Count me in (and paid off). If it was just a unicorn or throne I would pass, but throw in the soundtrack with everything else....I believe it's worth it.

But really, it's only $10 and you get a soundtrack, all the dlc, the weapons, the mounts so it's not that big of a deal. It's like like they're charging $99 for it.

Do you mean like a Season's Pass? Or are you referring to the cosmetic stuff like the horse or the throne?

There is no Season Pass. This is the DLC included with the deluxe edition:

  • Flames of the Inquisition arsenal (weapons pack), armor, and armored mount
  • Dragon skull throne
  • Bog Unicorn
  • Red Hart
  • Soundtrack
  • MP chests

For that Bog Unicorn alone, it was so worth :P The Flames of the Inquisition will probably be cool, too.

I bought the deluxe edition, myself. It's not really that expensive - only 70 bucks. That's just ten extra dollars from the regular price. I wouldn't throw down triple digits for the inquisitor edition or anything (I'm just not a collector of stuffz), but yeah I'll pay ten extra dollars for an undead horse with a sword through its skull. If they had made it a pet xenomorph, I would have paid 20 extra bucks.

$10 extra for the soundtrack alone is worth it to me, as I'm REALLY fond of what I've heard so far. The Unicorn is just a bonus, lol.

Are we going to start the game with the unicorn? Before we even get the quest for a mount?

Multiplayer chests, presumably with items (weapons, armor, gold?). I'm afraid I can't elaborate, since I don't play MP at all.

My guess is that you'll have to get some sort of stables first and that the unicorn and hart will appear as soon as you do. But I could be wrong!

I get where you're coming from. I very rarely buy games at full release price, and instead usually wait for price reductions. However, games like DA:I are the exception for me. I'm personally very hyped about the game and want to play it so I'm not going to wait for a price drop. To me, paying the extra money is worth being able to play it while its brand new.

You just have to decide if DA:I is that type of game for you, or if you wouldn't mind waiting awhile to play it.
