1.) I have yet to see a video, admittedly i might of missed it, where once a mission is selected on the war table, then the cards appear to select your companions, that selecting none is an option.

2.) Brand new game i know but any guesses as to which class might be able to accomplish a solo run?

Rogue.

Stealth will be mandatory for a solo challenge I think.

They've said it's possible. It will be extremely hard, but possible.

I'd say warrior because of guard

Either warrior because of guard or archer rogue because of stealth and high damage. I imagine mages would get slaughtered quite quickly however.

It says "Are you sure you want to leave without a full party?" Or words to that effect, so you can do it.

Never saw the appeal of soloing in a party based game myself. Is it an epeen thing? No offence intended just interested in what makes a soloer tick.

Rogue is the safest bet. It's the best solo class for both previous games. But it will depend on encounter design and combat rules. Perhaps for example a KE can simulate stealth if aggro and line of sight work like they did in DA2.

If you mean to do the entire questline solo, you will almost certainly need to be a rogue. According to the devs, you need one to open a locked door during a significant quest

Spoiler

Given the number of times that one's appeared in the gameplay videos, I have a feeling it's a main quest rather than a side one.

Agreed. Having the ability to block and generate guard, plus the heavy armor and larger health bar makes it more likely that the class is more durable solo than say, a barrier mage.

I don't think you can purely solo the whole thing, they've said that you don't have to take party members, this is true.  However, there are parts where we get guest party members who fight with us, and you have to use them. So from a pure point of view, it's not possible.

thanks for the reply's gang, really glad that it will be possible. To answer KoorahUK question i just enjoy the challenge. I don't mind talking to folks in the keep, romances, etc. but soloing in combat seems really rewarding to me in other party based games in the past. I don't mind the occasional you must have this NPC in your party to unlock this quest (like the Planar Sphere in Baldur's Gate 2) i just want to be able to boot them as soon as possible.

Soloed DA:O it was a lot of fun. Still did romances back at camp.

Also the XP boost soloing is really beneficial.

I actually think there was the option to open that door with a key. I mean, there didn't seem to be a party-change spot in the area so if you had an all warrior/mage party you'd be kinda screwed.

I think it will be possible to solo, but you'll miss out on a lot of loot due to the class-specific actions.

Also, like, why would you solo a party-based RPG anyway? Oh well, I guess these things are not for me to understand.

Well, I would get utterly slaughtered trying to solo anything with any class, but that's just me. Kudos to those who can do it.

I can go back and check the videos on that quest, but I'm taking this information from an earlier post on a different thread. There was a quest in DAII that you couldn't do without a rogue to open a locked door (no key available), so I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility here.

I actually wouldn't mind bringing companions along for exploration and conversation, just wish i had a "Stay out of Combat" or "I'll Handle This" command for them to obey ;)

Are you going to do it on nightmare?

I played DA:O game where i been with only one companion on nightmare and it was challenging and fun, but doable.

I am in doubt i will play solo one on nightmare, but i will try me +1 companion or me + only 2 companions nightmare FF games for sure. I dont want to miss character action, and i like to have some company feel. Plus the thing being forced into rogue does not sounds good.

We will see. What i am sure i will be making run like that for sure.

That's cool. You are a braver soul than I. :)

Personally I do love all the party interaction - dialogue and combat - so playing solo just isn't for me. Kudos for having the skills to pull it off though.

They haven't shown it because it's not a playstyle they balance around.  We're luck they're even supporting.  I'm going to love my solo nightmare run.  :P

I think we're supposed to use the party.

I would guess rogue would be the most soloable, although a mage's crowd control powers might help.

I would think this would have to be on Casual, though.

Why would you want to solo? Groups are so much better.

For everything.

What? Arcane Warrior was by far the best solo class/spec in Origins and in 2 there's no real contender because it's quite possible with any class (if optimized, of course) because of runes - though it's way more difficult with a Mage than, for instance, an Archer or two-handed Warrior.

I Wish Knight Enchanter could use Runes with his summoned swords, but i think using Runes with Life Steal will help quite a bit with Soloing :)

Locked doors and chests aren't the only things you need a specific class for in the world. There are things that you can "energize" (sorta like using the force) and you need a mage to do so, like fixing a broken bridge by pulling it back up again (as shown in The Hinterlands/Redcliffe demo)

I don't expect those things to be necessary for the main questline, however I do recommend a rogue just in case and also because they're awesome at soloing.

Arcane Warrior was the best class in Origins, yes, but a Dex-built rogue could solo just as easily on nightmare.  And any mage that abused Gravity Ring or was a Spirit Healer was the easiest solo class in 2, but any rogue with cunning as the primary stat would survive just about every fight with as much ease.

In each game, the first ten levels were the hardest in regards to soloing for each class...  I expect Inquisition to play similarly.  The early game will be the hardest to get through soloing, but a well built rogue or mage would be the "easiest" classes.

I have every intention of trying to do a solo playthrough, but it certainly won't be the first few attempts.  I'll need a few games to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each class, as well as how the combat system has changed, to pick a class I can play adequately enough to do it.

A Spirit Healer solo run? I'd like to see any actual proof of that being possible. I'm talking Solo-Nightmare, of course.
