Do you avoid shopping where you live because of tax?

Ever since I bought a PS4 here in Palmer, Alaska I avoid shopping here or in Wasilla (a neighboring town). Mostly because all the tax really starts to add up. I had to pay $15 on the PS4 I recently bought, $12 for my PS3, $3 for every game I buy, etc. That's just for gaming...
Thankfully I'm in the city of Anchorage three or four times a week. So now I just get things there before returning to home.

I guess so, there's tax in Palmer and Wasilla. Not Chugiak, Eagle River, or Anchorage. No clue about Houston or Willow. These are all places in the same area.

Don't think this is political... Not intending it to be.

I buy my games off of Ebay when I can, but if they are a new release and I just can't wait I go to the store and get them on launch day. I do that because it is cheaper, so I guess that you could say sales tax does figure into it, the sales tax is $4 for video games where I live, so it costs me $64 something for a brand new game.

In Canada the cities can't set taxes as far as I know, just provinces and the federal government's 5% across the country.
Given that my province doesn't have a provincial sales tax, ours is the lowest in the country.

A few percentage of taxes doesn't kill anyone.

I'm in the US. So certainly things like electronics and video games, I tend to buy them from online retailers that don't have warehouses in my state (in this case, my NJ residencial address) to avoid getting charged sales tax.
Especially when I'm building a computer that's worth thousands of dollars. I've saved a lot of money by doing this.

In my home state, the taxes on cigarettes raise the price about 40%.
I'm no sympathizer for the tobacco industry, but that's ridiculous.

If I go across state lines suddenly the gas price drops at least 30 cents.

Cities set tax rates?
Yes.
I grew up in Southern California near Orange County. Every city there set their own sales tax and some were as high as 9.5%.

Any kind of tax above 25% is ridiculous.

^Then you would love Denmark. The tax rate is approximately 50% on income and there is approximately 25% sales taxes.
There's also a 180% tax rate on car registration. So when you buy a car it is almost like paying for two.

Doesn't Denmark have college be pretty much free?
High taxes on polluting cars and health-adverse cigarettes while investing hugely in education is actually the easiest winning strategy in Democracy 3.

Wait, do you actually have a single income tax rate for everybody in the country? Because if so, that's pretty terrible. Although I suppose it isn't as bad as in the US, where I understand some millionaires pay a lower percentage of income tax than many middle-class do.^Then you would love Denmark. The tax rate is approximately 50% on income and there is approximately 25% sales taxes.
