Thread title. I'm looking for a not too addicting FPS game that has fun gameplay, but that I can play semi-casually.

I feel obligated to say the Half Life series. Personally, the series has one of the best, if not the best storylines ever. HL1 might be old by now, but HL2 has quite some nice graphics as well as some interesting things never seen before.

The Halo mega-franchise is good, but either go with halo 1 or Halo 3: ODST, as the series as a whole has unfortunately been on a bit of a downhill slide, but those two were both pretty good

Bioshock is nice if you're a graphics>gameplay player, but having said that, Bioshock IS fun to play, despite (or aided by) the spectactular looks.

F.E.A.R. 1 & 2 are great if jump shocks are up your alley. I personally couldn't stand them, but watching my friend play the games, it certainly looked 'fun'.

Not really an FPS, but Portal is a wonderful time-waster, with great dialogue to boot.

As mentioned before, the Half-Life series are without a doubt some of the best FPS out there.

If all else fails, just whip out the old DOOM classic and shoot up some red spritey-looking things that are supposed to ressemble fireballs or something (?) :-D

Have fun!

Hey PicklePepperPiper, I didn't know you are also a "kill them with the big bad gun" style.

Hmm, I haven't tried Bioshock or the ancestors, if I may call them like that, the system shock games. The ancestor games, from what I've heard, are RPG-like with one of the best stories around (and also being slightly horror no?).

Apart from this, another one I remembered is Deus Ex. Very nice, especially with all those powers you get later. My favorite tactic was upgrading a simple pistol to death, to make it become sniper-semi-machinegun weapon. If that failed, activated regeneration and went with that small super deadly crystal or laser-like-lightsabre got from Hong Kong (IIRC).

Also, it had quite a cool story. But from what I've heard, even that one is to be considered an RPG

Another two games I played and quite enjoyed for the new style they brought were the No one lives forever games. I mean, there is nothing better than having some make-up grenades. And apart from that, if I remember, you even have dialogue options, have to jump and avoid the typical laser protection rooms and many other things. I myself, didn't have the pleasure to buy Contract J.A.C.K, which is supposed to complete in a trilogy of games. Only ever played the demo, but didn't find it that attracting, since you are more of a brutal soldier rather than the clever spy (Cate Archer if I remember, yes?)

Well, as a girl, FPS isn't really my style, but I had an ex who was addicted to them, and I enjoyed playing the games with Benny Hill Sax Theme blasting from my speakers, whilst I was madly screaming and running around, whacking zombies with wrenches, my ex just shaking his head sadly.

On topic: The Uncharted series are nice, if you like the cinematic, linear gameplay (which I personally couldn't stand myself. Elder Scrolls sandbox style all the way for me). Uncharted plays out like a movie, with scripted events going off all around you, so the game is completely immersive, but really only playable for the first time. I suppose that's what you're looking for?

Oh, I so understand this. I myself sometimes enrage and go all in battlecries and start shooting insanely. For example, in Call of Duty, I was like :
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRGH DIE DIE DIE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
GRENADEEE! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!
Good times... You know... the John Rambo ones :P

I've only ever tried CoD once... I was called a variety of names, one of which was 'camper'. How was I supposed to know you weren't supposed to hide in a corner on the edge of the map, watching the carnage? It was on my brother's account. Needless to say, he lost all respectability on that server.

Jedi Academy had a semi-FPS component. That was about the only game which I enjoyed in that genre (just for the lightsabers... pretty colours:O)

No way. The story and writing are the prime attractions to the game! Although the art is quite stylistic compared to other games, and that does help it.

Anyways I would recommend BioShock(first and foremost), the Half-life series, Left 4 Dead games, and Portal if you don't mind no actual shooting.

... Marry me?
On an entirely (and the exact same) note, I've done the same ting, playing fast speed action games while listening to Queens "Don't Stop Me Now".
"Don't stop me now, cause I'm having a good time, having a good time" :D

Incidently also, the best song in the world to listen to while driving.

It's true that Bioshock does have an excellent story and the gameplay is phenomenal too. I admit, it's not entirely accurate to say the graphics are greater than all that, but the graphics ARE stunning.

Best driving music? Orif's O Fortuna makes any boring drive incredibly exciting. The worst? ABBA. Especially in a car with a group of five-year olds who have just seen the Mamma Mia movie.

Left 4 Dead one and two are both good games to play when you only want to devote a short amount of time. The campaigns can be completed in 45-60 minutes or you can just do single chapters of the campaign and leave at anytime.

I'd recommend FEAR, Half Life/CS/TF, BioShock and Call of Duty. (People get too ****pissed about MW2, but it's still an enjoyable game if you have an ossum connection.) Or you could just play WaW. Blowing Nahtzee's and Imps up into a dozen pieces makes it worth it.

FEAR was good, half life was good. I really like one of the Far Cry ones I played, then I got another one that just sucked donkey balls. I think the one I liked was called Far cry predator or something along those lines.

I am surprised noone has mentioned Crysis yet, In my opinion it is the best FPS game currently on the market. Of course if you are asking the question of where to find more FPS games odds are you would have already played Crysis otherwise you wouldnt be asking the question, however if you havent why the hell havent you? You dont have to answer that as a damn good reason for not playing Crysis is the fact that you need a high end computer to run it and I know the majority of gamers mostly play on consoles.

I did have to shed a tear however when I heard that Crysis 2 was comming to consoles, that along with IW screwing the PC out of its dedicated servers for MW2 (I had to jump ship and get my copy of MW2 on Xbox 360) I fear that it is drawing near to the end of days of PC gaming when the four horsemen of the PC gaming Apocalypse (Virus, n00b, Lag and Disconnect) ride forth to punish the wicked, whether they be lords of Blizzard (the only company so far that hasnt forsaken PC gaming) or dregs from the firey depths of Microsoft.

And while it isnt a pure FPS I would suggest you pick up Deus Ex (the original not IW) as it is one of the best games of all time in my opinion.

I'd recommend Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

Its a fairly unique and interesting FPS coupled with some pretty heavy RPG influences (The dialogue system borrows pretty heavily from Bioware's games).

It is PC only though, so if you're looking for a console game it wouldn't be an option.
